I am fitting a 2 stroke 500cc Honda to s cart much like this one. So far it’s going well. It has a “slap shift” and when it gets in to the power band it’s like a shot of NOS. Good video

I've been wanting to try a gear ration much like the bicycles. Where you have a bigger sprocket as your main drive and a smaller on the axle. The only problem I see is if you go to small on the axle your go-kart will take of slow but, in the long run it will speed up significantly. If you can put a shifting gear mechanism like the mountain bikes on a go-kart that will give you take off and speed.

Doeboyeville Mr731 you were not supposed to change the number of teeth on the front sprocket only the rear.... in doing so you canceled out what you where trying to do.. smaller in the rear will "increase speed" smaller in the front will "decrease speed"

You need to modify the engine so it can pull the higher ratio to a better top speed. Loose the governor and check out go power motorsports for their hp kits .! Love the kart though ;)

Nick W. | PurpGFX As far as I know this sprocket was sold by private party on eBay as used for $10.99 and the only one for #40 chain (1/2 pitch). Other sprockets ranged from 20 tooth to 60+ tooth. Since it was my size (40mm axle) I figured it was a good deal. I'm sure there are lots of sprockets your size on eBay. Good luck sir.

If you want speed, you shouldn't have changed the front sprocket. To put it simply: For more speed, bigger sprocket in the front, smaller in the back For more Torque/Acceleration, smaller sprocket in the front, bigger in the back The back sprocket is what turns the wheels, on everything The front sprocket is what spins the back Faster rotations up front (smaller sprocket) means the back wheels will spin more, but the front sprocket only grabs so much of the chain Quite the opposite for the back, obviously Bigger sprocket, the lower the rotation per minute, Think of it like.. Put your hand on a ceiling fan All the way on the end of the fan blade Now spin it a couple times, without moving your hand from the blade (put a finger on it, and you won't have to grab it to turn the hand) See the speed at which you spin it? Now do the same, bringing your hand to the middle of the fan blade, or even smaller like you are almost right at the fan itself Now spin it. Much faster. Less Acceleration, more top end speed More Acceleration, lower top end speed

I went with smaller sprocket ⚙️ on axle which it gave me a better top speed but my take off from complete stop suffered. Motor had a tougher time gaining speed with that sprocket but once it reached the top speed it was hauling ass.

You don't have much room between those sprockets but you can go a little bit bigger in the front I noticed it was small

The Predator engine doesn't have the torque needed to drive a smaller sprocket. The setup you had was probably using about 95% of the available torque. When you went to the smaller sprocket you were using all the torque the engine could provide netting you just 2mph increase; the smaller sprocket was essentially putting more load on the engine. The sprockets must be matched to the engine. You MIGHT get more top end speed by going to an engine with a shorter stroke designed for higher RPMs (such as a motorcycle engine) and keep the original sprocket setup.

I run a 12 tooth centrifugal clutch sprocket from (tractor supply $69.99) on the engine and a 42 tooth on the live drive axel ($29.99 tractor supply) on my 212 predator engine and hit 60 easy. Do direct drive get rid of the belt drive it's robbing you of power then there your throttle back the screw off some to get more motor. I'm in the middle of a new go kart with a 420 predator engine with full function front and rear suspension. I'm bored with the 212 cc already I'm building one for off road now. The thing about gear ratio's is the more top end you try to get, the less torque you have to push it. It all comes down to how much power your engine has. Find a good balance between top speed and getting a good jump out of the turn.

Just a suggestion when you go to get another 212cc Predator engine make sure you get the Hemi version I noticed you had the 212cc Predator engine but you didn't get the Hemi version they cost the same it will give you a lot more power believe it or not the Hemi version has aluminum valve cover more holes in the pole start and the gas tank has bumps on it that's the one you should be looking for

i race drag mini bikes i weigh 230 lbs and i run a 16 tooth rear axle sprocket with a 17 tooth drive sprocket top speed at 4500 rpm's is 147 mph so when i say weight isnt a factor trust me take off is just like riding a ten speed with a large drive and the smallest axle gear works awesome just need big cohonies to ride

Bigger motor sprocket. It's all about the gear ratio you need to calculate the gear ratio. Low 4s into the 3s will give you more top end but you will lose torque

If you only saw 2 mph difference I think your top speed is drag limited now. The difference in your final drive ratio should have been good for 15mph or more. The taller final drive ratio will create a higher torque load on the helix in your driven pulley and you may not be getting a full shift out from the cvt ......or the taller final drive ratio is just too high to over come the wind drag now and you are not reaching the same engine rpm or as you were with the lower final drive ratio. For more top end with out power mods or a bigger motor you will need more rpm applied to a lower final drive ratio. Your old 12t:53t set up with no governer will probably be your cheapest gain. Try that first because most of the engine kits that offer any real gains will eliminate the governer anyway.

depends on how fast you are trying to go bmi gives you a gear calculator to determine top speed .If your running a 10 tooth 420 chain from torque converter to a 12 tooth start drive then to a 30 tooth then to a 18 tooth axle sprocket 150 mph is around were you will top out at.you will have good exceleration

Vanessa DeLair Thanks for the tip but in real world there are many factors that will make your kart or mini bike go slower than desired for example adult vs a child weight then altitude and terrain. A small sprocket means you’ll get more acceleration but your top speed will be less. Think of it like a pushbike, the lower the gear, The smaller the sprocket, The easier it is to move but you don’t go fast. The higher the gear, the bigger the sprocket, the harder it is to accelerate but your top speed is a lot higher

Take out the govern, bore the carb jet, add a high flow air filter, ditch the muffler and add a straight pipe. That's all the basics without really spending money. If you are willing to spend $, there are racing upgrades you can buy for the engine along with a racing clutch. If fully upgraded, I can see it doing about 80.

Kadespade It's completely stock but no matter how we tweak it, this engine is not made for speed. Two stroke is the way to go but I haven't came across one yet that was in my price range. There are many 80cc engines but 125cc racing go kart engines are just too expensive.
