i see "dead" players wandering around unmarked are a recurring problem. in Poland we usually require all players to have an orange hi-viz vest in their equipment and put them on when they're heading to respawn point. like the one you can buy on any gas station for $2. (not yellow, because it's reserved for event admins) it used to be "a piece of red cloth in visible place on the player" but it led to unnecessary and heated discussion on what is red, how big is a piece of cloth, and where exactly is it visible on you, so now a vest it is.

I second that, orange hi-viz vest is common as "dead player indicator" in Poland and it works very good in that role. I really recommend that solution instead of "red piece of cloth" or "hand in the air".

Owning a 3d printer is not the barrier into 3d printing. The barrier is CAD. I know many people who have top-of-the-range 3d printers but can only print pokemon downloaded from thingiverse, there are also people with a dirt-cheap 3d printer who can produce precision machine parts. Unlike many other areas, there is no 'killer app' yet in the CAD world that can get someone new to printing on the way to producing high quality parts - there is either fully featured software that needs a degree in engineering to understand, or there is kid-aimed programs that only let you build out of virtual lego bricks or minecraft blocks.
