Most reasonable people would see grades from ten years ago as a poor indicator of your performance as a student now. It's not how you start, it's how you finish.

That’s what I hope, but the screens! A lot of medschools have so many good applicants that it isn’t worth there time to look in the dogpile for a potential strong applicant. Unless you’ve done something truly astounding it seems most schools won’t bother with you.

@@MY-hc5fb Yeah, I had a med school straight up tell me they don't care what your story is - they have enough candidates who never faltered that they don't "need" to sort for other applicants.

@@MY-hc5fb Yeah, I did have a few who said they look at the whole picture (most of those said I needed a minimum of 3.0, which is understandable).

Great advice. I know how that person feels. I have gone back to a post baccalaureate program and received B's in my science courses. Im moving forward and so should YOU. Don't give up. You got this.

Hey Dr. G, Do you know any students that were accepted to an MD/DO program with that low of a GPA? and if not could they be a future candidate for your other shows like Application Renovation or Mission Accepted? And thank you so much for putting in a tremendous amount of time and effort to help other students. It really makes such a difference for upcoming premeds to better understand the process. Keep up the good work!

Dr. Gray, do you know which schools screen that way? I’ve only heard of 2 medical schools with this policy, and a few DO schools. I have been getting A,s over my last 35 credits. I am planning on a diy postbac for ~30 credits but my final gpa wil still be a 2.8 after all that. It will take 50-60 credits more for the 3.0. :(. Is performing well in an Smp with linkage my only real shot to get into medical school within a reasonable time frame?

I know Des Moines in Iowa and Lincoln in Tennessee have 2.75 for minimal GPA requirements.

This student can spend the next 5 years trying to repair their gpa. Why not take the MCAT this summer and consider a new DO/Caribbean medical school?

I don't understand. How 13As/ 16 can make GPA come out as 1.9 and 2.28. Even in a decade ago, you got all Fs in the last semester as you said.

it sounds like a lot of their now As are classes that they previously failed, idk if aamcas lets you replace grades so the old gpa sticks

Does anyone want a Dr. who had a low GPA taking care of them? There is a reason med schools require high stats.
