Can I make an abandoned house in France rentable in 7 days? Day 1 - Arrival!

The house in the Dordogne has been empty for 8 years. I spent a weekend here in May seeing how bad it was, and now I have 7 days to make it liveable finish restoring it and then finally renting it out! Is it feasable? Probably not, but here goes nothing!

Sometimes a coffee goes a long way, especially here in Italy. Don't feel obliged in any way though, best of all would be to come to Tuscany and have one here with me!

It is so so beautiful in the region of Alps I would definetely live there ! On my way to Finland from Greece I took the route that flies through Dalmatian coast and over Alps and boy it was beautiful ! I definetely like your little french house . Good luck !

On a side note, if you're both registered residents in Innsbruck it might be wise to get the Volvo onto Austrian plates. The official stance is driving a car on foreign plates if you spend more than six months in the country is equal to driving an uninsured and unregistered car. I think the process is fairly easy these days, thanks to the EU. Sort out insurance, the insurance agent will register the car for you, get an Austrian MOT and pay a bunch of fees (a few hundred Euros in total I think). You might also want to check the rules regarding licences. Back in the mid-90s you needed to apply for an Austrian one pretty quickly if you set up permanent residence here, otherwise you needed to get a full re-test. The EU did change some things about that too but still worth checking.

Great work. At the lumberyard in the beginning, the lift driver needs to be banned from all types of machinery. That includes children’s toys. I wanted to add to watch the toilet seals. After sitting dry for so long they dry out and fail. It’d be best to go ahead and reset the toilets with new seals.

European toilets don't use wax rings, they've got rubber or silicone rings that should last pretty much forever.

First impressions : you’ve set yourself a very tight time frame, add this on to the hard physical work. Better would be 1 month to get your property rentable - time for planning, buying, fixing & decorating and TIME OUT. You’d have time then for everything & everybody and perhaps a lot less stress for yourself. But that said, I do wish you & your family all success and good wishes for the future.

Hi, I like your optimism and can do attitude. We went to Vichy last year as it's only a couple of hours from us. We found it a bit disappointing, I would recommend Clermont ferrand as nice spot to stop off at on your return. Looking forward to watching your progress with the house

Top tip, BEFORE going running, take a month to get you diet right, high protein low carbs, eat natural fats, from meat, butter, bacon, eggs, berries, cream Sounds odd, but that will turn your body into ketosis and burn unwanted fat quicker than running ever will Combine this with a 5k walk each day or 10,000 steps and you will shed the pounds Never go without eating something you like though I lost 2 stone doing this, and even i was sceptical, exercise is secondary to diet, if that’s not right no amount of fitness work will work
