A lot of these "friendships" result from circumstances out of the other person's control. i.e the other person has a significant other already, or someone doesn't see the other in that way, so now they have no choice but to be "just friends" but given the opportunity they'll take it, so the friendship isn't genuine if there's ulterior motives behind it.

I'm friends with a woman that is below average in physical appearance. To be fair I am friends with a bunch of attractive women too and never did try anything with them when I first met them nor did I when they were single and if they are single up to this day I still never try anything on them. When I meet a girl that I start talking or hanging out alot because there cool I straight tell them 1 on 1 that I'm attracted to them if I am. I do this to get it out of the way early. No matter what, and it works to make things easier for me to get that stuff out early. I'll tell them also that I dont wait around and talk to plenty other girls. Some of them stop talking to me and others stick around, even though it may not be the best thing to do it makes things easier for me. I dont know if it's a good thing to do or not but I really dont care because even though I'm still in my mid 20s, I like to treat myself like i look good and i am a catch. and even though I'm young I already seen enough to know that there's plenty others out there. especially if were going to be just friends.

My husband warned me over and over “I know that your friend from the elementary days, but he got a ting for you” thought he was jealous- nope he was right. My other guy friend same thing. I have seen girls swear up and down “I knew him long time” they end up dating. Unless it is a mutual friendship like two married couples and they all friends together sure but other then that, NO. Men and women can not be friends at least genuinely. Acquaintances sure, colleagues sure, classmates sure. 100% Agree... The friendship is limited by the guy being married, or in another relationship. Otherwise the friends would be fair game... there is some sort of sexual interest, but there is a barrier to it. I have several male friends (associates), but they are otherwise engaged. Otherwise, we'd have done the deed.

I don't think the romantic type of love is special. And I am started to think that the romantic type of love isn't real. I mean about more than half of romantic couples either break up with each other or divorce each other, while most platonic best friends remain friends until death. Also, most people are pretty much comfortable enough to be naked around someone and have sex with someone that they have no romantic feelings towards. So sex isn't really a thing about romance. I think that having a platonic best friend is a lot better than having a romantic partner or spouse is. Having someone who's like a sibling to you is a lot better than having a romantic partner is. Also, you would more likely be much closer to a person who's like a brother or sister to you than you would be with a partner or spouse. People tend to fight with their partner or spouse a lot more than they do with a platonic best friend, and you never fight with your best friend the way you fight with your partner or spouse. Partners and spouses are just temporary. If you break up or divorce them, it's hard to go back to them. With your platonic best friend, you're going to make things work, because they are your best friend, they are your go to partner. It's always easier to make amends with them than it is with a romantic partner or spouse.

Also, I heard that most people can live a life without romance and can still be happy. But most of the time, if someone doesn't have any platonic friends in their life, it can effect them really bad mentally; much worse than living a life without a romantic partner. In today's world, less people are dating and getting married now, and they seem to be more happy being single rather than being in romantic relationship with someone. Also, you're going to have a much deeper spoken understanding and connection with your best friend than you are with a romantic partner or spouse. So those are other reasons why romantic love isn't real or special, while platonic love is.

I really don't see what the big deal is in this topic. I've definitely had female friends that I've been attracted to. Never TRIED to get with them. Probably never would have. If they came on to me, maybe I would have accepted if I was feeling horny. But for me, it's not that big a deal if they don't. If it happens, cool, if not, fine. Never would spend money on them or anything, but I'd still be friends with them.

Definitely yes! Source: my best friend is a girl. I love her like a sister. I look at her in a similar way to how I look at my actual siblings. As a firstborn with twin younger siblings, it’s very awesome when you have a friend who literally is the twin you never had. I actually have a girlfriend who I love more than anything.
