I saw this video circulating on Twitter, where the narrator describes how India would be able to counter China's influence given that China's main weakness is the Malacca Strait. It is reported by the narrator that 70% of Chinese oil imports flow through this narrow passage between Malaysia and Indonesia.
For a long time, experts claim the strait can easily be controlled by the Indian Navy and thus prevent China from getting the oil that it needs.

TaiwanIsACountry - the reality is that China has sought to bully all its neighbors, and has thus created enemies on all sides. This only increases China's isolation -- which is very much to Xi's liking, since his own political need for power takes priority over the interests of the Chinese people.

In China, there is a famous national think tank member, also an expert of the China-US relation, once said, India, in Chinese perspective, is more or less a nation with a heart of a princess, hidden in a body of a maid, ambitious without strength, talk too much but do so little, can bully no one but weak little countries like Sikkim around it.

China has whispered about stopping delivery of products to the USA. The sound of an economy going down the drain could drown out all conversation? Respect for the Nations of the Planet now appear to be something that faces discussion from all the People? The UN has failed to stop the Colonial Efforts of the G-7 to make Asia their private Pickle Barrel. how can India know which tanker is going to China? if I am a tanker operator i will just run a Saudi-Singapore route, and transfer oil to another tanker in Singapore to carry the oil to China. what is India going to do? sink every tanker? it doesn't even make sense, the reality is despite the NATO blockade on Russia, Russian tanker is still sailing all over the world, you can't stop it. beside, you can entirely avoid the Nicobar Islands by just sail via the Sunda Strait. lastly, any attempt to attack the oil route will affect the Saudi more than China, that would literally force Saudi to side with China and even offer Chinese navy the use of their port to protect the oil. the Indian navy just can't beat the Chinese navy it is a non-issue.

India has more than 20 million people working in the Middle East. If India cuts off the China trade, it will affect all ME economies which trade so much with China. And who is going to need foreign workers if their economy is damaged and they have no money to pay workers? Millions of Indians will go home jobless. And most Muslim countries have strained relations with India. If India screws their economies, they will all redouble support for Pakistan over Kashmir. The blowback to India won't be light.

China has worked with Russia on Siberia one and two lines. These can transfer both LNG and Fossil Fuels. Directly to China without any ships. But also China is the 3rd largest processor of oil. Meaning turning crued oil into gasoline, diesel, and kerosene. Also China is also the monopoly producer of plastics. China also has their own oil wells, I think at least 3 if not more. The Chinese push for independence or sovereignty across the board. Show forward thinking. It is brilliant how they planned for the future. China lacks energy sources, so China plans for both energy production and energy conservation. Absolutely brilliant strategy.

I wish India had more scholars and thinkers like Mr. Pravin Sawhney and Mr. Raja Mohan. They are the hope for better India-China relations. But I have to be straight forward and honest. Modi’s visit to Moscow and his meeting with Putin is a sign that Russia is winning the war in Ukraine; otherwise, Modi would not dare to appear associated with Putin under imminent pressure from the U.S. I really don’t understand why politicians in the West like to talk about war with China. China brings hope, peace, prosperity, construcción, human dignity to the world, while the U.S. stokes conflicts, wars, regime changes, destructions and fears. India also likes to talk about how bad China is, as if it can be very useful for the U.S. One Indian woman so-called international relations expert said in one interview on an Indian television talk show that Russia should know that China may not always be Russia’s friend or partner, it could one day be a big threat to Russia, but India will always be. It reminds me of what Joe Biden told Putin in their 2020 meeting in Europe, that Russia should be aware of potential Chinese trouble along their over 5000 miles shared border. Now we know who is the real threat and who is a friend in need to Russia’s existence. India has never won anything in its fights against China. Now, Modi goes to Mosco to kiss Putin’s ass, as if India were essentially relevant in the geopolitical entanglement among the world’s superpowers. But the world knows India is nothing but a useless idiot, an opportunistic prostitute. India could be a great partner with Russia, with the U.S. and with China. That would be beneficial and advantageous that no other country would enjoy; however, India is willingly and voluntarily being used as a vassal state in the geopolitical contention between the U.S. and China. In the end, no one would trust India to be their reliable friend or partner.

"Can India block China's oil?" The answer is an irrevocable, "NO - it is NOT possible" China gets oil not only from the Middle East but through Russia as well and the last time I looked, Russia is located above China and far removed from India way down the south. An oil pipeline is being established to run from Russian oilfields to China and short of India blowing up that overland pipeline and blocking the sea routes (which are in INTERNATIONAL waters, not the Indian Ocean), it is just impossible without invoking an all-out war. Besides that, India trades with Russia as well and crossing into Russian territory to blow up the overland pipeline is tantamount to an invasion of Russian land and the same thing goes if India tried doing that in Chinse soil. It is massively illogical.

