The Byxbee Parkrun course is deceptively slow. It is a double out and back and has 3 hairpin turns plus four pretty sharp corners. It's in a beautiful area of the Baylands shoreline. A municipal airport is nearby and small plans are often taking off. The course is all loose gravel, which is slow and chews up supershoes. If the timing doesn't work out for Byxbee, the Dolphin South End Runners puts on races with a $10 entry fee ($5 for members) most weekends in SF. This weekend, they have a 10k trail race from the Beach to the Golden Gate Bridge overlook in the Presidio. That course is massively hilly and slow. It's not uncommon for their courses to have a ton of elevation gain. They have a 5k road race with 500 feet of elevation gain.

Great running, particularly with the head wind/ I almost wonder if you would have been 5-10 seconds slower on the first mile if that would have led to breaking 16. Maybe not as you crushed the last mile and change. Great improvement. Maybe some longer distance to build even better cardio along with your great track workouts, and I think the number for you later this year might be the low 14 minute range?

Quite interesting content. Love this break from “serious running”. Your fans/viewers are the beneficiaries of your time off. Didn't parkrun stop showing run times of other people on the website? how do you know what the record is. I used to feel really motivated by looking at other peoples times. Proud of the young people for being so fit and talented. If phone and internet goes down good to know who to give a pen note to. If the chinese invade lol...stupid joke. Also I don't know who would be Turned off buy it. Everyone knows they are slower on the day than people over taking them or milling around the finish line ready to go home when u are still coming in 100meters or so from finish line. Congrats on 255!!
@sarahhudson400610 күн бұрын
@@nikitaw1982 You can see everyone's times, they just removed the records. But the records were nonsense anyway - courses change all the time.

Great interesting in the uk the records have been removed which is massively controversial and pissed the keen parkrunners off. Some have 500.its flipping huge parkrun
@wardfreeman753312 күн бұрын
They removed records here too. It takes a lot of digging to figure out course records. And it is nearly impossible to figure the age group or age graded lists. I haven't been to a PR since that stupid (IMO) decision was made.

How do you know? didn't they stop showing times of other people on the website? i hope they don't make you disappear so the slower people don't get disheartened by others being faster. beginners should see who the slowest are for a track, if they can do it on a sunday they know they can join in no problem. I don't think the website even shows that now. Karens in charge if i'm not wrong.

To be fair he is talking about his standards (He has a low 14 minute 5k for his pr so for him sub 18 is out of shape) but yeah in general sub 18 for a 5k is not slow by any means. I have a 19:21 5k time as a sopohmore in high school and sub 18 feels pretty far away.

Its pointless runnjng fast in these events as they dont bother celebrating quick times anymore. Find it funny how they want to stop it from being called a race but you kept referefing to race every time! Its far from a run the race director mention. As a lot of people still treat it as a race.
