I've just bought this Omega and I'm glad I did. I love it! Rolex is being so direspectful with all the waiting lists and the removal of plastic by the salespersons when you buy one before you leave. It is so insulting because when I pay for something it becomes mine. PERIOD! Not everyone is looking to make triple of what they have paid for a watch ( which Rolex can stop easily by the way but they like to play hard to get) . You lost me for good Rolex. So much respect for Omega!!!

@@doom9863 In comparison rolex build and material quality is like a kids watch - Daytona is the worst watch ever it is so tiny that it looks good only on my girlfriend petite wrist (honestly 40mm rolex watches are for girls wrist even copies in China are available in 42mm version cuz they understand market), everything is so silver and not easy readable and selling luxury mechanical watch without bottom sapphire to look how mechanism inside works should be a crime and last but not last the quality of etching and letters is from few decades ago now Chinese can do so simple things better.

I gets me the respect that deserve. Only Patek and Lange make a better chronograph than Daytona. I wear my Invicta Submariner homage when collecting the weekly rent from my low income apts Those bloody savages would sever my arm to take my Rolex directly to the pawn shop. Toodles. Just kidding. The Speedmaster Racing was introduced it in 1957. This chronograph was made to measure intervals by scientists, engineers, athletes, but also by racecar drivers. The Speedmaster was the first watch ever to have a tachymeter scale outside the dial, on a bezel. In the very first advertisements of the Speedmaster, we find two men sitting in a sports car, implying they’re using the chronograph to time laps or measure average speed using the tachymeter scale.

I've realised that the music used to correspond to the table used. Check the old videos. They have three tables: - dark wood - light wood - white table Previously, each table used a different song. But recently they've been mixing it up a bit. They seem to use the same song for each alange review.

On top of that, the Omega has the better movement, it is certainly comparable, so to me it's a no-brainer, unless off course you simply like to have the Daytona.

I believe that the Daytona retails for $12,400, not the $18K that you stated. Go to most reputable AD's, put down a deposit, put your name on the list, and wait. When I bought my Sub no-date, they said I'd have to pay full retail $7,400, and wait perhaps 6 weeks for Rolex to send one out to them. My watch arrived in 3 days! This example may give credence to the theory that Rolex is gaming its customers to spike demand, and prices from non ADs. What do you guys think?

@@davidofglenbrook4487 ok I didn't know the Omega was that expensive. Fair to say though, that the Rolex can't be bought at retail. On Chrono 24 they go for 18000 and more. So the Rolex is twice the price of the Omega. Still far too expensive I think. Another issue is, how well they retain their value... Hard to say, but I think the Rolex will hold his value better, but only time can tell.

As a owner of both Rolex and Omega, I find myself enjoying Omega more now. There is something fresh and interesting about an Omega that I'm not getting from Rolex and I think it maybe the Omega dials. My last Rolex purchase was the polarizing Air King 11690, because of the use of color on the dial. I feel the same way with my vintage watches I'm starting to lean Omega over Rolex.

The Swiss Made branding has a lot of restriction, both the movement and the watch itself need to be at least 60% Swiss, as well as a whole load of other requirements. Go read up on it instead of trusting morons on a forum that talk out of their asses. It would be illegal for Omega to sell a watch that's mostly made from Chinese parts. But Omega uses higher standards than that for itself and while some less relevant parts can be made in China, I can tell you it's well beyond the requirements for Swiss Made.

Had a submariner and had to reset the time every 2 days. Had it serviced and it still gained time and had to reset it. Eventually I had enough and sold it to a family member. I’ve bought the new seamaster to be fair I’ve reset it twice in a year and that’s when we entered summer time and winter

@@Ajayharrysimon Omega's has their sapphire caseback so you can actually see the movement, Rolex doesn't. Most Omega's movement are METAS certified, they may claim they have an accuracy of 0/+5 seconds a day, I've seen some owners said that it's more accurate than that. And while I agree on the bracelet thing, they actually has strap options, Rolex? Not so sure. And guess what, some of their models have MUCH higher quality in finishing and materials. I love both brands respectively, but even if money wasn't an issue, I can actually just buy Omega because their watches is actually AVAILABLE. I absolutely do not support grey markets that sells a Rolexes twice it's actual price. But sure, free to be a Omega hater if you like.

This may sound really odd but my biggest issue with modern Daytona’s is the sub dials at 3 and 9 being slightly higher (they used to be centered with the markers). The speedmaster sub dials are centered. I personally think the speedmaster is the better looking of the two.

