I have a hitch mount cargo carrier I use with my OBW, in addition to a roof cargo box, when I'm with my wife and we are sleeping inside the vehicle (so cargo space is limited). I don't use this when I'm sleeping in the car solo, or when we're using a ground tent, because it tends to be very impactful to your departure angle and offroadability. But for certain trips that are mostly pavement based, its a reasonable choice. I still think the roof boxes are more versatile most of the time

I'm sure it's great but the thing about the rooftop carriers is the fact you can lock it. Yes you can wrap a bike lock or something flimsy but I wouldn't trust anything else than basic luggage back there.

yes in that aspect, you are 10000% correct and I don't leave anything valuable back there.

I’d like to see a video of all that you pack for camping and where you put them (in the car vs in the roof box)

Thanks for your idea and I will try to make a video of them. and most of my camping videos shows how my car is packed so check them out too~

Any update on using it for your trips? Also, how do you get into your trunk, I’m assuming only by removing everything that’s in the carrier?

I've used it a few times already and it's great! kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3TZi3yfe9-UsKMsi=UWW56XRxcoFVx7P- and kzbin.info/www/bejne/eICtqYaNbqaIq6csi=b0Ir5mcciFvHTeco

The carrier might be able to take 500lbs but the hitch on the NA Wilderness is only rated for 270lbs max, including the weight of the carrier.
@ChasingAdventuresCO Жыл бұрын
aw, yes, you car correct and 270lbs tongue weight should be consider when loading cargo with a hitch carrier. great point!

I am pretty sure the 2023 Outback Wilderness has a max tongue weight of 350lbs.

😮When you aired the video with your wife and daughter and all the gear, I was thinking how did they squeeze in! Just don’t put Pepper in the rooftop cargo box! Lol 😂
@ChasingAdventuresCO Жыл бұрын
hahaha, yes my wife was trapped in the car. LOL she was sitting in the middle all squished in. felt bad so I think this will come very handy next time we go camping. meanwhile Pepper had shotgun and had the whole seat all to him self. LOL

I believe you're still going to have the same issue with the instant tent, the cargo hitch is good for the other stuff, but you'll remain with the same issue on fitting your wife/child in the backseat.
@ChasingAdventuresCO Жыл бұрын
possibly yes, and I will have to try it out next time I go camping with the family but additional cargo space is always welcome.

Will this be too wide for Mitsubishi RVR/Outlander Sport?

I don't think so.

How do you open that hatch?
@ChasingAdventuresCO2 ай бұрын
Just remove items that are taller than the hitch carrier
@timflaherty27312 ай бұрын
@@ChasingAdventuresCO So you can lift the hatch with the basket attached? It's not too heavy?
@ChasingAdventuresCO2 ай бұрын
@@timflaherty2731 The hatch door is not connected to the basket. the cargo carrier = basket it attached to the hitch, if that's what you are referring to.
