Think about it... allow the potential for the big play but increase the chances of turnover through it? Instead of playing it safe and just allowing the Vikings to chunk way down the field and a lower risk of turnover. I fully expect to see a higher blitz rate from the Lions.

The "metamorphosis" of Darnold that Thor describes is exactly why the Vikes need to go with McCarthy next year. McCarthy will go through that as well and then will have a long, long career ahead, maybe as much as 15 years.
@BobbyArrow16 күн бұрын
Vikings fans are going to struggle with the Darnold vs. JJ McCarthy debate. We have craved a long-term answer at QB since Tommy Kramer. Since 1987, there has been a parade of mediocrity combined with short-term fill-ins. Even the ones which were good (Moon, Cunningham, Favre) didn't last more than a couple seasons. Culpepper only lasted 4-5 seasons before his career ended. Teddy only had 2 years. That's why so many people loved Kirk, not because he was great, but because he was stable and above average. Now, people see Darnold, who is 10 years younger than Kirk, and playing better than Kirk ever played, and they want to keep him for a decade, and I can't blame them for thinking that way. They very well might be right. However, I think the big lesson of the last 3 years is that the coaching is more important than the QB. Like Judd says, it doesn't mean that anyone can play QB--O'Connell could only go so far with Josh Dobbs. However, if O'Connell says they can stick to the plan with JJM next year, I am good. Build a monster roster around him and roll. Also, write this down: The Vikings first pick of the 2025 draft will be a running back.
@bkm2317 күн бұрын

I'm curious, if the Vikings were 10-7 or 11-6, but Darnold had his same stats, would you want them to re-sign him? I just feel like the team record, which multiple games early on were won without much help from Darnold, are what's driving everyone's obsession with re-signing him.
@waveparticle2317 күн бұрын
@@CrudPig12 first 5 TD game in TWENTY years for a Vikings qb. Most wins ever for a Vikings QB. He has clearly won over the team. He's tough as they come.
@waveparticle2317 күн бұрын
And you can basically say "other elements of the team were bigger for some wins" about any QB or team
@marklormirliani889517 күн бұрын
Thor knows nothing about Darnold. He’s just paying attention to him now. No one looks good playing for Jets or Carolina, especially back then. Vikings picks in past few years haven’t been great so you may not have any Ferrari in the garage. Shouldn’t take lightly what these free agents have brought to this team. It’s not a problem paying the right guys
@rosssivertson633916 күн бұрын
Alot of these free agents will be gone and it will be more if Darnold gets a payday to stay. I doubt we'd be able to keep Gink,Grennard,and Cashman not to mention others. You'd lose a few
@XElPhantom17 күн бұрын
People keep talking about the Lions' injuries on defense. Their offense can still put up points. The Vikings need to come prepared. No punts - all four downs, just like our foe. Can't allow the Lions defense to get momentum. Get the crowd out of it. 😅 I'm just rambling.... man, I'd love to see the Vikings pull this off. And take it all the way to the bowl! 😅
@kingomar786017 күн бұрын
I agree with Thor to a certain extent. If they win the SB, I'd be less likely to bring Sam back. At that point, Kwesi and KOC will be made men! Go with JJ and the cap space and try to win one with him too!
@brettkaye48417 күн бұрын
I didn't used to be a fan of Thor. Not like "dislike", but more just "meh". He's gradually gotten to be one of my favorites, and this episode was great.
@willisread17 күн бұрын
The Lions are completely fine with letting Jetters get his. AG will go man for the most part with 1-1 to JJ like we always do.
@ShaunBowm17 күн бұрын
You keep the plan ,maybe tweak it up slightly, but you have cap considerations.... If Darnold regardless of winning the SB , we need to add these players to make us more solid, we can only afford this for you, you are worth more Darnold may or may not take considerable less to stay If he does like the situation, ( even with JJM in the wings) and really likes putting a better team around the QB than maybe he takes the offered deal
@CrudPig1217 күн бұрын
I could see him taking less than market value to stay with the Vikes, but I don't think he would take a drastic cut. I keep seeing fans say he should take $25-$30 mil a year. If he is offered $40+ mil a year from a team, he'll take it.

Thor is delusional to think If this team wins a Super Bowl with Sam, they’re letting him walk for what he said “a top ten prospect” Key work PROSPECT. Unproven rookie

Yeah can darnold make 50 million a year and lead us to greatness without a supporting cast..? I don’t think so and I agree. It’ll be Kirk 2.0. Stick with the jj plan and young qb contract
@Yamchas-corpse17 күн бұрын
@@LprogressivesANDliberals You sound like another PD lemming. The Vikings are on track to win 15 games with Darnold and are arguably the best team in the NFL right now. We’re in a “win now” window, not just for this year but likely the next couple years. Why on earth would we waste that window starting a rookie QB who still has to learn how to play in the NFL, has lower potential, no proven track record, and could easily turn out to be a total bust?

JJ McCarthy never averaged over 200 yards per season in college. Sam Darnold averaged 300 yards in college. Darnold was also younger and wasn't coached by a former NFL QB and coaching guru. This fanbase thinks JJM will just step in and replicate Darnold which is delusional

The Lions have a simple, elegant solution to the chaos of D-Flo's stunting, tricky D: Five big men forming a stout half-circle in front of their quarterback. It is very difficult to trick your way through a solid wall. They also have a couple tight ends to block blitzes from the sides, and Goff knows just when to get rid of the ball. He operates with no fear, and if somebody does get through, he's willing to take a sack or throw away the ball. Pretty much what KOC is trying to teach Darnold. In the Vikings' favor, Darnold is more talented than Goff, and Darnold has a more talented group of receivers. If he really spreads the ball around, he could out-score the Lions. Skol.