If all things truly were equal - including price, resale value, and availability - I’d buy the Omega. I love the Co-Axial escapement and the fact that it’s on display, the anti-magnetic properties, the dual anti-reflective coating, and the date complication. That’s just me, though. Both are amazing timepieces.

I went through this EXACT dilemma.. ended up going with the speedmaster. Found a used one for 4,750$ with full box/papers and 3 oem straps (full stainless, leather w/ deployant, and omega nato). I couldn’t be happier... it’s a beast of a watch at 44.25mm but I have a 7 3/4” wrist so it works for me. All said and done I got about 9,300$ worth of omega for half that and it’s not even a year old! This was my first luxury watch purchase

History did change a little. Currently very difficult to find this Omega Speedmaster racing at your nearest AD. Omega also currently only offering to sign you up for their waiting list. This speedmaster is one of my favorite watches. I wear it daily - it has easy to use non screwed down chrono pushers (unlike my breitling b01), a date (unlike the daytona, which is pretty bad considering date is used for the name...) and it has a better bracelet than the daytona with on the fly micro adjusting capability in the clasp. I have to say it feels pretty good wearing a watch that is getting harder to get, so I know how Rolex owners feel ;)

I've got both a Speedmaster Triple Date and three Rolexes. Both the Omega and Rolexes are very accurate, slight edge to the Rolexes -- probably because the Rolexes aren't chronographs (Explorer II, GMT Master II and Datejust).

I have this Speedmaster Racing. Nothing against the Moonwatch (I respect it and understand it's appeal), but I, personally, like this racing even better. They say get the watch that makes you happy. This just does it for me. You have to see it in person and put it on your wrist. It wears smaller than the size suggests. It is so beautiful, you cannot appreciate it in pictures. And of course, the technology. And I like to have the date. The Rolex bezel has the Tachymeter markings cut out but not filled flush. That means they can get clogged with dust and such. I'd agree the Zenith has the edge in horological heritage, no doubts about that, their movement(s) are amazing. But in terms of motorsports heritage, Tag Heuer is not one to be snubbed. Personally I'd have a Caliber 18

Had the Daytona before they were hot (even got a discount). Wore way too small and traded it back to my dealer for a TT Sub. It really wears like a unisex sized watch and why so many ladies wear the Daytona. Today the Omega movement is much better than the Rolex chronograph movement in every technical way. The Daytona movement is nothing special and might even be considered “outdated” and Lott;e know fact that the markers are actually wrong on the Daytona. Daytona owners don’t seem to care about these shortcomings and I would bet they don’t even know how to use a tachometer. The crown is really the most important feature and why the Daytona’s bragging rights are what their owners are really after.

When push comes to shove, I will go with a Longines Hydroconquest Automatic Chronograph ( blue dial) over, its sister, the Omega Speedmaster - more bang for the buck! When it comes to the Daytona, I will go with the classic Zenith movement. The problem with Rolex: too many fakes; plus, Rolex is way overrated!

I really like the Moonwatch and its heritage but it’s basically splash resistant. I was advised against using it for swimming. Tha Daytona at least is waterproof to 100 meters.

I have just begun to look at the 44mm Omega Speedmaster Racing (not the ugly and cheapened 39mm version). The price is not yet consistent with my financial priorities, but I would choose it over the Daytona hands down. To me, it looks more handsome and interesting. I like how the hour-minute combo sub-dial leaves plenty of room for a tidy date window, which I value. I prefer the look of the funnel sub-dial bezels. I value the co-axial movement. I prefer the spiral finishing on the back of the movement. And I like that it does not bear the logo that is prized by the big-hat-no-cattle crowd. Save a few thousand while signaling greater individuality.

Watch snobs will pay when it finally burst. Resell value should never be a factor when buying a watch. @@m.p.2482 Many watch dealers concede that no luxury company does more to maintain value post sale like Rolex. The strategy is that a Rolex isn't EVER sold at much of a discount secondhand so many just buy new, but if Omega is going to dump new stock on the grey market they'll never compete. Also, if you're dropping THOUSANDS of $ on a damn wristwatch, its an investment, now whether its a good or bad one remains to be seen!

