When I lived in Florida I would fish for the sheepshead around the bridges using fiddler crabs or shrimp. Early and late fall was best time to catch the biggest size. I would use the heads from the shrimp as chum to get them to start really biting. I went to a different style hook which improved my hook ups. One thing about sheepshead you got to stay focused on them to catch them because they hit fast.

@MississippiSalt3 жыл бұрын
I’ll be honest with you I’m not the best at fishing winter time conditions around here. Still learning myself! Most of my fishing is done around ocean springs in Pascagoula. A lot of the fish that stick around in the winter tend too pushed back up into the bays looking for deeper warmer water. Sheepshead handle colder water much better than our other local fish.

@MississippiSalt3 жыл бұрын
I could but I’m trying to limit scaring the fish away from the camera as much as possible. I think a pool noodle would be to big and obvious. I ended up with over 1 hr worth of underwater footage and the bulk of it shows that the sheepshead knew it was there and they were curious about it. I had bo problems getting bites on the bottom. But I only had a couple of bites in view of the camera. Even though they were swimming all around my camera.

Smoked sheephead dip is my favorite food!
@MississippiSalt2 жыл бұрын
I’d love a recipe if you have one!
@hdryder15682 жыл бұрын
@@MississippiSalt I've tried a many different ingredients. But as for the base ingredients I do equal parts of mayonnaise and whipped cream cheese, roughly 1/2cup of each for 1/2pd of fish, 1 tablespoon or preference of fresh squeezed lemon juice, 1/2 decent sized yellow onion, 1 tablespoon dijon mustard, couple teaspoons of horseradish, hot sauce to liking, dill relish to liking, 1/2 teaspoon worcestershire, parsley, pepper and old bay. Mainly the mayonnaise, cream cheese, onion and old bay are the base after that most anything you like that fits works well. I'm from Georgia we love our smoked fish dip but sheephead is the best! Rub the fish down with a little salt and cane sugar and let it sit rubbed over night in the fridge. I prefer pecan wood when smoking fish.