Imports of Middle East hydrocarbons as a share of China's total Middle East imports ranged from 73.0 percent in 2020 to 83.8 in 2022. Combined with imports in the chemicals industry, which includes petrochemicals, the share ranged from 88.5 percent (2020) to 92.4 percent (2022). You really need to do your research. I mean come on. A 10 year old could google this. Shame on you for not doing your research. Russia now accounts for 19% of China's oil imports. Shutting oil from the Middle East would cause a complete collapse of the Chinese economy and mass starvation within less than 9 months. DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!!!!!

These interrelationships of trade will only become more complex as time goes by. It should be becoming obvious to all governments that sanctions and disruptions can rebound quickly and unexpectedly on the perpetrators. The recent example of how the USA's chip sanctions against China have caused the USA unexpected problems with their own space program proves this point.

I haven't seen the original tweet but it seems like someone is putting the idea into people's heads to generate mistrust between India & China. India is not burdened, not even inconvenienced in any way, by ships passing through that route; that's why ships to & from almost every country - not just China - have been doing it since time immemorial. However, if they were to block only those ships meant for China as suggested, it is essentially a declaration of war. If the USA were subjected to such a belligerent act, it would promptly send its warships rather than protest about the block's legality in the UN & wait for a resolution. China could & would likely do the same. And you can bet the countries that are sending the oil to China would not be siding with India on this one.

Guess who is India's largest trading partner? China Basically India would be blockading itself. The straight of Malacca is not the only path to get goods from the Middle East and Europe to the South China Sea. There are routes through Indonesia. Plus the Indian navy, neither the US navy are large enough and don't have the logistics to carry out such an operation. Furthermore, people who are saying these things don't know what the heck they are talking about or been to the Straight of Malacca. They have never been to that area. There literally tens of thousands ships going through there. Would the Indian Navy board and inspect all of them? Moreover China is not the only one getting oil and trade through the Straights of Malacca. Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Philippines and many other countries. And guess what all their supply chains are deeply intertwined with China's. Again, would India board all of the oil tankers and ships going through the region. Even if India were able to do so. The only thing the tankers and ships would have to do is falsify their documents. Then there is the Chinese navy. China could literally send its navy and sink the entire Indian navy. Then there are the other trading partners from China in the Middle East. How do you think Saudi Arabia, UAEand Iran would feel it India were to blockade their trade with their largest trading partner. European and North American supermarket shelves wojlr be empty in 1 to 2 weeks. Remember China manufacturers 1/3 of everything in the world. And the other 2/3 of things that are not produced in China have their trade routes highly intertwined with China. It's sounds a lot fun to talk about these

The introduction of Fiat Currency to G-7 Nations now even seems to be limited in the power to provoke Poor Nations into positions that can allow domination. China now deploying next generation of destroyers like 055b which are equiped with state of art technology Such as railguns, laser cannons, microwave cannons, vertical launchers for hypersonic missiles and attack Drone submarines; 076 Drone carrier; 094C nuclear subs equiped with anti-satelite laser cannons; 6 gen stealth figters with detachable Drone parts and more. The Chinese quantum computer simulated wars in South and East China sea over a thousand times, result is that US and allies Had close to 0% chance of winning. No Wonder why US suddenly showed all their nuclear Arsenal suddenly. Maybe in another hundred years That India become Strong enough to stop China.

