Can't Do Push Ups? (JUST TO THIS!)
Push ups are one of those moves that everyone thinks they are entitled to do from their toes, yet so few really do fully correctly.
They are so often not given the respect they deserve.
Push ups are not only a challenging chest, shoulders and tricep exercise, but require more scapular mobility and stability and core strength than we realize.
They are basically a moving plank!
That’s why I want to break down how to modify the push up so you can build up to picture perfect reps from your toes not to mention avoid neck, shoulder, upper back and even LOWER BACK aches and pains.

I couldn’t do even a SINGLE push up. But then I started to hit the gym and concentrate on weight liftings. I did not practice push ups at all. After 3 months of weight liftings, I could do about 13-14 push ups nonstop. I think it was the back muscle workouts that really helped me do push ups. I was just astonished by the mere fact that I could do push-ups. It was amazing!

So many, including the entire medical system, believe loss of muscle is a natural result of aging and is unavoidable. I built more muscle after 65 than I had ever had in my life, through a weightlifting regime. The truth is, muscle loss is a result of a sedentary lifestyle and most people over 65 have a sedentary lifestyle.

Hey guys, if you're struggling to do push ups. One really good tip is to do negatives after your push-up routine. Letting your body slowly descend will help you build strength without you needing to push up. Do it slowly at the end of your workouts. (Start with like 5 secs x 10 sets, then work your way up from there. By adding more time to each set.) Good luck! 💪

I like that you focus on the mind-body connection. I struggle with push-ups, yet plank in yoga perfectly fine. Your reminder that a push-up is a moving plank, and to think of the entire motion from head to heels clicked with me. The pressing through the heels and scapular movement cues are going to be golden for me. Think I’ve been trying to feel the push-up in my arms alone which is why I only can do one. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise with so many! 💕

I’ve been told since I was a kid that I don’t have good form or strength when it comes to upper body exercises and because of that my self esteem is next to zero when it comes to push-ups, and the very thought of doing even one makes me want to sob, but you’re so encouraging and helped to walk through how to do it even on a very steep incline and I feel like I actually have a chance at figuring this thing out for the first time in my life. Thank you 🥰

"I’ve been told since I was a kid that I don’t have good form or strength" You probably didn't, but you were a kid - a blank canvas, if you like, to use a big cliché. People telling you that kept you from actually developing and even though I'm sure of them meant no harm, they still inflicted some. However, the good news is it's never too late to start improving your body so if this video does it for you, then great. As a general rule of thumb, try to take things this way: any exercise is more than no exercise, any improvement is a step forward. And tiny steps is what you should be looking for, not huge leaps. Go get 'em.

This is exactly how and what I feel I need to be taught in order to excise properly. This is amazing. All the real information you need to know to execute the movements effectively. I am always wondering "where should I be pulling/ pushing from" "what muscles should I be focusing on using" etc .. but most videos don't quite give this full in depth explanation. 🧡 Great content.

I never did more than 22 push ups. I'm a servicewomen and we have physical tests. Our grade "10" is 26 push ups and I realized I spent my last three years in the army not pointing my heels like you said in the video. When I did that I actually managed to reach 26 push ups, because I felt my weight balance moving down to my core and aliviating the effort in my back, chest and arms. It was really cool. I never improved so much at once.

Push ups are definitely my nemesis. I have never made it past my knees. I know my hatred for them has caused me to not even care. 😂 I just do other chest exercises. 🙄 With this information, I'm going to try and master these. Thanks for being my at home coach, who provides clear and concise information. 😊

I just started a regimen of 15 min, 3 days a week exercise to get me started being healthier. I'm overweight and weak, especially my arms. Week one - The 3 exercises I have on this program of mine are pushups. I appreciate your video because I was discouraged when I saw I had to do pushups, so I went searching for some hope to keep with my program. I'm so grateful you made this video. Thank you and take care!

Wow, no joking, your push-up is the most beautiful I have ever seen!! 😍 Your in a straight line and everything is moving in the same way. I have seen soo many people who's upper body is just moving weirdly and doing this wave with the body because they are not strong enough to do it. But wow your push up is so clean! You are such a strong person, keep going!! 💪😘 P.S.: I've also never seen a man doing better push ups than you do honestly haha 👍🏻

Thank you so much for the **details**! As a former music instructor I appreciate the importance of breaking things down into components. It also give me hope! I was never good at push-ups (phys. ed. high school teachers just don't have the expertise to describe these things adequately), and I haven't even attempted one in probably decades! However, starting from the wall is such a great tip and I'm feeling enthusiastic. Will report back!

Thank you! Last June I had a double mastectomy due to breast cancer. Before surgery I was able to do about 4 push up claps in a row. Now I can't even do one push up on my knees. I'm going to try to build up strength off the wall or bench. I appreciate the motivation to be able to do a push up again one day 😊

Hi Whitney. You're a rockstar!!! Love that you're focusing on rebuilding. It's never easy. And surgery like that is such a massive trauma that it can feel like we are starting over. But you can do this! Focus on really engaging the correct muscles off that high incline. And slowly, over time, you can lower it. Using band presses as well is a great way to really control the move and focus on that activation. Here if you need anything!
