I don't know if I would "diagnose" monica with OCD, but i do see here that they present well the anxiety associated with OCD. It's not that people with OCD are neat freaks. It's more that they can have a compulsion or thought, or "feeling" that they need to do something, and if they don't they get very anxious. The way to treat this is to teach the person that anxiety is ok, that nothing bad will happen even though the anxiety is telling them that it will, and they won't die if they have that anxiety. Slow exposure therapy (where you gently expose the person to situations that make them anxious, and reminding yourself you are ok, is how to work on it.

@@nchl5340 The writing is setting it up so that responsible orderliness is easily conflated with a disorder. They’re aiming at the conservatives so as to make them despised for having OCD when they act responsible. That’s what that “Karen” slur is also all about. It is a fact that ... Any, all, behavior that is cultivated by choice naturally turns into a compulsion such that you feel uneasy when there’s a failure to adhere. They’re exaggerating it on Monica here for the purpose I mentioned of demonizing responsible people. This is how the Obama commies fragmented America. Now they’ve taken it over for Marx. End times. The 666. Prophecy being fulfilled.

Monica has OCPD (obsessive-compulsive personality disorder), not OCD. People with OCPD have the obsessiveness baked into their very personality, and so they have little control over it. People with OCD, on the other hand, are aware of their obsessive tendencies. I know this because I asked my therapist about it, lol (I have OCD).
@Hayden-rc1ru9 ай бұрын
It's more than that. OCD comes with a lot of intrusive thoughts and rituals, it's closer to paranoia, while OCPD is more about an obsessive need for control over everything, thinking your way is the best and anger issues over it. OCD is more about fear than anger. I wouldn't say it's fair to say that people with OCPD have little awareness that they have it, because I sure do. OCD and OCPD are both hard disorders to control, but in different ways.

Why do people who like to have things clean and orderly always get vilified as being the ones who have the problem? I think that maybe this is a tool that people who just don't care or don't want to take responsibility use against those who do. Maybe they're the ones with the issues and have successfully found a way to vilify those who get up and do the majority of the work it takes to keep things clean and organized. Oh yeah, and I'm just waiting for the comments that say "Says one with OCD". I'm far from OCD. I just think sometimes Monica's not wrong.

I have ocd! I got diagnosed officially when I was 13. Before that, people assumed I was simply bossy (well, I am bossy). But it got to a point where I would cry and have anxiety attacks over things like pencils not facing the same direction when in a little cup, or the same thing with matches in a match box! Now I am 21, I am medicated (although I'm trying to get off of it!), and have a much better handle on my ocd Unfortunately I understand why people with ocd tend to be vilified in movies and media. On bad days, I can reach the point where I'll yell and be mean simply because I "want x the way I want it." It's hard to explain to someone without anxiety or ocd that I "want x the way I want it" because I feel a sense of impending doom otherwise. Monica is my fave character on friends just because I feel like I can relate to her the most! I know what it feels like to make people annoyed or upset because I let my ocd brain take over and make me defensive and aggressive. But if you have the right friends and family, they'll love you in spite of that and be able to tease you, making something that feels huge inside your mind appear as small and harmless as it really is :)

Her OCD in the beginning of the seasons (like here) was done tastefully, but after a while you can tell the writers wanted her to keep that “quirk” so bad, they overdid it. It became less funny and more “omg Monica, chill tf out”

OCD looks funny and adorable only in the comedy show. In real life, living with people like Monica is no less than hell. And it gets very toxic with time.

What you are talking about is ocpd (Obsessive compulsive personality disorder) and that’s just what this show is mostly showing too. But OCD is a living hell for people with the disorder and it’s different. For people with OCD it can be many different things but it’s intrusive thoughts that cause a lot of and compulsive actions to calm the anxiety. This could be thoughts related to germs and falling ill, accidentally running someone over or harming someone else, forgetting to turn off the stove and burning down the house, so they have to keep checking to make sure they did it. Now I mean with Monica and the shoes that’s kinda like it but I think it would be more around, I have to move those shoes cause if I don’t it might spread germs to the carpet and then it might get someone sick and they will die and it would be my fault. Or something like that, Not just that she doesn’t like the shoes on the carpet. OCPD is where people need everything orderly and exactly how they want it. And they wouldn’t see anything as being wrong with this whereas people with OCD are caused extreme discomfort by not giving into compulsions because they think something bad will happen. I have OCD and it mainly just effects me being caught in an endless loop of compulsions and reassurance seeking. It has to do with uncertainty vs ocpd has to do with wanting things a particular way just cause it’s what you are supposed to do. OCD is more akin to an anxiety disorder, it’s always joked about but the disorder sucks ass, I hate it.

This is where they ducked up, chandelier clearly knows that Monica is a clean freak and OCD, but when they got together in the future , he starts to clean and move things around. When the room mates came home and notice that things were different they acknowledged him. And he acted stupid about knowing that she is that type of person. And they had to correct him for his mistake. They told him that Monica would kill you if she knew that you did this. Who else agrees on this ???

Rachel: Look! I cleaned! I did the windows, I did the floors. I even used all the attachments on the vacuum, except that little round one with the bristles, I don't know what that's for. Ross: Oh yeah, nobody knows. And we're not supposed to ask.

Most of these people in the comments don't know what OCD actually is yet they are acting like they're psychologists when analysing Monica. The person who titled this video doesn't known what it is either. OCD is not just wanting things to be clean or orderly, it is way more intense than that. Those are both possible indicators of OCD but they aren't enough to determine a diagnosis. But given the behavior we see from Monica outside being a beat freak, I really do not think she had OCD.
