Yeah... I think her not living in an islamic country makes it even more okay, because then I am sure this is her choice. What I hate is when some old men, usually in power, tell women what to do with their bodies and threaten to punish or shun them for it, which is why I was partially opposed to hijabs, niqabs, etc, because in some islamic countries that's how it is. But if it's a choice, even if it's a "false choice", where you're indoctrinated from birth to the point where OBVIOUSLY you will want to do that, who am I to tell them they can't, even though I believe a head veil would be sufficient? One could just as well come up to a Christian, rip a cross straight from their necks and throw it into the trash can, or smash the Jesus and Mary figurines in their house "because Bible says not to worship those". It's just... Bad to do that??? Not necessarily because we are wrong, but because it would be harassment.

Devi Zakura but wearing a cross is not covering ones identity, in this world we live, with all the crime, pedophiles, terror attacks, I think, for everyone own safety, we all need to be identifiable. I am not adopting this belief because I am being a racist, not at all. When a person is covered from head to toe , to the point one can only see two eyes it’s scary. Scary because there has already been men dressing up in niqab dress and committed crimes !

I am a niqabi, Alhamdulillah. I have been wearing a niqab for few years now but unfortunately due to some slack on my part as well as the advent of COVID-19, I replaced the niqab with only mask which was actually okay for most of the time except when I had to eat,drink etc. By the will of Allah, I came across this video, and after watching few videos I actually revisited my old feelings which I had when I used to read niqabi bloggers' posts. Those blogs were a huge help in boosting me up when I made the decision to wear a niqab for my whole life ( ofcourse except security checks, etc.) and when I was unsure but Alhamdulillah I persisted and it had become a part of my life. I have started wearing niqab with mask now. Today I went to relatives' place for some celebration. I ate dinner in niqab because namehrams were present and I spilled some liquid food stuff on my abaya. I was so embarrassed since I already stood out due to my actions of eating with niqab and this accident happened. I got over the embarrassement soon though 😄

This is very interesting! I'll admit that I never once thought about this. I guess I just envisioned women in niqabs taking off their veil at home when they ate (I don't eat out much 😄). For the people criticizing her, of course she doesn't HAVE to wear it, but to me (and I'm an atheist, no skin in the game) it's no different than being interested in how astronauts, or someone with a gastric bag go about eating. Also on a purely aesthetic level with all connotations being removed, niqabs are kind of cool. Imo of course.

My only issue I have with wearing a burqa, niqab or even a hijab - why do only women wear it? Men and women should be equal and should BOTH show "modesty". So don't talk to me about equality and "a choice" when in Germany (where I live) in summer women are completely covered and their husbands literally barely wearing anything.

Islam clearly teaches both MEN and women to dress modestly. In Islam even men aren't allowed to reveal their body.
@ICeyCeR3Al6 жыл бұрын
+cute cakes Not really. Men only wear 2 towels during Umrah LOL. During one of the most noble rituals of Islam, men are practically half naked. In the end i feel its more truly regarded by the majority as the moral standard for Muslims. Not so much because the Quran has dictated such. And even if the Quran dictates something, it does not imply you must strictly and obsessively follow it. The disparity and bias built by cultures has sorta bent Islam awkwardly throughout the world imo. But that's a whole other topic. By human nature, it is simply not possible to have your entire life decided at birth. Islam has realized this and made many exceptions including the freedom of wearing what clothes you want. But your intentions must be clear and in the path of Islam. Obviously if you are purposely dressing inappropriately that contradict the standard defined by your religious beliefs then your intentions are elsewhere.

Everyone has their own interpretation of modesty in my family we are supposed to cover with the exception of face hands and feet, we wear it as a symbol of our religion kind of like representing it also some muslim women wear to not to be seen as super super attractive by showing skin but by knowing us as who we are and in my family my dad and brother cant wear shorts that are short it has to be over the knees but they can show there stomach bc they necessarily dont have a "chest" but everyone expresses islam differently so you cant really say" oh I saw this muslim family not wearing the scarf how come you are?!" I don’t worry about eating outside. The reason is, me and my husband quit dining out couple years ago when we read one Hadith meaning eating outside is indecency. We bring it home and eat at home and surprisingly my kids got used to this habit too and even if we offer them to eat outside, they say no , lets take it home. Not judging, just telling my own habits.

