Can Stormveil Castle Pass a Real World Safety Inspection?

Huh... Imagine Volcano Manor being inspected. Having made his way through so many blatantly horrific, violation-heavy location, just to find a well maintained, properly guarded mansion. They start to sign off on an acceptible safety inspection only to fall through an illusory wall and quit halfway through inspecting the remainder of the lava-sunken town behind it.

It's so funny to me that Anor Londo had steps specially designed to have big stairs for giants and small stairs for humans but the Lands Between just doesn't bother and the trolls just have to rough it.

I'd argue that the big steps were for the gods. Gwyn was probably pretty huge before he sactriced himself to the first flame. Gwynaverre (or at least Gwyndolyn's memory of her) and Fillianore are both large enough that they'd clearly need those bigger steps.

A lot of real life castle ruins have stairs with no railings. This resulted in movies and games depicting castles with no rails because people thought that’s how it was. In reality, the wooden railings had rotted away after centuries. They also often had wooden roofs or coverings on the walls and walkways. So Stormveil needs more railings and wooden roofs.

I never thought about the wooden staircase into Stormveil until now. A carpenter built that staircase. People chopped down trees, made them into planks, made a staircase all the way down to the landmass below. Clearly they didn't keep that carpenter around with the look of those platforms, must have chucked them off the side or grafted them. Obviously the reason is "give the players an easier side entrance into Stormveil so they don't have to walk through the front door and get annihilated by ballistae" but in universe what purpose does that staircase have for the guards? Walk down to the land below and touch grass?

That way was closed off before enough walls fell. You have to go through a broken wall, cross a narrow ledge along an outer wall, then you come upon the birds and the way into stormveil.

For Anor Londo, the only entrance is through a trap fortress, and you must be picked up by demons who fly you up to the city. That is several safety violations before even getting to the city itself

To be fair, if a large building were to be left in ruins for hundreds of years in real life, it probably wouldn't pass this inspection either. Though that doesn't excuse the lack of guard rails, as some parts of the castle clearly didn't have guard rails even in the past.

5:36 Additionally, if you classify explosive barrels as chemicals, they need to be on a catchpan in case they drip or leak powder. And are you telling me that Godrick doesn't know what a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is? The Exiled Soldiers have a right to know which chemicals they are working around. The barrels may be marked with white paint, but they need to have the proper markings of "high explosive" and probably "oxidizer" on them, because the white paint is an esoteric and non-standardized method of marking danger.
