there was a program called Unlocker i used to use for years with all versions of windows especially windows 7... basically it unlocks any program folder or file from being locked - in use by something... also works with flash drives getting stuck, not unplugging. thank you for sharing. glad to see something that works on newer windows files and is free and legit

Boot using a CD with Linux and delete it in Linux There is an Unlock program, but usually Linux will allow you to delete it If you go to security policy and remove the current owner and add yourself as the owner and change the ownership and give yourself all rights it should allow you to delete it In the old days there were Attributes In DOS you could use Attrib *.* And it would list all files and their attributes When you saw h that was hidden When you saw S it was a system file I remember doing the Attrib *.* -h -s -a And all the files would be able to get deleted Folders also can have attributes and not allow you to delete them It was a problem we saw all the time in the late 80s early 90s

Thanks Brian. There is a reg hack that will add "Take Ownership" to the right-click menu. Once ownership is taken of the file or folder in question, you can then promptly delete it. I do believe taking ownership of a folder or file can also be done within the command prompt; however, I do not know the exact commands.

Nice. Ultra Virus Killer Free also has this Force Delete upon Restart option, but sometimes that doesn't work either. The reason for this is that the upon restart, the file or folder has already become locked again buy another process, usually a Windows Service. What you can try is to go back into UVK and click on Service Manager. Then use the Find Field to search for the file or folder. If found, simply use the option to STOP the service. Then you can delete the folder/file. If you don't find it there then do the same thing but inside Process Manager.

Thank you for the video, awesome. I had a zero byte file inside a file folder, and could not delete the file or remove the directory. When I would try to erase the file, Windows would reply "Can't find the file". The file didn't have a file extension, which must have been the problem. I used del *. at a DOS Prompt, and that deleted the file, and Windows was able to delete the File Folder then.

in the past I have had this problem . I rebooted to safe mode then deleted the folder, this worked.
