A little explanation behind the "glass" tube: High frequencies are extremely directional, often times as low as a 30 degree dispersion angle. So for any tweeter, anyone just a little off to the side will clearly hear that the speaker is not pointed at them. The lower the frequencies go, the wider the natural dispersion of the frequencies, so a single bass driver firing down can disperse evenly around the speaker. With the glass tube, it will (theoretically) disperse the high frequencies in a 360 degree radius. Pretty neat idea if you want to evenly disperse sound into a room and have it sound pretty even in all directions. Judging by the performance. I have a feeling that the tube being basically plastic kinda absorbed a lot of the high frequencies instead of dispersing them. My guess would be that glass would perform better.
@YOEL_442 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't a cone pointing to the tweeter do the job just fine, without having to enclose the sound and preventing distortion?
@sabahaddinarslan29272 жыл бұрын
@@YOEL_44 Definitely. Like others have said the whole glass tube tweeter thing is just marketing
@johngogo172 жыл бұрын
@@YOEL_44 Yes and no. You kind of describe a particular type of horn design used for high frequency drivers, by they are still very directional at shorter distances. Typically horns are used to allow for longer throws with decent dispersion. As far as not absorbing the sound like the tube here, you're correct. Now that you mentioned it, I'm curious as to what effect adding holes to the tube would have. Unless the phase cancellation would be a problem, it seems like that would act similar to a horn design and disperse in the way that they are trying to.
@blahorgaslisk77632 жыл бұрын
Making the tube out of glass would make it to heavy to propagate the high frequency sound. But made out of plastic it's not stiff enough instead. There is a reason that tweeters are small and made of extremely light materials. So damned if you do and damned if you don't. The use of a cone held above a tweeter element to spread the sound is a better design. The angled baffles in front of the tweeter is some times called an acoustic lens and have often been used to control the spread of the sound, usually to make it spread horizontally but not as much vertically.

Important thing about LDAC devices on Android. Especially Sony's earbuds and headphones where some people complain about the sound being "boomy" Go into dev settings on your android phone. Scroll down to the LDAC Bluetooth settings and make sure the sample rate and bits per sample match your source. Otherwise your phone or the headphones will try to upsample resulting in worse sound. My XM3's are much tighter and balanced when these settings match my source (deezer hifi so it's 44.1/16)

Sony made a big (1.85 meter) version of this in 2009. It was called "Sountina" model number NSA-PF1. All the "sound-object"-type speakers like the glass panels/paintings work on the bending wave principal. Speakers like that have been around for a long time like the Manger transducer from 1980.
@TrioLOLGamers2 жыл бұрын
Probably but for TVs the idea is not wrong: You put an exciter (that is only a magnet) in an exactly position to move a big surface and you use it like a magneplanar speaker. With this thing you have a cilinder so... If they use the exciter horizontally you wil probably have bad/poor performances and if you use it vertically you have only the top part creating the high frequencies so a waste of energy/space...

The Iwatch is a smart watch, they've been around for years. Th mac is a laptop, the Earpod is a pair of wireless earphones; hardly revolutionary. Just because they popularize a product class doesn't mean that they take risks, especially when they have a fan base that consumes much of what they put out uncritically. Oh wait, they have taken some genuine risks like: Removing the headphone jack (and forcing the industry as a whole to copy them, except Sony). Dude Dan is soo good at these reviews . I feel like he's just talking and saying what he thinks. And it's not a video but a talking piece

nice! new guy! I like the quiet simple style of review, he's also knowledgeable. glad to see lmg getting new blood (yes, I know about the 2 yr wait so he's probably been working there for at least that long)

I thought Dan was a bit dry at first, but then he started trolling the audio crew and he grew on me. :)

It's the small breakdown when Crab Rave stopped playing for me, it's so sudden and outta place from his previous calmness that I couldn't help but laugh

Shoutouts to Dan for being a great on-camera personality as well as doing a sine sweep test on an audio product 👌

This is really fucking cool, and I would love to put up two on my balcony. Can't see myself spending $700 on a product that will inevitably break because of inbuilt battery though.

I like these non main cast host guys. It was informative, interesting, and he wasn't shying away from being harsh about it like the main like hosts. Good stuff.
