During summer, when I was home (I’m a teacher), our cocker puppy was so happy. Once school started, though, he would wail & scratch the door when we left. I couldn’t stand the guilt, so we finally decided to get him a companion-that was the best decision ever made. The two of them are best friends, and no more whining. They play & chase each other all the time.

Mine would bark for hours on end. When I got home his chest was soaked from slobber. High anxiety. He was a rescue.

Having issues with my 9month old. I am trying to get him use to me working at home, but he thinks just because I am sitting at the desk that my lap and computer are fare game for play time. Suggestions??

It gets better with time. Our working cocker is 19 months now and she will rest happily in the same room as us without pestering. That is of course after a long walk and a bit of playtime in the garden. In other words her exercise needs have been met and she knows the daily routine. I don’t remember now at what age she calmed down, but I do remember her being pretty manic when she was younger. We don’t have a crate, but she sleeps in the laundry room. We divide that off with a child gate. So, when she was too lively as a puppy, we would effectively crate her in there. That worked to calm her down when necessary. Now though she is generally well behaved. Good luck.

I would find a place you can put your puppy away from you for a hour or so to rest as they need to be taught how to rest and settle maybe get a kong with food and a bed and say bed with the kong and say stay that way they know it’s time out to rest away from you it put them in the kitchen for a while cocker spaniels are not fully adults until they become 2 x

We started leaving him for short periods as a puppy , we use to leave him in a crate then a 5 hour hospital appointment left me feeling really guilty as he sleeps in his large crate at night so we decided to let him have the run of the house for the 2 hours the house is empty in the morning & the 3 hours in the afternoon so he can go & lay with our cats upstairs if he chooses , We don't leave anything of ours such as shoes or slippers out because he probably will chew them so we don't want to set him up to fail although as a puppy I would leave a shoe so I could let him know this is my stuff , he knows the words MY STUFF doesn't & hasn't touched anything . We did record him to see if we would have issue's , he cried about 5 mins then ran to his learning toys with treats in , they are very intelligent dogs perseverance and training never stops , I use as many commands as I can continually on a 2 to 3 hour walk daily and it pays off every time .

@@vineetv I leave my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel at home for about 10 hours. I take her out in the morning before I leave. I also leave a pee pad and food and water for her. Then I'll come back and she's fine.
