I really think it's about a mindset shift. After going on my natural hair journey, i started to appreciate my curls, coils, and the things my natural hair could do. It was only then that when a special event or my birthday came up I would make sure to prep my hair into an afro or twist out. Essentially i had to relearn the beauty in my hair to celebrate it and not think of getting a weave. Now that i have locs its easy because I already have that mind shift with my natural hair. But its something that you truly have to feel/learn for yourself, it cant be done for you.

“It can’t be done for you” that’s a word right there! It’s a great mindset shift. That’s why I love the transitioning process from relaxed to natural. You have to re-identify with what is beautiful to you… Re-learn what hairstyles you love to see on yourself and how to do it. Also stop caring about other people’s opinion, that’s number 1!

Locks SHOULD be acceptable anywhere and everywhere because it’s the hair that we were born with as long as they are clean. They are becoming more and more acceptable thank goodness! For formal occasions, I think that people who are free formers should at least have it touched up a little. Lock so beautiful and as long as people educate themselves on it loc lovers, as well as non-loc individuals. I love that it shows the world that we are human beings and we can grow our hair just like any other race as long as we’re doing the right thing for our hair texture. I remember A few years back when non-Black people thought that blacks could not grow their hair now what can they say?????.

🗣️ What can they say!!?? I love everything you said! I remember when people used to say black ppl can’t grow hair 😭😭 the problem was we were burning it with harsh chemicals and too much heat. How can we expect others to respect our natural hair if we are too afraid to wear it. So glad more women are finding their natural hair more beautiful and glamorous to wear at any occasions. As far as free form locs they should feel proud wear it as is after all, that is the point. ✨💝

I love your answer. I think it’s wild they thought our hair couldn’t grow lol. Being exposed to “others” and educating oneself is 🔑 . I love that our people are getting more comfortable with seeing ourselves in our natural beauty. We really do have the most versatile and unique texture

The short answer is yes lol. I started my loc journey while dating and by the time my wedding rolled around I was 2yrs in. Now since I didn’t have the length I wanted I braided my locs into a crown and added kinky stretch hair to hang in the back. I loved it. I love my hair. And yes our natural hair can be worn in ANY setting and it is stunning! Great topic btw.

I love that! I bet you looked stunning on your wedding day! Just curious, did your husband meet you with loose natural hair or did you start your locs prior?

Awww thank you. I actually did a long painful transition. I went from relaxed to texlaxed to a 6inch chop in a 3yr period. I was so fed up and tired of doing my hair I stopped using chemicals all together and started researching. I finally found all these beautiful loc sizes to chose from and never looked back. It gave me everything I wanted: versatility, beauty, no wash DAY, no detangling, and a legit wash and go. Wish I would have have started this during the 3yrs transition!

Sorry! I never gave a complete answer to your question 😂. He met me when I stopped texlaxing

Wow you must’ve had a lot of patience, I was so eager to do the big chop lol Did you notice a big difference with relaxer and texturizer? I thought they were pretty much the same. That’s cool that he saw you at pretty much all stages. Mine only saw me in pics before locs. I feel like if I cut my locs it would be a shock to him lol

I was trying to loosen the coils so that it would be easier to detangle. I got the opposite effect. I had inconsistent results bc I didn’t know how to control how long I left the relaxer on🙄. Basically I had 3 different textures on one head. Some was a looser curl, some straight, and then tighter coils.

Real hair ALL THE WAY EVERDAY! You look like a different person with that wig/weave. Locs should be acceptable full stop, so long as they clean & maintained not raggedy & hanging on by few strands of hair, there’s some amazing styles you can wear your locs in if you so choose. 😊
@nattyann Жыл бұрын
Yes that was young nat!! Lol It’s amazing how different styles look on your features. God is the best artist lol oweee I hate to see locs hanging on by a thread. 😪
