High blood pressure is a major global health challenge and one of the main reasons why it has become more prevalent is because increasingly more economically developing countries are adopting the western lifestyle which leads to sedentary behaviour, physical inactivity, consumption of calorie dense fatty foods, high sodium intake and excessive levels of stress.
It is also well recognised that excessively elevated blood pressure numbers can be associated with harm to the body at a microscopic level initially and then over a course of years that damage can start manifesting as strokes, heart attacks and kidney failure and therefore there is great emphasis by healthcare bodies around the world to reduce high blood pressure numbers through lifestyle and medications.

I am in my early 60s and only get 4hrs no matter how early I go to bed. I try every thing , been off drugs for 6yrs and Dr wants me to go back. Mind you exercise was helping along with water melon. Iam also losing weight until the veins in my neck are showing. I am not feeling any pain but I cannot keep a steady weight. I wish I could reduce stress. And get restful sleeps. Have s good day.

Zero alcohol for one year, conscious about sugar intake but not crazy, I eat clean single ingredient foods, my snacks are fruits and nuts, I don't have a cheat day because I don't feel the need. I do a light full body workout 5 days per week using dumbbells, bands and bodyweight. I have done zero cardio, but I do walk a lot at my job. I stretch before going to bed. December 2020 I was 30% body fat I had my physical last Friday and was 15% body fat. Stop reading about all the fad diets and study nutrition to make a lasting change in your health.

Thank you so much for this information. "An unhappy body and an unhappy mind" - how very true!. One impinges on the other. For well over 15 years I have been adopting all the lifestyle changes that are recommended for controlling hypertension except for vigorous exercise which I find difficult because I have rheumatoid arthritis. Sadly, these changes have not really reduced the numbers on my BP readings. (around 145/80). I am stressed about this because I really, really have tried. At my last annual review, in desperation I asked my GP to prescribe BP lowering medication because I really do think being so hung up on food, exercise and controlling my BP naturally/by my own effort was actually doing almost as much harm as a poor diet and no exercise! Unhappy mind, unhappy body. Since taking the BP medication (one month in) my BP is now around the 125/75 mark, I feel more relaxed, less anxious and have LESS PAIN from my arthritis! Explain that!? I will continue with the the other recommendations and, hopefully, get more sustained exercise now that the pain is less. My ECG and blood work are normal. I'm 73. I don't have CKD but I have read that those with this disease should NOT increase their intake of potassium.

And just as I'm think how am I going to lower my BP, this video is the next one, God is so good.🙌🏾 Thank you so much for the information given, it's not a diet needed but a lifestyle change for me. I don't eat land meat, just fish once or twice a month cod or tuna, I don't drink alcohol, smoke, but I also don't exercise and love sweet foods. I know I need to cut ✂️ down my sugar intake, (my weight is just over 89kg) exercise portion control with food and exercise at least 5 to 6 days a week. So I'm save this video and g start working on it today Monday 17th October 2022, and report back in a months time with the results. Thank you once again and greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱🤗

Everyone's blood pressure normally rises and lowers throughout the day and night, even for elite world-class athletes, and especially with physical activity, just as this individual has stated doing more of with exercising daily, and other regular life events then taken into account too, and a heck of a lot higher than a very decent 135/77, and they're all plenty healthy and, again, it's absolutely normal, so please stop spreading false information and or projecting your own personal, as well as highly ill informed, health insecurities onto others when you clearly do not know what you're talking about in the slightest concerning blood pressure, or even anything else for that matter.

An excellent insight into the world of BP. I have been through many such videos from other persons, and here you summarized all the key points very well. I really appreciate the fact that you are more concerned about the under lying condition. The only other method I wish you would address a little more is deep breathing. My BP was 170/110 and reduced to now about 150/100 9with life style change, beetroot, exercise, magnesium citrate). If I deep breath (following Dr Adam J. Story on KZbin), I am able to lower this temporarily to around 144/95. Stress if a big factor and I find breathing helps. Look forward to your explanation on breathing, etc. please can you also create a video on how your online consultancy works for those of us overseas. Let me take this opportunity to invite you to Barbados at our home a holiday with your family after your recovery in quarantine. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Do you take any medications as well? I'm 59, I don't drink alcohol or smoke, I run and swim every day, and have no excess weight. My restting heart rate is 53, but my BP is 182/100. I/ve tried everything to get it down, but it won't. I'm reluctant to take any medications, as I've heard they can be bad for you over the long term. Maybe that's my normal numbers.

Your advice and detailed information on HBP really helpful. I always get anxious whenever I see my pressure high, because of stressed and for many reason. Listening your info on this about the number, made my pressure down. Also made me think in different way on this issue. Thank you. May be Doctors need to be brave rather than keep prescribing medication.

Sanjay, I love your videos. They bring awareness, educate and motivate one to value and take better care of our health - something most of us take for granted until we have problems. Sounds like many of them could have been avoided by diet and lifestyle. Lucky are the ones who learn this early but it's never too late to do something. You feel better, you look better, and hopefully it prolongs your life as well as making you feel better. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and encouragement. You may lose a patient but you contribute to a healthier people.

Excellent video on BP. I’ve been taking Magnesium glycerinate for a number of years and it had been helpful. I have the classic “white coat “ syndrome. Every time I have it checked at the clinic it is high. I check my BP at home for a month before my annual physical and the doctor thinks that works. He did make me bring my BP monitor to the clinic to make sure it works. Thanks again, Les

THANK YOU... you talk so much sense. I had type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and was overwieght. I was on medication that gave me massive heart pulpitations to the point i thought i was going to die - my heart was doing back flips. I stopped taking them immediatly and the pulpitations went away. Since then I have gotten rid of my diabetes by following a sugarless, low carb, non processed diet and now my blood pressure is much lower (i monitor it myself), I lost wieght and i'm no longer diabetic. I have started to walk (dog walk twice a day) and hike a lot and i feel 20 years younger with loads of energy. Thanks for all the tips and i know from experience that you can get your life back without medication (please tell your doctor if you come off meds though). Thanks again...

A wonderfully helpful message, as usual, Dr Gupta! 🥇☀️ It is now clear that my HBP was caused by insulin resistance AND. being an overweight. Diabetic. I finally kicked out all simple carbs and in 5 weeks have lost 9 pounds of the 20 total which I need to lose. I did NOT look FAT-being “ only a little bit Type 2 Diabetic” WAS my biggest problem. And I ignored it at my peril. I’m now eating very low carb AND using Intermittent Fasting. Never hungry and losing more Fat than Pounds! And I use my cheap little exercise bike a few minutes daily, incorporating HIITs. Life is good and I’m about to turn 88. 😋🥰

Thank you dr for the this very informative advice. I am 79yrs old female. I had high systolic BP for a number of yrs. Been told it was ok for my age. Systolic BP has been 70-90. Last year in my routine annual medical checks found my sugar level elevated. It has always been normal. Due to Covid 19 lockdown have been snacking on chips, chocolate n other junk food. I am not on any medication only but supplements. Am my best to eat healthy and exercise. Although I cheat sometimes. Now my BP is 160/90 morning glucose reading before breakfast is 5.6- 7.00 mmol/m

So appreciative of the fact that there are many good Drs Who still have humanity at heart. I am 59 years old female just find out my BP 160/80 . Yet, in most of my life time tried to maintain a good healthy lifestyle as much as I could. Including eating clean, excercise regularly, moderate winning and no smoking. Hence, finding out I am with hypertension it came as a surprise. However, coming across this video and reading so many of the comments ,It gives me a slight of hope it is still possible to reduce the BP by following the provided suggestions. God help me I hate taking medicine