India has been a bully since its creation in 1947 because it sees itself as the rightful successor to the British Raj and follows in the Raj's footsteps of expansionism. India has land grabbed its neighbors, including China. Here is a timeline of how South Tibet was gobbled up by India to become today's so-called Arunachal Pradesh. 1912: In the first full year of the Republic of China after the fall of the Qing dynasty, the United States National Geographic Magazine dedicated an issue to China. Accompanying the issue is a large and detailed fold-out map of China. The map clearly shows that Dirang Dzong (德讓宗) and Tawang (達旺) are within the boundary of China. 1943: British India likely calculated that dealing with the Lhasa government was easier than with the Republic of China's Nationalist Government in extracting land concessions and proposed to the United States to recognize Tibet's right to exchange diplomatic representatives with other powers. The Americans rejected this proposal: "The Government of the United States has borne in mind the fact that the Chinese Government has long claimed suzerainty over Tibet and that the Chinese constitution lists Tibet among areas constituting the territory of the Republic of China. This Government has at no time raised a question regarding either of those claims." 1944: British India annexed Dirang Dzong (德讓宗), a Tibetan-settled area. Dzong means fort in Tibetan. The Chinese Government (the Nationalist Government of the Republic of China, seated in Kunming at the time because of World War II) protested to the British. So did the Tibetan Lhasa government. 1945: British India intruded into the tribal area of South Tibet. February 1947: The Chinese Nationalist Government lodged a complaint with the Indian mission, which was by then newly established in China, on British India's border intrusions into Chinese territory. August 1947: Britain left South Asia, and India was created as the successor polity to the departed British. India's creation means that a country that historically did not exist suddenly appears on China's doorstep. October 1947: The Tibetan Lhasa Government dispatched a formal request to New Delhi, asking the newly independent Indian Government to withdraw all its predecessors' intrusions into the territory between the McMahon Line and the traditional border beneath the foothills and return a wide swath of territory from Ladakh to Assam, including Sikkim and the Darjeeling district. 1949: When the defeat of the Nationalist Government in China's civil war was imminent, the Republic of China's ambassador in New Delhi reminded the Indian Government that China did not recognize the McMahon Line and held the Simla Convention invalid. October 1949: The CCP (Chinese Communist Party) took control of the mainland, and its civil war rival, the Republic of China, retreated to Taiwan. December 1949: India recognized the People's Republic of China as the legitimate government, effectively cutting off the diplomatic channel the Republic of China used to deliver its protests to India. February 1951: India annexed Tawang (達旺), the birthplace of the Sixth Dalai Lama and home to the four-hundred-year-old Tawang Monastery. The Tibetan authorities in Lhasa protested but were simply informed by the Indian political officer that India was taking over Tawang. The Tibetans protested again, accusing the Indian Government of 'seizing as its own what did not belong to it.' The Tibetans went on to ask New Delhi to withdraw its forces from Tawang immediately. The protests were ignored. The Republic of China (which had already retreated to Taiwan by then and had no diplomatic relation with India) also vehemently denounced India's territorial travesty. Curiously the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) made no noise. October 1951: The PLA (Peoples’ Liberation Army) seized Lhasa, capturing the last remaining part of mainland China (except South Tibet) that was up to that point beyond the Communist control. 1954: India published a new map showing South Tibet as part of India. The map also shows the two neighbors of China, Sikkim and Bhutan, as part of India. Sikkim has been a neighbor of China for many hundreds of years and has enjoyed good relations. In the 18th century, Sikkim was briefly overrun by the Nepalese Gorkhas, and the Sikkim king fled to China seeking help. The then Qianlong emperor dispatched an expedition to Sikkim, expelled the Gorkhas, and restored Sikkim's sovereignty and independence. Sikkim remained unmolested for the rest of its history until it was annexed by India in 1975. Bhutan is another neighbor of China, and their proximity is evident simply by comparing the flags of Bhutan and the Qing dynasty of China. January 1959: The CCP (Chinese Communist Party) commented for the first time on the issue of South Tibet when Zhou Enlai, in a letter to Nehru, offered to concede South Tibet to India. However, India rejected the offer, as it also claims Aksai Chin as part of India. Aksai Chin is located in an area that is very hard to access from the Indian side due to difficult terrain. This is evidenced by the fact that China was able to build a road there over two years without India even noticing, and India only became aware of it when reading an article from China describing the construction project. This clearly indicates that India not only has no control over the area but also lacks visual access to the region. 1960: India started establishing posts (border markers) north of South Tibet (north of the McMahon Line) and proclaiming that it has the right to unilaterally 'improve' the McMahon Line as it sees fit. October 1962: After years of warning, China attacked India's position in South Tibet and recovered Tawang shortly. Three weeks later, in a second wave, China recovered the whole of South Tibet. November 1962: China unilaterally withdrew back to the north of the McMahon line. 1975: India annexed Sikkim. 1987: India made South Tibet a state and renamed it the so-called Arunachal Pradesh. The Republic of China (Taiwan) put out a statement denouncing India. Here is the statement: "In regard to the issue of the Indian government's illegal occupation of our country's territory and the establishment of the so-called 'Arunachal Pradesh,' the foreign ministry of the Republic of China issued the following announcement at midnight: India's illegal occupation of our country's territory has been repeatedly stated by the Government of the Republic of China as something it will not recognize. Recently, the Indian Congress unilaterally passed the establishment of 'Arunachal Pradesh' to the south of the so-called McMahon Line. The Indian Government also made it a state. The Government of the Republic of China once again solemnly proclaims that the Government of India intends to legitimize its illegal occupation of Chinese territory. The Government of the Republic of China regards this as illegal, void, and absolutely not recognized." 2008: With the return of Hong Kong to China, Britain effectively withdrew from its colonial involvement in Asia, and Tibet lost its utility as a potential bargaining chip in British negotiations with China concerning Hong Kong. With no remaining interests in Tibet, Britain could afford to be forthright for once. The British government issued a statement acknowledging China's sovereignty over Tibet (previously recognized as suzerainty, not sovereignty). This statement, endorsed by both the Conservative and Labour parties, is notable for its candor in admitting Britain's past territorial ambitions in Tibet and adopts an almost apologetic tone. Here is an excerpt: "...But our position is unusual for one reason of history that has been imported into the present: the anachronism of our formal position on whether Tibet is part of China, and whether in fact we harbour continued designs to see the break-up of China. We do not. Our ability to get our points across has sometimes been clouded by the position the UK took at the start of the 20th century on the status of Tibet, a position based on the geopolitics of the time. Our recognition of China's "special position" in Tibet developed from the outdated concept of suzerainty. Some have used this to cast doubt on the aims we are pursuing and to claim that we are denying Chinese sovereignty over a large part of its own territory. We have made clear to the Chinese Government, and publicly, that we do not support Tibetan independence. Like every other EU member state, and the United States, we regard Tibet as part of the People's Republic of China. " 2014: A Tibetan Chinese named Nido Tania from Arunachal Pradesh (occupied South Tibet) went to Delhi and was beaten to death because he 'looked Chinese.' 2024: In the 1990s, India subtly probed the People's Republic of China (PRC), leading to the inference that China's position on South Tibet had hardened, despite the PRC officially maintaining ambiguity on the matter. It has become evident that China's earlier offer to cede South Tibet is no longer available, as China has explicitly stated that South Tibet is part of its territory. This stance mirrors the positions of both the Tibetan Lhasa Government and its civil war rival, the Republic of China (Taiwan).

