I think many YTers forget that the reason so many people watch YT is because it is free to log on. KZbin used to not have so many ads, so it became popular as a way to have something to watch without paying for cable or subscription services. So it comes off as arrogant for KZbinrs to put their otherwise free to the user content behind a pay wall. I like Jessica but I refuse to watch her declutter videos. I don’t want to give views to a video that is all about throwing away products that she hauled 2 videos ago. Especially when a lot of the products she is putting in the trash are the same ones she previously hyped up and made money from people buying via her affiliate links.

A lot of influencers seem a bit dishonest or ignorant of what their job entails. They seem to have a lot of delusions of what the world owes them. Influencers make money by making other people spend theirs because the people think they care about them and have their interests at heart. Or by being plain entertainers. They flourish and get richer the more other people deplete their bank accounts. But people are free to simply not do that. People subconsciously think they are our friends and care. But we at any point are free to realise the truth and stop the fake relationship. If people don't feel entertained or informed they are free to leave as well. They are not owed an audience. Yet people like her behave and speak as if they are our close family and we therefore somehow owe them our time and money... Like we have to watch things we're not interested in and give them financial support. Why? Because they live of an exploitative dishonest system? They are free to leave and take a beautifully mundane job that would require them to work a lot harder to get the same outcome 😂

Part of the allure of lifestyle/beauty creators is that we get to see people enjoy things we might not be able to afford or do. Maybe I can't afford to buy new makeup or do a clothing haul, but it's still nice to see all the new make up that's coming out. When I have extra money, I use these review videos to help me choose a product that works for me. In this economy, I'm happy to see smaller creators go on see success for themselves. Yes, some people are messy, but we can always unfollow them if their content is problematic or makes us feel bad. Obviously, we should call out people doing immoral/unethical things. But i would say a lot of these creators simply get out of touch.

That's uncanny- I unsubbed her a few years ago because she was becoming too out of touch and I disliked her husband for a few reasons, but I coincidentally thought of her before and JUST saw a new IG story of hers that was her smugly saying how much she did that day and what glamorous things she's doing tonight and how they're "in a really, really good place" at the moment. It turned me so off and my thought was "Oh, okay, you didn't evolve, on the contrary." Then I come to YT to look for her and see what she's posting and see this video first. Subbed you for being real! ❤ P.S. Who wants to bet she'll soon make a teary video begging for sympathy about people who've turned away from her and be happy when her die-hard followers say she's wonderful and anyone feeling this way is a hater. 🙄 Kinda very sad. Be happy Jessica, but keep your ego and feet on the ground!

To play devils advocate- although this lifestyle doesn’t resonate with some, Jessica and Tyler are examples of building success from the ground up and working hard for their family. Tyler owns a successful business. Jessica found success on KZbin and it is her JOB. It sustains her family, and she needs to make money for it. She has every right to make money for her time if she’s able. Compared to other influencers, their content seems more genuine. There’s is nothing wrong with working for this type of life. And many people can achieve it. I don’t think they’re 1% ers. They live in Indiana suburbia where the cost of living is relatively low, they graduated college, worked normal jobs, and now own their own successful businesses. This is attainable for MANY people, I don’t think we need to drag others down for sharing their passions and providing for their family.

1st,travelling during Covid - come on? 2nd - last vlogmas,they went on grocery runs ALMOST every single day. Who does that. In this economy? Seems so out of touch. And to this day -- buy,buy,buy. Consumerism overload. And that's not just her. 3rd - she has editors and ONLY 2 videos a week? And this is her MAIN job? Man. That's privilege. Lastly - I don't care much for Tyler but for people who "will listen to advice but sometimes we get too much advice",they sure do give a lot of "advice". Overall,her channel is stuck. She's stuck. Have not listened to her in years but she always pops up randomly. My makeup style changed so what I consumed also changed. I like to watch indie makeup content creators,one of them being Theresa is Dead (NOT for the faint hearted),and she puts a lot of her own personality in it. She joined a trio playing "New Makeup Bingo" but she essentially evolved it to become her own fun game. Theresa's channel has grown and now she and her husband,Alex goes on food tours (she's also a Disney adult but doesn't come off as a Disney snob). Maybe the Brauns can just focus on their Disney podcast and JB can leave the makeup world. Her style is basic anyways. Another one is Taylor Wynn. She has had major shifts but her channel is...so boring.

