This Dastaar that we wear has been blessed to us by the Tenth Master, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Sahib Ji Maharaaj. This is our crown 👑. We should always respect our turban, as it makes us stand out and it represents who we are. We should never forget the Shaheed Singhs and Singhnia who sacrificed their lives for the Dastaar. ❤ Thank you Basics of Sikhi for this informative and helpful video. nah this all bullshit, you can remove your turban long as it is treated with care, in public dont remove it as your hair will get dirty and stuff, but def remove it while sleeping or maybe even at home, sikhi isnt islam, turban is for taking care of your kes it is not a hijab for covering up

Thank you so much for this sister. I have not yet taken Amrit, so I'm still getting used to covering my head. I tie a turban using long scarves I already have. When I sleep, I unwrap my turban and pin my hair up, but I haven't gotten to covering my head at night yet. On my days at home, I pin up my hair and wear a scarf as a chunni. There's no Gurdwara here, and there's so much watered down, confused info on the internet about Sikhi - I rely on BoS for correct guidance based on Gurbani. Thank you so much for your service to the Panth!

At the night, earlier i also didn't use to cover my head.... but now i cover my head with a small patka and tie it lightly .... it is really beneficial as u do path in the bed and directly go to sleep.... dastar is really important for conserving the energy.... Personally as a female dastaar wearer I feel it's important to a Chunni when drying my hair or staying in for the day/evening as our hair needs light and air, our pores need to breathe and traction alopecia can and will happen. I think keski and chunni could have got more of a mention, Sikhi is not a ‘Dastars club.’

My entire family is that of devout sikhs, but nobody is an amritdhari, since all of them are from army and time and again had to take their turban off because they would excercise in scorching heat and their head would ache. Additionally, they do not want to disrespect Guru Sahib ji by not following all his traditions properly, so all men in my family keep their turban/patka tightly wrapped around unless they are in the house, when they tie it in a small bun. My point being since I am a sikh but not an amritdhari is it okay to leave my hair in a ponytail or bun instead of covering it completely ? Or does this apply to all sikhs ?

I saw an interesting article in 'the week' magazine about one of Guru Nanak's descendants who is a finance professional in new york, Vikramaditya Bedi. He also does not wear the Turban as he felt this was only relevant during wartime. Guru Nanak wore a topi, not a Turban as incorrectly depicted in most images so I doubt he also grew out his hair. I suppose it should be left as a personal preference rather than a religious mandate.

@@Jujhar_L.F.C I don’t really think so ji. Because many, especially in the west don’t leave the habit of wearing a patka even when they’re adults. The dastaar is just so majestic and Sikhs have always tied one. The patka is nothing but a new phenomenon and it’s completely eaten up the dastaars which is very unfortunate. First, they tie a patka, then bandana or durags which mentioned in the video are not allowed. Also, the quote they gave from Gurbani speaks of tying the dastaar larh by larh, how can one do that with a patka and truly feel a connection with the dastaar? kzbin.info/www/bejne/naasq5l4gqiUmck Video by Gurmat Bibek that enlightened me

First time I've heard of this, I always remove my turban when I change at the gym or am sitting at home with headphones, working, etc. I thought it was only needed to be covered in public. What you're saying here is very impractical and impossible in many scenarios. Sikh practices are simple and practical guidelines, and burning in the "fires of hell" seems like non-sikh theology.

It is one of many ways to take care of your body. In this case it is sikh tradition. To someone either no practicing or more moderate it would seem like an arbitrary of vestigial rule that isnt necessary to take care of your body, and to someone who is practicing the tradition it is fairly important and something they give attention to. Both can be true and okay. For example I am a musician and i think it is important to keep our instruments in tune. Yet most people are not musician and dont own instruments to keep in tune. That doesnt mean they are bad people or that they nees to learn music. It also doesnt mean I will stop tuning my instruments or saying its important and being happy when others do learn.

Even Mata Sahib Devi ji never used Kaur name, even the latest suffix of Devan ji has been very convienienty put with her name simply ridiculing the history just because that is more acceptable to pseudo sikhs than her real name.
