A small note for anyone picking up the game, start as brazil, you get automatic waste stone to Rare trade resources which will fund you even without colonists, and allows you to completely terraform mars without people (you can use this income to research on earth) their nation also allows without mods making mars tourism profitable.

Volumetric flasks have rounded sides and a long neck, so that they can be swirled or filled to a marked line with precision. What you have here is an Erlenmeyer, which is made for titrations (to prevent splashing). 🙂

Its going to bug me for eternity if I don't nitpick, so here it is: that's an Erlenmeyer flask, not a volumetric flask. Volumetric flasks are basically teardrop shaped with long necks, Erlenmeyer flasks have flat bottoms.

My head cannon for 1)why terraforming is so quick, 2)why superpowers made missions that are barely more resourceful than random companies and 3)why colonists aren't the best of the best is that _all other landing sites you haven't chosen, are also used by other missions._ So that's like 300-500 sites(can't recall how many grids there are) and superpowers have to split between them. Which means there are thousands of rockets and almost a million people working on it daily crashing more ice asteroids, nuking ice caps and releasing modified life forms 24/7... plus the game time obviously runs much faster with how colonists die of old age. So yeah, with such a scale maybe it's possible in century instead of 500-5000 years.

I remember when this game came out in 2018, i said "cool, but unrealistic. how are u ever gonna have automated drones build a colony? how are they gonna know how to grab all objects and traverse unpredictable terrain, pre-program everything?" And now..... Literally walking robots with dynamic AI able to learn by themselves. Holy cow we have come far.

I hate to be like one of those people, but that is more of a conical flask as a volumetric typically has a longer neck and has rounded sides with a gradient line for making volumetric solutions. It is possible, though. You just have to go HARD into science and rapid expansion. And even then 100% terraforming won't happen for a long while - vegetation is ridiculously slow and can't really be rushed like heat, atmosphere and water.

You can go completetly without powerlines, but need only exactly one pipe hex to connect water / oxygen buildings.

Solar and wind power would both be unviable on mars. 1. Mars is far away from the sun meaning that it only gets about 30% of the solar power. 2. Solar power is often blocked on mars for days by dust storms. 3. Despite the frequent dust storms mars actually has very little to offer in terms of wind power, the atmosphere is very thin, only 1% of earth's.
