JUNE 2023 update: The metal tip cannot scratch glass, but it may scratch off the anti-reflective coating.

You explain their characteristics so well in your video - I didn't even know they existed. Lol. I don't think these are for me... But good to know with the update.

You're the only person that pays attention to pressure sensitivity which is very valuable for artists. I really appreciate your videos. You're the only youtuber that covers everything an artists could care abt. Thank you

One thing I’ve noticed with the needle tips is that they are less accurate and strokes done especially on more tilted angles tend to worsen the offset. It’s not an issue if you write or draw predominantly on a straight 90 degree angle, but its very distracting if you naturally write on a lower angle.
@Nayelianne Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the review, a lot of content creators don't test wobble or tilt so this was quite insightful as an artist who values accuracy and control while drawing without relying so much in the stabilizer. Really appreciate it!

Perfectly round metal won't scratch glass. The scenario I'm worried about is if the metal tip becomes abraded over time or is dropped and it becomes jagged - then it might scratch glass
@trym2121 Жыл бұрын
Hence, use tempered glass for your screen protector rather than paperlike. My wife's pencil now almost felt like 85% s-pen rather than gliding on ice

To make it jagged you'd have to basically sharpen it on purpose lol. There is no way to make is sharp with regular use. And even then, it should not scratch glass unless you jam it into the screen. The only issue with metal tips is this - although glass is harder than the metals used for the tips, metal is stronger - if you push the tip into the screen, the glass will shatter. You'd need considerable force to do this - perhaps drop your bag with the tablet and the pen inside and get unlucky on how they land on each other. Not likely, but possible. You can't do that with plastic tips. But overall, it should be safe to use. Another problem might be the back side of the tablet - it is aluminium, isn't it ? Yea, that scratches easily (if it is pure aliminium or some soft alloy, which it probably is because it is cheaper than hard alloys and easier to work with) and the tip will probably do it. So you might wanna keep the pen (or the ipad) in some sort of case, sleeve or in a different compartment in a bag to avoid that.

@@tusux2949 you underestimate matte protectors
@nof5070 Жыл бұрын
Im actually glad you reviewed this bc this would save people buying tips that wear off from matte screen protectors 🎉 I have two metal tips paired with a magnetic matte screen protector and I could say its better with matte the long tip does feel comfortable but theres an offset that it’s a bit tilted to the left or right the other one with the same size as the original tip(round point) does the job better because the offset is just like the apple pencil for drawing 👍 I switch back to glass with the original pencil tip whenever I feel like it

Thanks, i've always thought of this combo since writing on glass is so slippery and hard to control

I might have bought the wrong one because mine have permanent scratch marks on my iPad 😅 However, as long as you ensure that ur pen tip is not flat it should be ok.
@justforthetv Жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that! Are you implying that the metal tip you purchased is flat? What happened?

Hello! What's the matte screen protector you were using? It's removable? Also will the metal tip on matte protector provide more resistance? How would you describe it? Is it like writing on paper?
@teohontech7141 Жыл бұрын
It's a removable matte screen protector from Benks. There is more texture with the metal tip on the matte screen protector.

I never recommend metal tips. While the Mohs scale is accurate, it doesn’t tell us everything we need to know. Take records as an example. Vinyl is much softer that the diamond stylus, yet, the diamond does wear down and has to be replaced after some time. The problem with metal tips is that they will wear and get a sharp edge. If you tap a bit too hard you can damage the screen as a friend did with his. Fortunately, with AppleCare they replaced the screen. And he’s also right about the coating. That can be scratched off if the metal is too sharp. The plastic points deform slightly, but the metal points do not. It’s better to just stay away from them.

I noticed when writing with needle tip that the ipad is catching the signal (and therfore register the ink) before i even touch the screen, so that's why it's not as pretty as with regular tip.

Screens are often made with Gorilla Glass that is even harder than normal glass.
@shirakuyanai40958 ай бұрын
Short awnser: No. Long answer: The type of metal used to make the tips are not as hard as the glass used to make the screen. And harder things scratch the less hard things. Which means your screen is scratching your tip, not the other way around. Unless you press it too hard then it might scratch your screen.

I worry more about what those aftermarket nibs do to the pencil itself than what they do to the iPad glass.
@teohontech7141 Жыл бұрын
What would they do? The nibs just screw on and off like original Apple Pencil nibs.
@carmenrenee5146 Жыл бұрын
They work beautifully. They’re soft and don’t scratch. It’s simply a preference. They screw on and off the exact same. I love mine with a matte protector. ♥️