Assalamu aleykum everyone. I hope you will not find offense in my questions. I am genuinely, respectfully interested in niqab and i hope i can share these questions i have. 1) is niqab to cover your beauty from the public? 2) as i started reading more about islam, i became more self conscious about people looking at me, while many times it was not the case. It had a negative effect on me. I wanted to avoid public spaces because of the feeling people “would watch me” with wrong intentions. But, that was of course not (always) true. Does wearing niqab increase this idea people are there to look at you? Because people really mind their own business most of the time. 3) does niqab not draw more attention to you than not wearing it? (in the west at least) wouldnt that be the opposite of what your intention is? 4) in my understanding of Quran, face and hands may be shown. So why take the extra step? I have always had these questions and unfortunately havent had the opportunity to ask a niqabi in person. Reminder: im not judging or having negative intentions towards any niqabi lady. I hope someone will answer these questions to help me in understanding. Ps: thanks for answering my food question with this very cool video! :)

Taught myself via youtube tutorials on how to wear a hijab without pins, and actually I am quite comfortable with it. The minute I get home I take it off of course lol. Immanuel Kant Immanuel Kant Yes, we are in the 21st century and things have changed but there are people who don't accept that change. No matter what we do there will always be someone who is killed/terrorized by being different or choose to change what they do. Someone who doesn't dress like her today who goes through the transitioning to look like her or who seems straight today but is actually gay and comes out can be killed. When you're strong you can live with the consequences about what may or may not happen in the future for yourself. & That's the other side of the world, there are women who leave their country to be more free to do what they want with themselves and others who leave and feel free from not taking off the niqab. Its a choice to wear it like that. No matter where you go you can get hurt looking a certain way cause while some women get killed taking it off on the other side of the world, those women can still get killed by not taking it off on this side of the world. Does that mean that they should just continue doing they're told to make others happy?

For those of you judging her and telling her to stop wearing it, do you really have an issue with the niqab itself? Or do you have an issue with the people who tell women what they can and can't wear? If it's the second thing that bugs you, then you're a hypocrite. Because that's *exactly* what you're doing. How about we just let women wear whatever they want to wear?

I understand the need for modesty. But In a restaurant with many other women baring their faces. It’s no longer modesty as much as oppression for that specific woman wearing this. Now if you’re in a restaurant where all the women are dressed as you are then I completely understand the thoughts and the modesty behind this. Im not trying to start a fight or a debate. But I thought I could put my two cents worth in on this in hopes that you might read it and at least understand my thought process. At the end of the day. You do you boo.

Elizabeth Fuhr Thank you for your comment and especially the respectful tone. I dont see it alot around here :D I dont feel it oppression cos I chose it myself. It would be different if someone forced me to wear it. I have wanted to wear it for years and in my previous marriage I wasnt allowed to. Thank God now I have worn it over 5 years. But I like a decent conversation about the topic and I like to hear peoples thoughts as long as they are done in respect :)

Stella Anon honestly, I don't find covering your face modest, it's what criminals do, and how are you unique, how can we identify you and everything that makes you you is covered
@ashleyhendrikson17386 жыл бұрын
Jazzy422 D There’s something called having a personality & character. Your look isn’t want makes you necessarily unique. It’s something that’s personal & everyone should be able to choose how they want to express it. If you want to go out with a full face of makeup, do it. If she wants to cover up, she can do it. Why can’t everyone do what they want to do for themselves if it makes them happy?
@stellaanon98416 жыл бұрын
Ashley Hendrikson Because that is a disguise and thus a SECURITY risk to everyone else! It is not the same as wearing makeup at all... these people are completely shrouded and unidentifiable to others. This is NOT modesty, this is being in disguise!

@@christirivera36 Nothing would happen if you don't wear it. Woman can make a choice if she wants to wear niqab or just hijab. God told us to cover our bodys, but even so some woman choose not to wear eather. The is no compulsion in religion. Otherwise the deeds are insincere and thus not accepted. And it is a sin to force something on someone. Regarding what you sad about treating woman. If a man does treat a woman badly it is not reflection of Islam as religion but a reflection of him as a person. Some men don't read the Quran properly. All too often, people read the Koran selectively, taking phrases out of context. People just use it for whatever point they want to make,They come to it with their own ideas and look for verses that confirm what they want to hear. Woman and man both have rights ! So please, if you're so quick to judge about some things you don't know, than try reading Quran. You would see not everything is like you think it is....

The privacy issue is that it forces people to see me as a person rather than looks and to look at my character first. Niqabi Nextdoor woah, woah, sis. I don’t care if you decide to wear the niqab and I certainly won’t criticize you for it. But please do not put niqab and feminism in the same sentence, as the first is an element of oppression in itself wether you and other women decide to use it for themselves or not. There are millions of women who are forced to wear them by law facing terrible punishments if they are seen even without the gloves. When no law of any country dictates how a woman has to dress, then yes you can tell me niqab is the same as other clothes, but until then it is a symbol of oppression
