From my understanding (but I've just watched KZbinrs visit), is that the government does not control the whole country. Big areas are controlled by clans, who might find some way to make money off you (or swap you against a friend of them in prison). The government decided that it's cheaper to keep the tourists safe by giving them a guard, than get the whole country under their control. You should watch some bicyclist be frustrated by having the police drive slowly behind them.

Hey Marcus. Loving your videos. This is my 2nd time to give you insights. Pakistan has been struggling with the tourism situation. In most cases it is safe but tha here is the overview of past . Tourism was dead until IMRAN KHAN leadership came into power and many people starting making their dream destination to this country. Pakistan dont want to earn from tourism rather than show the real beauty it holds. The thing is that now why police escorts tourist everywhere. This is happening because now many areas if infrastructure and planning are not taken into account by the present government but on the other hand they want their image to retain hence is the result is nuisance. I am very optimistic on the point that Pakistan and it's poeple praise the tourist and very friendly and helpful but due to country's bad political influence and rivalry many mafias and terrorist gangs are there who just have negative extremism and they don't think anything about the country or themselves when their leaders ask them to make mischief. That is why to avoid such circumstances you are given a little pain. Not only the police but intelligence and other authorities are regularly monitoring the tourist activity. That i appreciate they are doing a hard job but this is not the way. The medium of control and safety can be fulfilled by other means. But this rather discourage the travellers, many moments of joy replenish this way. Hope this ends soon and you return back with much nicer presence.
@zareenkhan30085 ай бұрын
Plus what is understand that if it was only for you means if you were the solo traveller you shall be left alone but there is kid in this all alone which makes you ideal and very prone to these mafias i mentioned. For a big bounty (not be happen) but things can change scenario. The government can provide you their own safe map and routes and tourist will comply with them. This way less will be trouble caused

As a Pakistani, I'm so sorry that you had to go through this police harassment Marc, we are ashamed that some of us treat our guests in such a pathetic way, you must understand that Pakistan currently is under Dictatorship (a madman who wants to control every living being inside this country). I'm sure if you had visited Pakistan before March 2022, things would have been very different and you would have loved the experience. Because in this current situation, only a few sick minded people ruined your whole experience. Generally Pakistanis are very welcoming and will always treat you with lots of love and respect. It's just a few sick minded people who have taken over this beautiful country of 240+ million people, those few have ruined everything for you and ashamed us too. Again I'm sorry from every Pakistani. Wish things could have been different. And they will be different, as we are all fighting for our freedom currently as well. Would love to see you again in Pakistan when this Dictatorship ends. You will find it very heart warming and full of loving souls. Thank you.

L.G. Guys from Slovakia bought Royal Enfield diesels on an expedition in India and they weren't allowed to go to Pakistan with those bikes. So they had the motorbikes sent to Saudi Arabia and they hitchhiked through Pakistan and Iran, interestingly without a police escort. From Saudi Arabia, they then rode those motorbikes all the way home to Slovakia. In the past, the same guys also rode small 50cc "Pionýr" motorcycles from Slovakia all the way to the south of Africa.

My little brother and his wife have been living and teaching English in Islamabad for several years. He travel around northern Pakistan because he’s always looking for new places for sport climbing. In some areas the police insisted on accompanying him, especially in parts of Waziristan. I was always afraid for him, while I was just across the border at a small military base in Afghanistan. Somehow he’s always been ok. He seems to always be able to talk his way out of bad situations.