I like Jessica but do not like her husband anymore. He is a book snob, a food snob, a workout snob, etc. I was definitely a yuppie in my early 20’s so a lot of the content being upscale does not bother me. But Tyler I think takes it too far. Let’s cook pasta in a frying pan because that was how some big cookbook author who was also on the air a lot and is really a snob, I’m sorry I don’t remember his name. But if you think Jessica is too rich and throws it in your face try watching Shea Whitney. Just look at her left hand!! Her husband is a pilot who now works for her, they own their own plane, and they just bought a cabin; about 6000 sq. Beautiful place but…..really? I forget how many acres of land it came with but they wanted more privacy so they bought the adjacent 50 acre parcel as well. But her content is usually good but I do not buy sponsored content, I go directly through whatever retailer she recommends cause I don’t want to line her pockets!

The most successful pivot I have personally seen was Sarah Therese. She's very controversial in her own right, but she also started as a beauty creator. When she got bored with it, she slowly started cutting it out and eventually made a video explaining she wouldn't be doing it anymore. I believe she actually deleted her old videos as well. She gave her audience and herself so much time to pivot, no one cared when she fully made the switch. Her videos were also very concise. Unfortunately Jessica seems like she is scrambling. She needs to decide what kind of creator she wants to be and just do it. I get that youtube is her job and she has to make money. But you can't let the monkeys run the zoo. Make content you are proud of, that you want to make. People can tell when you are just putting a video out to put another video out.

I like Jess, but i dont like anyone on the internet enough to give them a pass for bad behaviors. I cant trust any of them & thats okay with me, bc trust isnt something i need from my entertainment. @@UntangledTreasures Gently, I think it’s nice to comment to help support the algorithm and engage with the community on her channel as a whole, but not if you just need the gratification and confirmation that she appreciated your comment with a like. I definitely don’t want her to spend hours a week commenting to hundreds of people that she’ll never meet when that time could be devoted to her family. Her youngest daughter doesn’t have childcare every day and motherhood is so much more important in those early years than making sure every single one of her commenters feels validated.

As we’ve talked about before, Leah Janae has done a big pivot with her channel. She’s focusing more on Disney, fragrance, and shop with me videos. Still some makeup, but not as much. I feel like it’s been successful, but I personally have unsubscribed from her because I don’t care to see Disney content or constant shopping videos. Another KZbinr that I used to love so much, Lauren Mae Beauty, has also done a major shift. She’s definitely still focusing on makeup, but her content is extremely different. She’s definitely gone more towards luxury. She does have an entirely different channel geared towards fragrance which I actually admire her for because she’s doing something that she loves, but on a different channel for those of us that aren’t there for fragrance. I don’t care for her as much because she used to be super creative, eclectic, and fun and now I feel like she’s just trying to push very expensive products.

I think one of Jessica's biggest hurdles to being relatable is that she never owns up to the massive privileges she has. There are bigger content creators out there who are, or at least appear, more down-to-Earth. She was able to buy a big house before she was 30 (maybe with familial help?), she married a guy who literally cooks, cleans, and rehabs the house she lives in.. he is also always there, to help parent in a big way (how would she fare if she had to wait for him to get home late and she had to get the girls to bed every night)... she has a ton of family support on both sides (huge village) so her and hubby can live a pre-kids lifestyle, whenever they want... plus she can afford anything her heart desires (maybe growing up as 1 of 6 makes this a dream for her)... Bottom line, she's rolling in privilege and is failing on the relatability front.
@hawaboutnow

Exactly this. Able to afford big houses and renovate them consistently (before 30-40) is something else. Then a workspace. I wouldn't say she's rich rich,but definitely more privilege than some. It's so hard to get help when you have kids and she and Tyler seem to live life like they have no kids.

I feel some of Jessica and Tyler's critics are making unfair assumptions and comparisons. The cost of the Disney trips should be significantly less for the Brauns because of their travel agency and Tyler's travel channel. I believe a percentage of their purchases related to creating content could be written off. The purchase of the townhouse does not mean it is paid in full but it is a good investment preferable to paying rent. It was several years before they rented property outside of their home. It is also possible they inherited or were gifted money from the estate of deceased relatives. We also do not know what Jessica and Tyler have for debt. I predict those who elected the future president for a better economy will find they made a big mistake. My mom became a young widow in the 80s and my father did not have a pension or a will. Despite this my mother was able to afford to travel internationally within one year of his passing by going on a trip with a school. Later, one of my older sisters worked for the airlines and my mom was able to travel on some flights for free and many times first class.