Interesting writeup. The border issue started in the 1914 Simla Conference where the McMahon line was drawn on a map which was signed by the British Empire/British India, Tibetan and Chinese reps. The Chinese govt rejected the new border and never signed the agreement which was only signed by British Empire/British India and Tibet. After 1947, India maintained the new border which China disputed. After 110 years, both India & China should nego and settle the dispute.

@@cheekeongchan6605 Minor correction. The so-called McMahon line was not in the Simla Convention. It was a diplomatic forgery added to it decades later. Two copies of the original treaties survived, and they didn't have the McMahon line. One original copy is kept at Oxford University. Another thing is the Chinese representative never signed the treaty. The Tibetan representative did. He was immediately repudiated by the Lhasa government when he returned back to Lhasa.

This is not misinformation. Looking at the past to predict the future is not a correct way to think. As long as Uncle Sam is around to instigate, anything bad can happen. India would be more than foolish to impose a blockage of the passage of Chinese oil. Chinese superior naval strength would crush the blockage and inflict such heavy casualties on the Indian navy that it would not forget for a very long time. We can bet that Uncle Sam would not side with India to engage in a naval battle against China. There should always be freedom of navigation in the Malacca Straits just as there is in the South China Sea even though Uncle Sam has been harping endlessly on freedom of navigation there.

BY ONLY TELLING HALF THE STORY, YOU HAVE LOST ALL CREDIBILITY. Half your story is correct. Let me remind you of the missing half. You conveniently ignore 2 major sea/land routes as options. China and Iran have a major multi Billion $ deal for oil and infra. The oil can be transported from Iran to China via Afghanistan by train. Similarly, the Pakistan Gawadar Port is a less likely option (since the American led regime change operation ) … this was the option … sea route from gulf to Gawadar Port and then land/train transport to China…… LUCKILY, THE DIRECT RUSSIAN PIPELINES HAVE DIMINISHED THE IMPORTANCE OF THESE OPTIONS. on th flip side, you conveniently avoided and repercussions for India. If they fall into the lap of the American to block oil flow via the Straits, then a severe backlash from both Russia and China is a given. India will be denied the $130 Billion of imports from China, as well as the Himalayan frontier will be opened by China. China can fight on 3 fronts ….NOT INDIA. It can hardly manage to hold one front with China …. You think Pakistan will wait??? Nay …. Pakistan will attack the western borders of India. You think the Middle Eastern countries will sit and watch India block the oil flow from the Straits … NAY …. They will block sale of oil to India and probably also expel the more than a million Indian laborers from their soil. Russia will also NOT SELL oil to India ….. SO ALL IN ALL, A COMPLEX ACTION/REACTION SCENARIO …. LEARN TO PLAY, “”WHAT IF “” scenarios. So learn to look at all possible angles. And then try to look smart.