The Daytona is, even for an Omega fan like me, a really nice and iconic watch... But here is the thing: If I look closer on the proportions from the Daytona, I like the bezel to dial ratio not that much. For such a small watch, the ceramic bezel is a little too wide for my taste. And all the text on the dial is also not for me. Next point is, I'm a 6'4' guy and on my wrist, the Rolex is looking just that bit too small. I'm not that guy that needs a 46mm watch on my wrist, 42mm is fine for me, but if a watch is compact from lug to lug like this Omega, then 44mm are very comfy. So for me, the Omega Speedmaster Racing is spot on. Perfect dial to bezel ratio, better size, fewer text on the dial, stunnig dial texture and on top of that, a killer movement. I don't care for the history of the Daytona anymore. Omega built my dreamwatch with this piece. Or should I say, Omega built a chronograph for bigger wrists, for which some Rolex fans are still waiting? I bought it last year, fair price and could't care less about the "investment" talk. I'm just a watchfan, so I am looking for, how much watch do I get for my money. And this Speedy is a hell of a watch!

I own the Speedy Racing white dial and I gotta say, it’s one of my favorite watches. The stunning white dial has a granular texture to it, somewhat resembling that of the moon. I am not feeding into Rolex’s game and kissing an AD’s arse for 5 years to buy one. Omega FTW!

Omega could greatly close the gap between the daytona and the speedmaster simply by decreasing the size and thickness of their cases. I fear that their fetish for oversized chronographs is too strong to overcome.

This watch doesn't feel like a 44.25mm at all, it more feels like a 42mm. It wears very small, I would say try one on and you wouldn't regret it.

Not everybody is fool enough to chase after a product the company doesn't want to sell to you. I love my Rolex Submariner. Got very lucky being able to buy it at retail, but would never pay the inflated aftermarket prices for one. The technology of a speedmaster is much more impressive than that of the Daytona, and i appreciate that more than the fact that, "not everyone can buy a daytona".

Rolex is too small of a watch if your going to use it for capturing time of a race, etc. A larger face makes it easier to follow and read the time

I personally think the SM already did beat the Dytona. Beating means outselling and the SM already does this (Personal opinion) . Demand does not necessarily mean sales (especially with the Dytona) . There are more people who can afford a SM and not everyone can afford a 10k+ watch (in my country more people have the Omega than the Rolex) . BTW i own a Dytona (which i got when i was single, and could still be seen multiple times in the window of our local AD) i still have the SM itch ......... that being said and having a family now, i cannot scratch that itch because .......The Wife.

I’m surprised no one notices the poor finishing on the omega hands and their print. This is one of the reasons for the price difference. Check out the tight focus shots and the finishing on the hands and dial. It’s why Rolex charge more than omega. And take it a stage further it’s why patek philippe charge more than Rolex.

The watches we wear are quite a projection of ourselves. The Daytona didn't sell until they named it so and Paul Newman started wearing one, and it kept selling through the late eighties and beyond because it had a sporty touch to its luxury, which made it attractive to yuppies and the like. They wanted themselves to be seen as rich yet sporty. So do lots of people. The Speedmaster made it to the Moon and that has been its main selling point since ever. People who buy it do it because they want to wear a piece of history and feel part of it. And if you don't wear a watch but depend on your cell phone for learning the time of the day, well, that's a projection too. It all turns around the kind of cell phone you use. Just an opinion.

Speedmaster pro is for the moon nerds and is manual wind. Speedmaster 57 is more of a dress watch with motor racing heritage and manual wind. Speedmaster racing is a true motor racing heritage watch with self winding

Personally, my eyes are telling that 1v1, the Omega is superior in every way. Its more legible with better contrast, more uniform, the dial is less cluttered. About the only aspect where the Rolex visibly looks nicer is the bracelet. My personal opinion of course.

Unfortunately, the automatic Speedmaster is with it's 44,25mm diameter a little too big for an average wrist like mine, the Rolex and the "standard" mechanical wound Speedy is perfect in size. But Omega is not doing a lot with it's smaller case Speedy and is "only" offering it as a manual wound watch with the standard black dial...

Csanad Barczy Apple products are the most secure and scalable product. Okay I wouldn’t talk about tech it’s boring enough for my daily job. Rolex is where it is due to its marketing in the 60s and also being the first to have a watch going deep under with the sea dweller and the deep sea. Of course it’s submariner and the first company to make a mechanical watch waterproofed. These build it’s solid foundation and people love following the trend and here we are Rolex where it is today. If you understand technology Apple is at the TOP of the food chain. Android with all its gimmicks till date cannot plug the hole on security. A easy search on Google allows you access to any android devices including Samsung no matter how flashy it’s “security” is termed. Sometimes this involves economics a term called macroeconomic where individuals have to decide whether it is sensible to buy a product and also for the company to price it in a way it feels it deserves. Sure Rolex can be made within a thousand dollars maybe but will it have the touch, craftsmanship? Probably not. Why? It is a highly recognised brand and employees would want highly salary and everything would probably cost more just like for Apple.
