The band B Sides of the Beast and their singer Raphael Mendes ‪@RaphaelMendesOfficial‬ cover one of my favorite and most epic songs from Iron Maiden’s album, PowerSlave. Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner is a song based on the story by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. This turns out to be one of the best covers of an Iron Maiden song that I have ever heard. If you enjoy our video please like the video and subscribe to our channel. If you have any suggestions for artists you would like to see us react to, please post it in the comments section.
Here is a link to the actually video we just reacted to cover of ‪@ironmaiden‬ - The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

Just like you I'am a big Iron Maiden fan. I discovered also Raphael and just like you I was flabbergasted, never heard someone which voice is so close to Bruce. If I heard it with closed eyes I would believe it was Bruce. Although he is Brazilian he even sing some words with an English accent. Another great cover is from Machine Head, Hallowed be thy name, they turn it in a thrash version. I'm going to see Maiden in July in Amsterdam with the new tour, I can't wait. I've seen them also many times. Up the Irons from the Netherlands, Erwin.

This was 7 months ago, but I just heard and watched it today. Sorry for your loss. I know the pain, and the emptiness of someone missing in your life is still fresh and real. Understandable to feel melancholy, and that desperate need to feel lifted up with music that is meaningful to you. 💝 I was impressed, but also disappointed for the same reasons you were. I appreciate you and the effort you put into admiring this great music we love. Thanks, buddy. 🤘😊💖

Condolences on your loss of a friend. Very well done. He's a great vocalist. I prefer interpretative covers of songs (which I consider to be the greatest element) instead of bands. I think the best Maiden cover is Melanie Mau and Martin Shnella's Wasted Years with Johan Hallgren from Pain Of Salvation lending a great guitar solo. For my money, the best cover ever made is Tuck and Patti's cover of Castles Made of Sand/Little Wing. Really shows that the main thing we lost when Hendrix left us was his great song writing. Scary Pockets is a treasure trove of great covers. Sweet Child of Mine, You Shook Me All Night Long, Walk This Way, Wonderwall....
@flickeringboxofficial

Thank you Randy and I will add your suggestions to the list. I think we are on the same page, I love when an artist takes a song and give it a different composition but still manages to retain the heart and soul of the original. That is such a fine line to walk. As for this cover, I just appreciate the very similar sound in the vocals which is so amazing and quality of their remake.

I'm a huge Rush fan. Around 2018, another online band, called YYNOT, formed with 4 members from across the country. They do absolutely perfect Rush covers, but also now have 3 of their own albums. They started out with a fantastic female vocalist (Rocky). About a year ago she was replaced by another fantastic vocalist and musician, Patty. They now play live.gigs across the country. Check them out. Guitar and bass are perfect. Drums are spot on....vocals are amazing

Oh my....i sees Maiden and i clicks....i agree about the singer not doing the poetry recital. Maybe he felt he couldn't do it justice. "Raiiiin" didn't work either! Steve Harris says he wanted Maiden to emulate Wishbone Ash. Thomas Zwijsen plays an acoustic guitar of whole Maiden albums, with the occasional song with a woman playing violin.

Condolences on the passing of your friend. :( Burch, dude, I had the EXACT same reaction when I first heard Raphael singing Maiden. Heck, every time I listen to him, I'm blown away. The only thing that separates him from Bruce, IMO, is once in a while Raphael's accent comes through. As to you doing reactions to covers, I think its a great idea. There are so many talented musicians on KZbin. You could bring those people to your audience.

Aside from the vocals being otherworldly (think Dickinson in a parallel universe), and the drumming which is also just spot on… the Steve Harris Basslines are unreal!! The reverb, that galloping rhythm, are just so trademark. The guitarist is obviously talented, but when the rest of the cover was almost spot on, his improvisation & taking liberties with Adrian Smith’s playing was certainly baffling, because he sounded good enough to donut correctly. I’m thinking that POSSSIBLY because the spoken word portion during that breakdown, is actually a pre-recorded track, (many legendary British actors/personalities have done audio versions of the entire poem, Richard Burton for instance) directly quoted from the Samuel Taylor Coleridge original poem, there may have been Trademark or Cooyright regulations that prevented the band here from acquiring the rights. That is pure speculation on my part, but I figured, what the hell it’s as plausible as any other possibility. 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

You should give Chez Kane a try, she is a Welsh rocker that makes music that sounds like the 80's. She has released 2 albums Chez Kane (2021) and Powerzone (2022), both recent but could have been recorded between 1984 - 1989 as they have that sound (when music was great). Both albums have 10 songs on each. My favourite songs of hers are;- Rocket on the Radio (from her debut album Chez Kane (2021). Rock You Up (from Powerzone 2022). Children of Tomorrow Gone (from Powerzone 2022). Chez Kane has a KZbin channel. Check them out, if you like 80's style rock you will not be disappointed.
