@@Ouralbleu1 As stated above the way Morgan installed his water lines it would take a very long, as in months long, very deep freeze to freeze his lines. The wait is for the water to rise up the 6+ feet from the main line to the spigot.

Where he lives, he's at no risk of his water line freezing - it's buried so deep under ground (6ft or more) it would take many months for it to freeze... much longer than a winter. The delay is just the length of time it takes for the water to travel upwards from so far underground. I think he did the relieved thumbs up for show - he's mentioned that his well can never freeze.

I have seven geese, but two are special pets. Pete and Friend (names) are gentle sweet personalities. No mean biting, just very gentle nibbling . But they get handled, hugged and loved on A lot.

@@lorin4 yep, geese don't like strangers. They guard and protect their territory. Pete & Friend don't care that my two little dogs follow me around. But my other five use to try pinch them. Now they sorta ignore. If a stranger dog or person went in fenced area a lot of hissing and flapping might happen. Now I do try to spend a lot of time training them which is not what most people have time to do. I want mine to not attack visitors. Pete & Friend went to visit vet, they were very well behaved. The vet tech mentioned how sweet their personalities, had same thoughts that all geese are mean. Pete even talks to me, we have funny conversations, his different sounds have meaning. Pete & Friend are Toulouse geese, I love them. My ebdens are a little more protective, Strangers beware!

I raise my backyard silkies and 5 years ago I found the cutest chihuahua mix, Coby lee. I have coby with me every day around the birds. I wanted him to feel save around them and no bites never happened. Now 5 yrs later and Coby loves the birds and I noticed my lil flock tends to stay close to Coby while loose in the yard. While I wasn’t creating a guardian I just want him to not fear my lil dinosaurs. My hens don’t mind he gets close to the chicks, he loves the baby’s and he is so calm with them, even while they pick at him. A few years ago I had to come in the house real fast and when I got back outside Coby was just laying in the sun surrounded by chicks, while the mom went off to pick something good. Every now and then I’ll have a hen try to snuggle up to coby or try to pick thru his fur but Coby doesn’t seemed bothered by them. I saw how well it was going and started to teach him to herd them back in the pen or into the coop.

We have chickens and a beagle with a similar story. Since he’s a hound, he’s very food motivated, and likes mealworms, bread, most of the treats we give to the chickens. So whenever the chickens hang out with him, when he starts sniffing and eating something, they all have been conditioned to run over and check out what he’s snarfing. And when we bought our recent batch of chicks, he would just watch them with love and hang out with them and boop them with his snout.

Toby is the alpha in the barnyard and the geese etc are part of his pack. So even if they nip at him, he won't always bother with correcting them. He knows they sometimes act out, maybe even challenge him, but he also knows they respect him and know their place. Because if he DOES say 'no', he just gives them "The Look" and they stop or move away; all Alphas, whether a horse or a dog, have this ability. Also, he's more protective of the chickens because he knows they are smaller and generally not as aggressive as the geese -but they know The Look too. And one reason Toby is so calm, cool and collected, is because he has a job. Working dog breeds are so happy when they have a job to do; and he's a perfect example of that. If you put a dog like him in a house or a condo, he'd be miserable. Sometimes dogs act out when they get like that, maybe barking a lot, chewing on your couch, raiding the trash, digging etc-all kinds of negative and even neurotic behavior. That's why you research a breed before you commit to one. He is so calm and happy simply because he's a working breed, doing what nature intended him to do-work!

We're in Dallas, and during the Texas Deep Freeze last week there were several nights where it got down very close to 0°F, and we don't have a barn. We just have a raised coop with a nice big run for our chickens. Our guard goose, Oz, however, had to come in the house for a few nights. I adore Oz, don't get me wrong, but geese do not make good housepets, no matter how good you think George is... In the morning, our kitchen looked like a paintball war zone. I never could stop my mom from giving him a "bedtime snack" of a big bunch of kale. Thank goodness I have tile floors.

Yep last week was miserable, I am in Minnesota, it got down to neg 21f here. I keep my ducks and geese in big hoop style movable shelter at night. Because of eagles, great horned owl and dozens of hungery coyotes (need a Toby dog). Your goose would have been fine with a wind block like a dog- goose house to sleep in. Deep straw bedding is what I use for everyone to snuggle in to sleep. My crazy geese and even some of the ducks love sitting out in freezing cold even bathing if it's not too windy. Since normal chores requires two visits each day. I am a wimp in the cold, so the worst days everyone had to stay in hoop house. Because I only coming out once feed & water. But them geese sure wanted to go out in the freezing cold.

Last year my neighbor got two LGD's for her less than one acre pasture full of goats. She also has chickens, ducks and turkeys. Last year her two LGD's killed 30 of her chickens in one day. I also have chickens, ducks and geese and the only thing separating her LGD's from my place is a hog wire fence. IF they ever get out of or through that fence and attack my birds, all hell will break loose around here and I'm afraid my neighbors will not like me anymore.

