I had this problem after updating Premier, so the solution is - go to keyboard shortcuts, change the shortcut from "paste to same track" to "paste to target track".

OH MY GOSH THANK YOU! I saw another video and it suggested changing the paste shortcut but that didn't work for me as planned because "paste to target track" doesn't exist in my version of the app

In recent version it will always paste to the same track you copied it from. It helped to know that but ultimately as said above, change shortcut setting to "paste to target track" x

I just wanted to add that if you reassign CMD+V to "Paste To Target Track" and you use it with NO track targeted, the clip will default to pasting to the same track. But the most elegant, as you say, way to do this for me has been Option+click & drag a clip to copy & paste it to whatever track you want. Same as in Photoshop.

Never seem to costs me so much time, or maybe I've never been too much in a rush. But ur vid increased my knowledge and thats great help 👍

@@tisexblack ah, thank you for sharing your method. I used to do that as well. But it can (at least for me) be a little more time consuming if you have a lot in your timeline. I like being able to copy and paste exactly where I want. I am very happy that you found the video to have some new info for you though.
