Hurricane Ian made landfall right where I live. For the first time in my life I was legitimately terrified. I did the best to shore up my fence and enclosed carport because those were destroyed in Hurricane Irma. The experience paid off but nobody was prepared for 150+ MPH winds. I had very little damage and no storm surge. However, just a mile to my West, 8 feet of water stood in the community just across the highway. Many of my friends and coworkers lost everything. many have unlivable homes with all the drywall removed. I don't know what to say but I was fortunate. I cannot imagine having to live the reality of the worst case scenario whether it be a home, business, or vehicles.

When Hurricane Michael tried to wipe Bay County off the face of the earth along with the surrounding areas, I think many of us got an education. NEVER, EVER put your full faith in the weather guessers! If it is headed your way, GO! We kept hearing high three, maybe low four....NOTHING about a cat 5! I stayed because I had no place to go with ten cats so I toughed it out with them. There is nothing that will send your heart rate into overdrive like seeing your next door neighbor's house explode and just get scattered all over the place, My house was built in an era when they BUILT houses and it did quite well, just needed some roof and ceilings repaired. My outbuildings might have been okay for the most part until my neighbor's rotten century Oak fell on them! The biggest problem we had, once people could get in to us was finding anyone LEGITIMATE to do the repairs and rebuilding.

Nice job on what you did. You noted how high the flood was, so the question I have is what about the mud trapped behind the door panels in side doors and rear interior panels and inside quarter panels underneath side glass and reason the car is forsale the car was in a salt bath so no thank you on the rust time bomb. Been there !

Appearance wise it looks amazing. I would have also taken the seats apart and replaced the foam as well as the door panels as they are both absorbent and would retain smells. I would have pulled the steering wheel and blown out water inside the steering column and treated wiring and I would have treated any unpainted metal like the floors and doors with a rust converter as they were soaked in salt water.

My OCD was going nuts when you were spraying the water all inside the car. Like "AARRRGGGH!" But I think this LS can be started again. From what I understand, so long as it wasn't running and no water got sucked into it, should be fine. Am I a pro? Nope. Just what I've been told. Came out ready for a new lease on life! Beautiful Nova SS

I would guarantee the cylinders and crankcase are full of water and mud along with trans and differential. If it has clutch fan that'll also need replacing. It definitely will be a looker when it's all finished. I had similar experience with a flooded with a 80's Chevy pickup. These were all the things I found wrong with it. Hope this helps.

Sad to see the Nova destroyed by the flood, it's a rare car that deserves to be restored. Chevy made a Nova SS Convertible only one year, 1963, and total production number of convertibles in '63 was around 25000 cars. There are no records of how many of those were SS cars, maybe 10000? So it's a rare car nowadays...

This made me miss my 65 that I owned back in 88. It was a hardtop with a 283 and Saginaw 4 speed. A drunk in a Ford truck hit me one Saturday night and destroyed it. It was no LS but it was a screamer with the cammed out 283.

Hey boys, nice job. Given what it looks like to me I would think (as a non mechanical guy) this car looks intact and worth restoring rather than parting. If it was hammered and dented and rusted then maybe not but, give its appearance and that you think it has already been gone through before it seems like it would not be a big reach to make it street ready again. Thanks again boys and all my best to you always. Pete Hollister, CA

You asked about the engine turning over after being in a flood. Depends on how long it's been. Might be a job for Marvel Mystery Oil to free up the engine parts. Wiring may have dried out enough. Might just need a new battery and oil change. Gonna continue to watch and see if it fires up for you.
