I have an older (about 6 years old) StormBreak 2 that I use when I go hiking with my dog. It gives me plenty of room for me, my dog and my gear to all be inside out of the weather. I love the doors on both sides and spacious vestibule to leave my boots, trekking poles. Its even large enough to cook in to get out of the rain if necessary. I have camped and hiked in all kinds of weather and never had an issue with this tent.

You know I been following Luke for 4 years now. And it blows my mind how much I have learned from just his channel. That tent is definitely a 4th season tent my goodness all that fabric in there. Yea, it's got mesh, but my goodness, did you see how thick that mesh is. I bet that thing doesn't breathe very well at all. 🤯

I can say after having owned the Stormbreak 2 for just over a year, that even with the rain shell off, airflow can definitely be an issue. Its not a dealbreaker for me by any means, but it certainly didn't help my comfort a few weeks ago in 30C weather with high humidity. Could barely feel the light breeze through the mesh.

I think in a previous review he or someone else pointed out that the Stormbreak doesn't have vents either. I don't believe I saw them in the vid. Not that those necessarily are great at climate control, but they can help regarding condensation.

I love my StormBreak 2 and I’ve camped with it in some pretty severe storms with very heavy rains and forecasted 50+ mph wind gusts. And it held up to it. I was terrified, lol, but it held up and kept me dry. It has like 14 tie-down points that let you really anchor this thing down, far more than most other tents. Ventilation is an issue. But keep the fly tight and raised as high as possible without exposing the mesh, site selection is also important. If you remove the fly completely then you’ll lose the chimney effect as well as a lot of tie-down points, so I don’t recommend that. It’s never gonna be as breezy as other tents but it’s always been tolerable for me. I should add that I’ve only ever used it solo. Naturally 2 people are going to generate more body heat and if it’s humid then that’s going to add to the misery.

I bought a used NF Stormbreak 2 about 5 years ago with a few pinholes in the floor from the previous owner's cat making muffins. I sealed the holes with some Flexseal (yeah the stuff works!) applied drop by drop with a toothpick and amazingly, it has held up ever since - even with some seriously heavy rains lasting for a few hours at a time here in the islands. I use a Tyvek ground cover as the NF footprint is just too pricey for the minimal times I use the tent each year. I would love buy the new version but honestly, I mostly truck and hammock camp now as I get older, much more comfortable than being on the ground!

I have been using the stormbreak 2 as my sole backpacking tent since 2018ish. It has never leaked or let me down and it has been stable in some insane and scary storms with high winds. It also did great beach camping with the relentless winds that can exist there as well. I used it as recently as a month ago and it is still waterproof. I did finally buy a new backpacking tent this year for the weight savings. This is one of my best camping gear purchases and I found it on sale at around $100 at the time.

I'm getting rid of my REI Flash Air 2P, Kelty Salida 2P and GeerTop 1P trekking pole-supported tent to change to a two-tent set-up with one for car camping and one for backpacking. I got my bulletproof car camping tent based heavily on a suggestion from Luke (who I also give crap to on occasion) in the Teton Mountain Ultra 2P. It really got tested in the Rockies a few weeks ago and was a champ. It weighs 7#. So now it's down to the backpacking tent. The Stormbreak 2 is okay, but ventilation seems likely an issue as well as it not having vents up top to help with condensation. Allowances are often made, but this tent also is going to weigh around 5.5#. My old Kelty has taffeta about 2/3 up the walls (the main reason I'm moving on from it) and only weighs just north of 4#. I may go with the Featherstone 2P, recommended by Eric Hanson's channel, when the price is right. BUT ... as I write this, TNF Stormbreak 2 isn't showing up anywhere online that I usually look except Dick''s. Not REI, Amazon, Backcountry or even TNF own website (it's listed as out of stock if you directly look it up in a Google search, but doesn't appear if you run a search on TNF website). It's always possible they're discontinuing the line while pushing the Trail Lite series that costs considerably more, but that would take them out of the market entirely for entry level tents. Maybe they've decided that there is too much competition at the SB price/weight point?

I bought one earlier this year new and paid around $100, (2 p) which I thought was a steal for North Face. I've never used it yet, but did set it up in the back yard as I do with all new tents, to thoroughly check them out and I was impressed with this tent. Some have mentioned how very little mesh it has. For me, doing all of my camping during the fall and winter months, that is not a problem. But then again, I'll use or have used, any tent during winter months! I prefer the colder weather. If I'm going to camp in warm/humid weather, might as well make a trip to the Amazon!

Gear is only tested if you are actually using the equipment. Pitching a tent, then standing off to the side, isn't testing . Fill it with gear and you. Watch what happens. NF went down in quality over the last few years. It caters to urban posers and cultural enriching looters. A real outdoor tent is gonna run in the minimum 300+ range. Don't put your trust into a product that can easily fail under real conditions. I live the life. Ice rain at 32+ degrees is not a sport. This, at best, is a on par with a blue tarp over a 2 season tent.

@Luke : What is the largest Hot Tent that you have tested and would recommend buying to the general public? Thank you for listening to the little guy's like me, who are full of questions. We do appreciate the honest opinions, both pro and con because sometimes we're forced into making the choice of the lesser of two evils, like being forced into the two party system ! Lol ! Anyways, back to my regularly scheduled appointment on your channel. Peace.
