I am addicted to your videos. I love what you do for these old cameras. IMO it is more fun and creative using antiquated cameras vs our smart phone. Smart phones go obsolete whereas these cameras in theory can last forever. I prefer to make memories with older cameras. The hp camera I bought from you on eBay will be going on my Alaska trip this August.

What I like about these videos is they cover so many different cameras that if I run across one somewhere, it might help me to determine whether to get it or not. For instance I'd avoid any cameras using the xD memory cards because they're not readily available. Great work and fun videos to watch.

Good stuff! The background music makes it feel like I'm watching a found footage documentary about someone who died doing what they love, and Werner Herzog is about to interrupt with a narration about finding the sublime.
@pricklypearcamera Жыл бұрын
Haha! Brilliant stuff. I would gladly take Mr. Herzog narrating as he did in Grizzly Man. I lived in Montana when the movie was released, and was pretty close to a grizzly travel corridor, and it just brought home the fact that man feels deeply insecure if he is not on top of the chain. Thank you again

I've seen quite some of your unboxing videos the last few days, and there is one thing I'm scratching my head about: How do you generate profit on cameras sold for 40 USD or less? You sell the cameras with batteries, a loader, cable and free shipping, what in my estimation should add up to around 10 USD. You buy the boxes and I guess on average you pay around 10 USD for each working camera - that now sums up to 20 USD. Then you have to invest time and effort for testing, cleaning, picture taking and editing, listing, packaging and labeling - at least 20 minutes per camera I guess. With a moderate 30 USD per hour, that would make another 10 USD per camera, we are now at 30 USD. I'd calculate around 5 USD for material (boxes, labels, cleaning material, etc) and your infrastructure/utility/professional services costs per camera sold, totaling the costs to 35 USD per camera. Now you need to add around 20% for fees and taxes to that for a camera actually sold, what would put the break even on each camera to around 42 USD, when you include you basic work compensation, 32 USD, when you don't expect payment for your work time. Did I overlook something? Many of the cameras I've seen you assess are at 40 USD and less, it would not make much sense to list them on Ebay. Do you sell those as bulk, or do you simply just shoulder the losses? I'm asking, because I do something similar with vintage analog cameras, and I just don't bother with cameras which I can't sell at 50 USD above purchasing price, and since they are analog and I invest more time in cleaning and testing them, that just barely puts me into the profit range.
@pricklypearcamera11 ай бұрын
Very fair point! These cameras just come along for the ride mostly! My ASP is around $90, so I definitely don't do a ton sub $50
@Dahrenhorst11 ай бұрын
@@pricklypearcamera Ok, that clears is up. I've got the impression from those unboxing videos, that the majority of your cameras sold are 50 USD or less, and couldn't imagine how you would be able to pay your bills from that.

Another fun video. Two questions that I'm hoping you might be able to answer: 1) Is there anything that a user can do about a noisy zoom on an older digicam? 2) Any advice on where to find inexpensive small SD cards (i.e., 1-2GB)? Thanks.
@pricklypearcamera Жыл бұрын
Thanks! In the US, I tend to buy large lots of 128MB-8GB cards on eBay, were I can get the cost down to $2-4 per card depending upon size. If you are just needing a few, the price normally goes up to $6-9 for a 1-4gb size card. As for noise with a zoom lens in a digicam, I haven't found anything that reliably works across the board. In many cases (like older canon powershot cameras)- they were noisy new out of the box.

The appraised value is one thing, but how does it compare to the actual sales?
@pricklypearcamera9 ай бұрын
Quite close, as I've sold tens of thousands of used cameras, I generally will list them and sell them for right around what I appraised them for. In some cases it may be a little more or a little less, depending upon when I am actually able to list them.

What is the best way to charge misc digital camera batteries? Do I need dozens of chargers?
@pricklypearcamera8 ай бұрын
There are some universal chargers that will charge dozens of different batteries, but some batteries have different connection requirements and generally will require a specific type of charger. I've got over a hundred different chargers here to charger a variety of batteries.
@jesseFNjames8 ай бұрын
@@pricklypearcamera I did end up getting a universal charger, so far it has worked for about 3/4 of the batteries needed. The remainder that don't fit I'm using speaker wire to make the connection. So far it's working. Thanks for the reply.
