My mcat has been cancelled three times and have already lost hope. It is very depressing to go through those cancellations after preparing for months!! AAMC NEED to cancel or waive for students during this pandemic and snow storm. Wish they were kind enough to students.

AAMC doesn't have much say it as far as I know. I think its up to the individual schools to determine whether if they will require an MCAT or not

Can you please do a video on NY state schools; I hate how inflated the average GPA are. I am concerned that I won’t get in even if I have a 3.7 -3.7 to any MD schools in NYC or even NY STATE.

There is too much emphasis in the premed world looking at individual schools and grade inflation or deflation. Be a good student. You'll be okay.

I got in with a 2.1 gpa. Made tons of C’s and D’Souza and a few F’s here and there. side story: met a PHD that was a TA at the school I went to. She told me the school was pretty much racist. They told her to “weed” students out and unfortunately I was one of the ones that they intended to weed out. She apologized to me for what I went through but I always said we talk about racism but we don’t talk about it when it comes to university. That professor literally wouldn’t pass me and didn’t want to. (This is never addressed openly) I had to do good on the MCAT and a post bacc.
@lilrabbitcuz3 жыл бұрын
@Abus didn’t say it was a freshman course. And I did complain but nothing got done or will ever get done because the professors wife is the dean of the program and they are tenured. Again, I did not think anything of it. I randomly saw a white TA/PHD student when out in the wild and she told me what went on behind the scenes. She actually said she LEFT the program because of what they were asking her to do and she found it sick. That’s what you are deflecting. So funny how people like to act like discrimination isn’t a real thing because it will never affect them. Let me give you a bit of insight. When I took physics 1. The professor had Parkinson’s disease. Why was he still lecturing idk. In class this guy would talk about Newton being gay. He wouldn’t talk about the work at all. Some students rubbed his ego and those were the students that received an A. In the lab, my partners were this white guy and girl. The girl texted me one day showing that she matched with the TA in tinder. She asked me should she message him and I was like idk. How about we all did the same work but she got a higher grade than us UNTIL he unmatch her due to her not responding. After that that’s when we actually started making a higher grade than her. While the same girl and I were eating lunch together she said out loud oh crap! I forgot to text the biology 2 TA back. He gave me an A in the class if I promise to go out on a date with him. THIS is the reality of what goes on in college. We don’t talk about. We don’t talk about the cheating and stuff like this. We just pretend most people work hard for their grades. All ad coms see is the GPA and the A. They don’t question how the person got those grades. I heard the argument that a person won’t do good on the standardized test but only a few people actually kill those exams. And how can you say that when a person can study for the MCAT for 6 months to learn what they need. The system is FLAWED
@lilrabbitcuz3 жыл бұрын
@Abus thank you and exactly. Think about it. There is no way to explain the truth to the admissions committee. We are supposed to say stuff like I realized the error of my wrongs. Trust me, it messed me up Bc I had to retake a lot of classes. The TA/PHD candidate actually apologized to me. And was like yeah they could have just passed you but they didn’t. While in undergrad I questioned if I was smart enough all the time and was super depressed but I never gave up Bc of my will and resolve to become a doctor. My goal was almost fucked Bc of discrimination. Most Post baccalaureate programs wouldn’t even take me. I just want it to get out there that there are professors/TA’s like this.

How's it going in med school so far?
@AlphaNumeric123 Жыл бұрын
How did they outright fail you? In science there’s usually a much clear division from correct and incorrect answers. If you’re completely on the correct side of that division, how could they fail you, or you not objectively challenge it? There’s also numerous stories about people getting passed because they’re black or URM, even teachers getting fired bc they refuse to make the class easier to more URMs pass. It’s all anecdotal so I don’t know why you deny that side of it. Because the truth hurts maybe?

this might be a dumb question but dr. gray says that for each experience we should be showing who we are. if it is medical, should we assume that we don’t need to explain our position even if it’s brief? does it mean we talk about our emotions and relationship with the job and how we struggled adapting to a new environment? I’m so confused on how to distinguish a meaningful experience story from a description where it isn’t harming my app. I want my meaningful experience to stand out in a different way than the extracurricular descriptions-is there a specific way we can do that?
@coreygarcia6223 жыл бұрын
If there is any doubt with what the experience is, or if it's actually clinical or not (if you marked it clinical), then put a small blurb that can give a reader the idea of what you do. Then tell an impactful story that affected you as a person. With the story, the reader will be able to further get an idea of what you were doing at the experience. Hope this helped!

You have be smart to get into U.S. medical schools! Try off shore medical schools, you can be average and get in! If you have your residence in the U.S. military, you can go anywhere in the world and instantly get employment even if there is no opening afterwards. The training and experience you get in the military is cutting edge and lots of experiences in war time. Pretty intense. You can handle anything going back in to a hospital setting and be chief surgeon if you want!
@tarunchandrasekar12202 жыл бұрын
Off shore (international?) medical schools are a bad option because their residency match rates with US programs are way lower. She can be a good candidate for DO schools instead.

I honestly think she has minimal chance to get in any MD schools with a 3.19 GPA(not sure why she thinks she can get in UCSF, Stanford, Kaiser). If she does well in MCAT, she may have a shot at DOs. But it's still going to be somewhat of a long shot.
@melissacarlson46363 жыл бұрын
oh really, you think? I chose those schools because they say there is no minimum MCAT score. My thought process was, I have 9 years of healthcare experience, 4 as a healthcare provider. I didn't know my MCAT when I applied. My GPA was the result of 6 years from the age of 16-23 attending a community college and never applying myself. after that, you can see I got nearly straight A's for the next 8 years of schooling. So you don't think that's good enough for DO?
@dithianessulfur12663 жыл бұрын
I applied with a 2.83 GPA (ORM) and I'm a rising M3 at a top 40 US MD school. And no, I'm not an Olympic medalist or a first author on a pub in Nature.
@CaitiCat3 жыл бұрын
Completely false. I had a decent gpa but total garbage (like major trash) MCAT and I got into 9 DO schools before I withdrew my application. I had virtually no shadowing and no clinical experience either. DO schools look at you in a much more holistic manner than MD schools do. I think she could easily get in DO just based on her NP experience and dramatic GPA improvement
