I think we should start with our favorites! It would be too sad to use something we don’t like, while our favorite goes bad! And also let’s be creative and use products in different ways! (Like if there’s a conditionner I don’t like I’ll use it as shaving cream, if there’s a lip balm I don’t like I use it as cuticle oil, meh face products on body etc) also organize spa days with friends, or makeup try ons! (In a sanitary way)

Love this. Just reminds me how a simple thing can get compounded. You buy the next cool makeup item (or anything else) and end up not using the stuff you have, but do that enough times and now your stuff is overflowing - then you start buying containers because you think you have an ‘organization problem’ instead of a ‘junk’ problem.

I always have one rolling , I keep a list on a journal keeping track about what I buy monthly and what I consume 😂 i can’t speak with no one about it ‘cause my friends are not really into makeup like me. So far this year I’ve finished 20 makeup products ( and 9 nail polishes ) and I’m so so so proud about it 😂😂😂 I think I can finish 3/4 more until the end of the year .

We moved a few states away and during packing I looked over my makeup and tossed most of it. I couldn't remember when I used it last. Most of my products had dust on it. Unless you have a ton of money to do a pantry restock, don't get rid of all your foods. Trust me, I went through this one. Was hard before that first paycheck with moving bonus came in.

Same. My makeup collection is very minimal, but I love the concept here, especially with food. Another KZbinr I follow does pantry clean-out videos where she uses up odds and ends in her fridge, freezer and cupboards, sometimes inventing new recipes as she goes. It's fun content.

4:29 this part really spoke to me, lately I’ve been working my way through a lot of stuff that I tend to over-purchase (like skincare and tea) but my lip products tend to be too much for me to keep track of. I’ve been systematically trying to wear a different one everyday just to figure out for myself which are my favorites, what they look/feel like, and if any have gone off. Reminding myself what I have feels like an important step in preventing myself from buying more.

I am doing a very similar thing this year. I've accumulated a lot of lip products over the years. I put all my lip items in one place, and every time I leave the house, I choose one to apply and then put in my purse to take with me. I think this way I will get a better idea of what I actually enjoy wearing and what looks good on me and with my outfits. If I notice that I just don't like something, I throw it away without guilt. It is probably ridden with bacteria anyway, haha!

I kind of do this monthly with our food. It bothers me so much to waste food of any kind. I plan the menu and I do the cooking and my husband and my daughter know that end of the month menus are “clear the pantry” meals. I go over all the goods in the pantry and fridge to check expiration dates and do creative meal planning based on what needs to be eaten. Usually veggies like cauliflower (which my daughter isn’t the most fond of) that are last to be eaten, make it on the menu in creative ways. They never complain and they have actually requested the cauliflower nachos when it’s not pantry clear out lol. This helps to always be aware what you’re buying/eating and what gets tossed. And it gets your creative cooking juices flowing lol. I love this channel so much!❤❤❤

For the vitamin C noisturizer, if you wanna finish it up, use it as a body moisturizer in a couple layers after a shower! There's no rule you have to use face creams only on your face!!! (Unless they have ingeedients that skin below the face cant handle which usually isnt the case.)

Something helpful to remember is that makeup can be used however you want! like the eyebrow pencil could be used as an eyeliner or brown lip liner. whatever works & could use it up faster!

Honestly hats off to you for having the persistence to pan the moisturizer with a smell and texture you hate. I could never, that thing would be in the garbage so quickly. I discovered your channel because YT recommended one of your project pan videos to me. I highly recommend taking pictures of your makeup every once in a while to see the progress. I think that's really satisfying, especially if you don't project pan and therefore don't have a lot of visible progress from month to month, but from one year to the next it might be visible. I have always been very conscious of not buying functional dupes and keeping my collection small but versatile, so I never thought a classic project pans would make sense for me. But I'm doing Deck of Panning this year to gamify my makeup usage. I've also tracked my organic makeup usage for a few years now with a soft goal of 5 uses each per product (I count usage for each pan individually)

I love project panning and using up stuff! I've been doing a similar thing right now because i'm allowing myself to purchase a beauty advent calendar this year (lumene 90€, not a crazy expensive one) from a brand i really like and it mainly has skincare in it. So i wanna use up what i already have and not replace them because i'm getting a bunch of products with the calendar. That way i won't be overwhelmed by stuff and i also will be saving money by using up what i have.