I had a dog like that- he wasn't a LGD, just a Whippet cross- but he did the same thing if I said with disappointment or in that accusatory tone: "What did you do? Were you a bad boy?" and his ears would go flat, his eyes would look like he was getting ready to cry....And of course he hadn't done anything, but just my tone put him on a guilt trip! He passed away in March; best dog I ever had!

When the ganders want to attack me, my farm dog, an English Shepard, otherwise known around here as a bear-wolf, nic named Tornado, has a fit. No way can I bring her into the goose pasture during breeding season as she would surely defend me. However, she is great with our flock of chickens. I did have to teach her that the roosters were not hurting the hens. Toby is perfect for his job and farm!

We have mallards nest in our back garden every year. My pitbull learned quickly not to chase them and it became common for find her asleep in the sun a couple feet from momma duck sitting in her nest. She has also been trained to chase geese at our church back onto the neighboring property, and eventually the geese would fly off when they saw my car, she didn't even have to get out😏🐾🐾

Belive it or not, our Jack Russell has become a guardian livestock dog for our small flock of 12 chickens. It's amazing since I didn't expect him to take that protective stance! He can see hawks and big birds, barks and chases them. He goes out throughout the night, barks walks around and will wake me if something is wrong. Our rooster even knows certain barks and will usher the girls away somewhere safe. I'm beyond proud of him, and even more proud of Toby dog ❤

When I had a flock of chickens and ducks, I had a black labrador. She became very protective of my birds, she wouldn't even let the neighbors dog on my yard. She would run him off by attacking him and chase him all the way to his yard. I remember her having puppies and the ducks would sometime sleep with them. By the way my chickens were game fowl, they weren't the nicest birds. But they seemed to get along with my dog.

Greetings from Taiwan! I've been watching your videos for sometime now, and really love them. Toby is such as good boy! My family also has a small farm, so I like to share my experience. Warning: long post We have 1 dog, 2 geese, and 3 chickens. We got our dog first, she was a stray we found near the farm, so she didn't grow up around the birds. We only got the birds about 2 years ago. The chickens has to live in a fenced-in area on the farm, since our dog thinks they're food. The geese has 2 fenced areas that they rotate between, and we only let them out to eat grass outside the fence when we are at the farm so we can keep an eye on them, since we weren't sure how the dog will respond to them. For the first few months, our dog has been quite smart about avoiding the geese. The geese has bitten her on the butt a few times, but she usually just walks away. But in the past couple of weeks, every time the dog is in proximity to them, the gander will initiate a fight, resulting in the dog biting him on the neck. She hasn't bite down, but it was a scary sight. We thought that mating season was coming up, which would explain the change in behavior. And surprise surprise, we found 3 goose eggs last week, so now we keep the dog and geese completely separate, at least until the season ends. If we were to do this over again, we would definitely get our animals starting from the lowest on the pecking order: chicken, geese, then dog.

Toby dog is so great! All 7 of my rescue dogs do well with my ducks, chickens, goats, cows, sheep and 1 horse. I used the tether method.

I wish more people would put as much thought even into getting a pet than just going for the first cute puppy they see on the internet. You did your homework and you got an AWESOME dog that is PERFECT for your situation. And on top of it, with the DNA test you did, you know you have a healthy dog too. I can't say enough good things about this sound advise!

Puppy Toby would make anyone want a puppy lol. He was so so cute and is a beautiful adult now. Your winter weather got drunk and ended up in Missouri. I was having to haul water 3 times a day to all the chickens and ducks in negative Temps for over a week. I have no idea how you do it for the whole winter. It was not a good time. I could not wait for this week. Today we are back up to 50 degrees. And I am so happy about it. I dont even care that there is a foot of mud to walk through to go do chores. So you need to keep your winter weather in Vermont lol. Now everytime I see you out there I feel so bad for you. So stay safe and try to stay warm. Big hugs.

Lmao, Toby is eating the duck's supplement veggies. Maybe start to test to see what kind of vegetables/fruits Toby will eat so you can set aside duck's portion or extra portion for just Toby.

Our old dog used to love carrots and cherry tomatoes. She knew she wasn't allowed in the garden but she would plant her feet right at the edge and lean in to grab any ripe cherry tomatoes on the edge. She was such a sweetie though and we had so many that we didn't mind her...workaround of the rule.

I really love the Toby dog, and I'm inspired by your channel to start a homestead someday. I have a great pyranees (similar breed) and he's one of the sweetest dogs on the planet. We got him as a watch dog for our small pups because we have a large number of coyotes and some bobcats around here that can eat them. Thanks for posting this vid, I love your channel.
