I really hope they bring in some form of automatic flood gate control in this update. Like you can set it so certain floodgates open or close during a wet season, and others open or close during a drought or badtide. This way your population can automatically open or close the spillways for each season without you having to micro-manage everything.

No need to micro manage! Build a reliable power source. Store a massive lake of water. Have a mechanical water pump pumping into your main river 24:7, and a 2nd pump 1 block higher pumping from the river back into your lake! Meaning if the water level rises too high it automatically is pumps back into storage. That’s the simple explanation… but try it out and enjoy the happy beavers

There is a mod that adds some stuff to micro manage, I'm not sure what the name was but it adds flow meters and the possibility to link them to the flood gates and than you can "connect" those flow meters to anything that's related to water which adds functions like pause when wet/dry/level/static/moving and much more. I'll look the name of it up later

@@passedyouby I get what you're saying and that would totally work. However the mechanical water pump is a late game building as it needs both metal and treated planks to build, so that means you need a different solution for the early and mid game probably involving lots of beavers pumping and dumping. Also I've not checked yet but does the mechanical pump ONLY pump water, or does it pump bad water too? Because if it does then you'll still need to micro manage them else it'll poison your lake if you leave it on during a bad tide.

@@ElectrocutedAir Mechanical pumps will pump the fluid straight as is. So yeah, it will pump water and badwater in and out at the same proportions.

Just so you know water flow can be concentrated, but you need specific layouts to do so. Skye Storms did a tutorial on it.

Just note the amount or nodes that delivers water/waste to the map, equal amount in equal amount out. 4 nods/squares in, you need 4 out. Same as thinking about flow rates in rl.

Interesting! My last colony was built on this map (this map released in the last update). I allways wondered what use this spillway could be for. They must've had the badwater in mind.

You should divert it further upstream so that it doesn’t get near your colony, then maybe have a backup levy in case it overflows

Just so you know. If you leave fully grown trees they will grow baby trees next to them. Meaning you can grow trees without a forester. Helps a little in early game.

This is an awesome update, I love how the new mechanic completely changes the way we have to deal with water. Maybe regular floods will be next ?

'Bad water' has a different flow, as in there's more of it (and maybe faster?) compared to regular water so you need to manage your dams and water controls while considering that there will be 'more' coming down. This video illustrates this well.

You should have a tile with a hole and a water dump. You ensure that your crops will stay irrigated with a small water consumption, even during droughts or, maybe, during contaminated seasons.

best thing that I never ever saw a single youtuber use, it's insane that no one uses it, you use like a beaver and a water a day, if you make the math it's like 2 food and 3 water a day to keep a 10 radius of irrigated land anywhere safe for good

I use that in an even better way, i dig a trench under the paths in my fields with a single water dump at the end and several 2-deep holes along the trench, that way you get a single beaver to fill dozens of water-holes at the same time.

I think I found out how to deal with the badwater problem, since u just need normal water to clean it out then use the dump (? I forgor its name but the thing that pushes out water instead of sucking it up) and it should clean it aslong as more badwater isnt pouring in and is being diverted

On top of the general negative feedback for the badtide (its an interesting mechanic but it had BETTER be optional, and current water behavior makes badtide way too problematic, as water flows completely wrong sometimes), I feel that their time would have been better spent on something like weather- something like a chance of flash flood storms in the wet season and chance of wildfire during droughts Edit: better yet, make badwater only come from runoff and flooding of mines, ruins, and/or some industrial buildings

I've been playing the new update, and it looks like the only safe approach is to divert the river away from Beavertown, then use water pumps set to only pump clean water to bring the water into the original river channel, so only the clean water flows past your crops.

Hey, short question, a while ago you said you are considering revisiting old games. And i think they are billions got over 20k votes. So as someone who uses the they are billions playlist almost daily to fall asleep too, have you considered maybe revisiting it? I would really love it

Kibz, to prevent flooding the water needs to be able to flow out as quickly as it flows in. As soon as you can you should widen that badwater channel you built so that it's the same width as the channel on top of the hill where the water comes from.

I hope this nuclear waste content is optional. I know that this is something hat i will sometimes not want to deal with in my game and ant it turned off.