Btw, a sheet mask lover here. Usually the serum is more than enough and you don't need a moisturizer on top of that. There's also a lot of serum in those packets usually that i get 2-3 more days by of taking the serum out with a brush and using up every last bit like that. But i get if you don't wanna do that!! Just what i do :)

I go through my whole collection around once a month and see what I feel inspired to wear, and do a pretty good job passing along things that don’t work for me. I think I’m about to be done with 5 lipsticks that I actually enjoyed using and wasn’t trying to pan! I get really overwhelmed when I see too many things, so having a capsule collection of 3-4 base products, 5-6 cheek options, and a theme to follow for eyes and lips that’s more prone to change helps me narrow down what looks I want to do. The rest I store in a dark drawer so it’s more protected, and if I really want to have a particular thing I know where it is 😂

Oh things I have found to help use things that are not quite the right shade- Foundation- I have a range since I can be a variety of shades through the year, so I have favorites that I know mix well so I can custom adjust. I also have a sheer bb cream to make things more sheer, and a glow balm in case something looks too matte. I have made a big dent in foundation this way. Lips- lipliner for things that are a bit too light, grey lipstick for ones that are too bright, black lipgloss for that purpose too. Depotting my many rituel de fille compacts into a vueset so I can custom mix or see things at a glance and not have the bulky same looking packaging to sort through. Highlighter I mix in with body cream if I want a glowy product instead of buying a devoted shimmer body oil/lotion. Skincare I have a good idea of what works for me and about how long I take to use up, I tend to pass on what doesn’t work to my roommate or his friend and I get more enjoyment out of that than trying to force myself to use something up I don’t like.

I appreciate this message so much! I've been seriously stressed, for a variety of reasons, and I deal with stress by shopping. My specific obsession at the moment is eyeshadow, and I've purchased so much recently that I can't even imagine how I could use it all. Actually, I never even intended to use it all ... those giant palettes have so much product, and I'll use mayyybe 4-6 shades out of 18. I recently bought one of the expensive Patrick Ta eyeshadow duos and wondered if it's better to buy an expensive duo product I'm more likely to hit pan on or spend the same amount for a big palette that I'll only use a few shades out of? Eyeliner pencil is great for any kind of body art, not just eyeliner. I used to use it to write reminders or just doodle on my arms because it’s easy to wash off but still clear/obvious enough to write with.

depending on the kind of eyeliner you could use it for art or journaling purposes. I used an eyeliner in my art journal to help finish it up. Eyeliner can also (depending on the colour/formula) be used as eyeshadow, or for making faux freckles if you were interested in finding alternate makeup related ways to use it. If you sew, you could potentially use it for marking fabric? That could be worth a try.

Make up isn’t generally safe to give away if it’s been used. If the pan or applicators have been in contact with your skin, it’s no longer hygienic and could transfer infection.

I think the community is split on this. Some people would say throw it away, give it away, or repurpose it somehow. I'd agree with that if the thing is giveaway-able. However, a lot of my stuff is old....and I mean old old and would not feel comfortable doing that. So, if the item is useable I try to find someway to use it. Sometimes I can't and cut my losses.

I have such a funny habit of hitting pan or getting to the end of a shampoo, then buying a new similar product while the near empty just sits there taking up space. I do this with everything including food! This video is helpful, I’m going to make a real effort to actually finish things. 😊

I found you through project panning! I am still panning but I have shifted to also working on rotating through my blushes and I think I need to do this with lipsticks, face palettes and anything I own over 5 of to keep getting use! I did this with singles and palettes this year. One of the areas I am focusing on is fragrance samples, fragrances in general and stationery and teas. Those are fun.

Love sheet masks! Clean your face and put it on for 15 mins whilst watching TV or making a tea (they can be faffy to unfold I’ll admit). But normally there’s so much product you don’t need any moisturiser after. Can just rub it in and leave it on overnight.

I am going to use some fancy eye mask patches and hopefully this Ordinary conditioner I bought this month and really don't like. I'm like you and hate to waste product, otherwise I would throw it away. I am using it as a shave cream and mixing with a deep conditioner on my hair just to try to power through using it up. 😊

This is a great reminder. I have a stash of those small shampoos and soaps from hotels all around the world. I hate those with all my heart, but I usually take them (because I heard they have to throw them away anyway) and stash them for guests or for traveling. But I have way too many of those; I have to use them up.

