Note: one of my suspects, Alexander, is a teenager. I believe he’s portrayed as a child in adaptations of the book, but in the novel he’s older so that’s why I had him as a suspect ❤️

"Miss Marple has buggered off somewhere" and "Miss Marple needs to start carrying her weight, this is her mystery" is what you will think in every Marple novel. Poirot is much more hands-on in his stories, which is ironic since Christie hated Poirot.

Also, I love how all conclusions Marple makes are from all the petty gossip she participated in all her life. That and the many maids she had at her service and all their ~horrendous habits.

This was my absolute favorite of your vlogs so far. I loved it! As a Christy reader I always think it’s interesting to reread one of her books. Her ability to slip in clues without the reader noticing is quite remarkable. I do love 4:50 from Paddington and all the clues are there but I absolutely agree that it needed more Marple. Miss Marple is always such a joy. If you want another Marple vlog, stay at a seaside hotel and read The Body in the Library. It’s a first rate mystery with Marple throughout.

This was so fun! I think this was a particularly difficult mystery to guess the culprit; I think the reason no one knew that Dr Qumiper's wife is missing, is because he was married to her as a young man, and had separated from her, so as far as anyone in the village knew, he was unmarried. My favorite Agatha Christie is A Murder is Announced and it's one where you are given the clues and can actually solve the crime!

loved this vlog idea! So fun. Have to say that Miss Marple is often just a side character in her books and not the acting protagonist. She is very often just the person to give some hinds nobody understands and fucks off. Love her though. there are some storys were she investigates herself. And in the Magareth Rutherwood Movies of Miss Marple (the old black and white ones) she is more like a hands on investigating old lady. :)

Knowing the murderer before starting (I saw the adaptation), you would be able to guess who did it. The clues are there, but not obvious unless you know... You really have to pay attention! Granted I don't usually guess her endings, but I have been listening to them and I don't think that is the way to solve her mysteries. I definitely think I miss some things. I would suggest reading Dead Man's Folly (a Poirot). That one I had watched the adaptation, but couldn't remember and I paid attention. Still didn't get it. It was a good reveal. The Miss Marple ones, she really just does a lot of outward observing, even more than Poirot. You really have to pay attention to the likenesses she gives people when she meets them. Those are very telling.

This vlog, from concept to execution, is utter brilliance. Loved the music building up to the reveal and the look of bafflement on your face! I am not a fan of Miss Marple's reveals. She solves the crime with little involvement and with information that hasn't been shared with the reader! Would make a great TV show but not the most fun book to read. Can't wait for your next adventure Gav!

Quimper was one of my suspects but I had no idea about his estranged wife. I thought maybe he killed to protect the family/Emma because thought the woman was a blackmailer. My other 2 suspects were Old Mr Crotchety in cahoots with his son in law for reasons that are too long to explain, but ya. Miss Marple being MIA for 90 percent and Chrisite having that audacity to have her be the one to solve, I mean, come on. I gave this book 2.5 stars. Great vlog!

I read this book this month just so I could enjoy your video and I don't regret it. Had the best time watching this, so glad I caught the premiere of it too. I really like the concept and I would pick up a few more mysteries to solve them "together", even if it isn't filmed on location ;)

I actually found a library copy of the book and read it before the video so I could watch all the spoilers. I was surprised at how differently you worked on the clues and red herrings than I did. My thoughts on who was mostly likely to be the murderer weren't even close to yours. I did have the actual murderer in my list of possibilities, but I can't say I definitively knew who "done it". I think it was a little unfair (or perhaps I misread the bit) about the doctor's wife. I want to get a copy back and check for sure. For the record, I've read other Miss Marple books and she's usually around more. I haven't read them in order but I think she's still recuperating in this story, from being sick in a previous book.

In general, the Hercule Poirot mysteries are better clued than the Marple's. There are exceptions in both directions, though. An example of a particularly well clued Miss Marple book is "A Murder is Announced". It's IMO also the best Miss Marple novel and worth a read.