I presume you can work your way towards not really having to deal with it anymore, with dams and alternate routes for flow, etc. Basically making it into a drought if you handle it properly.

[UPDATE] I Checked out the beta, seems like worst case you can just set the badtide event chance to 0% and just not deal with it in custom settings. The option is in there, but I have not tested that this works, plus it doesn't seem to remove the bad water sources either.

@@scoorp8 Custom difficulty removes badtides. If you want to remove the badwater source geysers, you can go to the map editor and remove it. The devs should have kept the original clean maps. So, players can choose "Terrace original" or "Terrace badwater", instead of making us edit the maps before playing.

So reviewing the badtide event sequence, the levee you forgot about did play a part, but your biggest issue was no flood zone in case the tide was higher volume than the normal water. So was kinda surprised you didn't remake it all the way from the dam to the cliffface.

I think you need about 3 tiles wide to drain off the bad water. With only one tile wide, it’s not enough to drain the bad water.

at this point a good strategy would be to build farms away from the main river using levees and water dumps to irrigate. the pumps can get clean water from badwater, just not as fast

I'm surprised Kibitz still has yet to learn about using TNT to dig a trench (with platforms over) and a deep pit in the middle of farm land, so that even in drought, there's a pit of water which can keep crops alive

If you only select every other tree in the beginning to be harvested. the stumps next to full trees will regrow without needing a forester

I think what we are going to need is make our farms with water dumps away from the rivers. until we can use levees to isolate the shores from the waste and get irrigation canals guarded with flood gates.

If this video didn’t pop up in my recommend then 1. I wouldn’t have found this great video and channel 2. I would have opened timberborn today after a few weeks, seeing there was an update, starting up my game and panicking over seeing a new season suddenly killing my 2 month old city 😭

even tho i ahvnt palyed this game yet, i think i can see an easy way to deal with the corruption when it comes from the sources, Build a dam you can lower or raise along its path before it comes and make a dam to send it out of the map, tho it requires you to get explosives fast, but long term it will be worth it to make your beavers super safe

I guess with a badtide season, you must stockpile a lot of food and water to weather it. You will also need to figure out a way to divert the badwater away from your reservoirs to protect your farmlands. This new season will require us to change how we normally build to prepare for these badtides.

This is what I was thinking as well; if he rushed stairs, levees, platforms and floodgates he could've made a quick reservoir right at the water source to divert the badwater off the map immediately rather than risk contaminating his own water supply.

If you can divert it off the map close to the source and before your main reservoir you can essentially just treat it as a drought

I wonder if you could build a path to divert the bad sip using flood gates. Have one side to run the sippy drink and then the other for the bad sips? This way water stored in the dams doesn’t get contaminated

If you have learned anything it should be, overflow for the dams you need to have a wide path for the water to divert through. Otherwise overflow will spill over

It flooded because 2 gates wasn't enough for amount coming in. But you probably known that and did it on purpose to showcase new features :D

The levies seem to be bugged though I would not think ground contamination should be able to get through them the way it did Unless you need to build them down all the way to the bottom or the river ?

Your trench entrances was too small. you were trying to divert a 3 wide river through a 2 wide channel. Your levies only delayed the flooding.

a good video to watch while playing timberborn U5 experimental i forgot did he mention in the video that this update 5 is still experimental? 1 minute into watching it and i got a badtide oh btw kibitz, water and badwater cant go to tiles diagonally and also, dynamite isnt made from paper (for now), instead 1 dynamite is made from 5 badwater, and you can make better dynamite's if you add 1 extract to it

I suggest mods! Water Beaver Overhaul is a bit of a pain to install but makes the gameplay notably different.

If you play the experimental branch you can too experience this hellish tide and lose a colony in the blink of an eye , make sure you Give them feed back . to me i think this event should hit mid game and not right off the start ..4hrs of play not knowing what to expect killed a colony instantly , the need for metal at the beginning really ? Kibitz is on the right map (map name ???? ) to tame it quickly but other maps this looks like a insanity check ! casual players beware or make sure you set custom rules to make sure event never occurs !