Hi love, with the Browliner you can use it as an eyeliner, lipliner too and blend it with the light lipstick and see if change the amount of colour it´s of your liking, useless or more depending on your taste.... By the way you´re sooooo right when you said that our taste in thing change, I´m 38 y/o and man !!!!! It´s like ... I don´t even used the same nail polish anymore, or the same perfume soooo I bought new thing and the old ones stay FOREVER in the closet. the beauty of this it´s lo acknowlegde the change and be aware of oneself when I´m about buy something

i think for me it would need to be nail polish top coats... I went through a big... not really declutter but a check in with my nailpolish bin and I ended up throwing out 6 polishes that were over 5 years old because the formula just wasn't aging well. But in the process i realized i had a bunch of thick topcoats just floating around.

For the sheetmask- You usally use it before going to bed or when you don't have to put makeup on top of it so you don't have to put anything on top of it. You can do it tho if you want to

Hi Shawna! Dermatologists don't recommend putting vit C and retinol on at the same time becuase their different pH levels cancel each other out, making both products less effective. That's why it's recommended to do vit C in the morning and retinol at night (also bc sunlight can make retinol less effective) Also for paper face masks, I will sometimes do them right before bed, while watching something on TV or just doing my daily scroll. They are essentially serums with a barrier (in the paper sheet) to help it stay wet longer (the idea being that if it dries slowly, it can penetrate deeper into the skin). So yeah, take off the paper, let the serum dry, and layer on the rest of your nighttime routine.

Not just cosmetic, when you said coffee/tea I immediately remembered my tea stock that I have barely touched😅... But also crafting/art supplies... Re: using things you don't like on your face as body lotion. Most sunscreen is basically a moisturizer, so if one feels bad about throwing that away (provided you like the texture and smell,) use it as body lotion. This summer I used up all my just-about-to-expire Kinship sunscreen as body sunscreen in one trip to the waterpark. Beats tossing it!

I use old expired creams on my feet, I try to finish everything, but sometimes I need to declutter because I don't like to use it f.e. foundations, but its rare I try to finish it. And I wear makeup when I am in homeoffice, I wear make-up for me not for anyone else, I like to feel glow up. You feel confident.

Creams I'm trying to get through, I make sure to use on my upper chest too, helps me remember to moisturize that area and get through it lol. Also sheet masks, I hate that cold feeling too. I submerge it in it's package in warm water for a few minutes and it helps.

I'm doing a no buy this month, and you've inspired me to try to use up some products while I'm at it. I also have some First Aid Beauty samples/minis to use - a face cleanser and a firming collagen cream. I'm also going to use up a NARS sample primer and a Clarins mini face cleanser. Thanks to your channel, I recently went around my makeup bag and decluttered a bunch of expired lipsticks and lipsticks in odd colours I know I'll never actually use again. I LOVE putting on lipstick, it's just that my makeup bag is stored away because my bathroom is too small to have it around... You can use most face washes for your intimate area, especially if they are unscented, and if you don't like your deodorant you can use it for your feet instead of your armpits. Another thing is to mix several shower gels in one bottle, or in as few bottles as possible, to reduce the visual clutter; then they can be used as not only shower gel but hand soap and just to clean all sorts of things; for instance, to give reusable period pads a quick rinse before putting them in the washing machine.

I just saw a shorts "shop and restock" video saying she bought a new toothbrush because she was just sick and needed to replace the old one. I was in shock, wondering if this was something everyone does and i never learned. But no, it's not necessary even though google has some dentists suggesting it, we cant get sick from our OWN germs. If we share a toothbrush then sure lol, we would get sick. But we cant reinfect ourselves from using our own toothbrush after being sick, we already developed the antibodies to that strain of cold/virus. Replace every 3 months or when its worn out not after every cold!

@sheenatalks8529 I pop my toothbrush in denture sanitizer (those tablets that fizz in water) or diluted hydrogen peroxide every month. Also, my dentist said you can clean your toothbrush every time in plain unscented bar soap and water if you want.

I like the idea of this because I hate to waste things, but I'd caution to use what you like first. Don't let things go bad while you're using up the old/almost expired stuff you don't really like. My mom used to do that and I swear she never ate food that wasn't almost stale/bad/rotten. The fresh stuff sat there while the old stuff was consumed. If you just once in a while throw out or give away what you don't like (my friends will take it, or sometimes their young kids will use it to play with!) you will get much more enjoyment out of it. Worst case, donate it to a mortuary for their makeup artists to use.
