First off, I just wish to say that I think Monica was always treated unfairly by her parents and she deserved better. But it is super clear that she never saved up the way her parents taught her, which makes me root for Ross at times. It was so unfair that her parents never paid for her wedding, but this explains why she literally had no money and tried to pressure Chandler into giving up his savings.
@jwill58922 жыл бұрын
The character of Monica is a lot smarter than that so I don't know why they made her do that
@Vyselink2 жыл бұрын
So unfair that her parents never paid for her wedding? Why should parents have to pay for ANY wedding? I've always found that tradition to be incredibly stupid, even immoral. "Mom, Dad, I know you paid to raise me for nearly 20 years (and possibly college), but now I've met someone and I'd like you to spend thousands more of your money to pay for that".
@TumblinWeeds2 жыл бұрын
Hey ma and pa, where’s that part of your retirement fund I get to blow on fancy invitation cards and exorbitant decorations?
@jclyntoledo2 жыл бұрын
@@Vyselink I'm pretty sure they are saying it's unfair of them not to pay since they paid for Ross's wedding. So if they are paying for one child why wouldn't they pay for the other. That was the point they were making.
@valhallamcgaughey37202 жыл бұрын
@vyselink Parents do not have to pay for their kids’ weddings. However, in this show it is clear that Monica’s parents told her they would pay for her wedding whenever she got married. Monica freely mentions the Monica Wedding Fund around them and later in the series they tell her they did save money for her wedding but then spent it on other things. I think it is unfair of them to lead her to believe they will pay and never tell her they changed their minds until she’s engaged. She didn’t think she needed to save for a wedding. She even had different wedding scenarios planned out because she didn’t know exactly what her parents’ budget would be.
@jennynyle892 жыл бұрын
Watching Ross and Monica is like watching me and my brother being treated unfairly. I'm the one who always had to be tougher and my brother can easily get help from them since he's their favorite. And since he's the favorite child, he could never do wrong. Lol. Even if he did wrong, they would do their best to cover him. And the worst part would be me having to face consequences of his bad behaviors. Like when my parents become paranoid of me going out with friends just because my brother lied to them about going out to tuition classes but instead he went out meeting his gf back then. Is that fair?
@supermilkguy2 жыл бұрын

@poluticon2 жыл бұрын

@MJN_SEIFER Жыл бұрын
Neither of those things were present in this show. I understand people seeing fat shaming, but it's ultimately just friends joking with each other and (if they were real) they'd probably stop if they were actually offending her (overthinking it, I know, but that's the vibe I get from these scenes.) Friends is one of the last places you'll find homophobia though - it treats being gay like exactly what it is; normal, and "worst" it does is make jokes about straight people not wanting to look gay (which is worthy of playful mockery - who cares if you look gay?) other than that, it's just simple stereotype jokes (which aren't at all hateful), metaphorical scenes (characters of the same sex have a conversation that makes them sound married/dating/divorced/broken up) and at least one subversion/parody. I'd even say that with shows like Friends around in many of our childhoods or at least from when we were younger (I started watching around 2005/2006) that I am surprised homophobia still exists, due to how "normalized" being gay was (even though it *is* normal) within the show, and how the overall vibe was it doesn't and shouldn't matter.
