@Master Chief yes i do i have a condition that i can't sleep with out meds. i have to adjust my sleep time or the meds effectiveness will run out and i will be up,. so for example if i take the meds at ten most likely i will be back up at 1 latest two because it only works for 4 hours. the night i run out or i don't get the prescription if i don''t take it i will be up all night body tired mind awake.

Always fantastic info. Thanks. I would add... 1. Keep a routine. You sleep better if you go to bed around the same time each night. 2. Train your mind to sleep by not doing too many things in bed. Don't be on your phone or pc in bed at night. Let your mind relax. Your system must know that when you go to bed, its to sleep

Same. This year has been the worst so far, I struggle to fall asleep, wake up more than 5 times during the night, often I only get 2 hours of sleep. It's TORTURE when I want to sleep badly but I just can't. When I see my siblings sleeping peacefully for more than 8 hours without being interrupted, I start to cry silently in bed, oh god how I envy them.

j10 gaming Midnight is when I really am alert. Midnight to 4:00 am. I hate it. I'm the opposite of most people. Whats worse is that my husband is a morning person and bounces out of bed at 5:30 every day! And he is retired! I had a feeling this would happen, and I was right on the money. At least he doesn't criticize my sleeping habits because that seems to be beyond my control. He gets up, makes coffee and jumps on his chores. I envy him so much! I do get a lot done once I wake up, but by that time he is taking his afternoon nap! If I slept in the afternoons, I would never be able to sleep at night at all! Day people don't appreciate how lucky they are.

Wow. I suffer anxiety---I *always* wake up at 3 o' clock before school. I have to walk to the school bus at 5 o clock---I fear that I'll be late---even with my alarm clock being active. Damn. And just in general, I suffer DSPD(Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder), I'm afraid before sleeping. Damn it, it's so hard to go to bed!

It might also just be metabolic, I was over exercising, under eating and not getting enough carbs which resulted in several nutritional deficiencies after 6 years etc (thought I was being healthy, felt great in the initial years) unknowingly I was putting my body in a catabolic state which will cause the body to stay awake and alert, as it is meant to. Think about what you are doing and what messages you are sending to your central nervous system via the way you eat exercise and live...you might be putting your body in survival mode and its simply doing what its meant to be doing. I cut back and changed the way I exercise opting for more anabolic promoting activities with ample recovery time, ate more frequent balanced meals and also allowed myself to take naps. It has taken a long time for my body to balance out and recover, I now don't even need to bother with or think about sleep hygiene, I get tired and sleep. I hope this helps someone in a similar predicament, the worst part is not knowing what is happening and how to recover.

Hits the “watch later” right before 10pm. I’ve never been an early bird. I was forced when I was young for school of course and started getting up at 5am and did that for years until I graduated. I hate 1st shift jobs. I’ve always felt best on a 2nd shift schedule, usually going to bed by 4am and getting up at noon. It feels most natural to me. Several of my family members are the same way. Even if I get up at 5am, I usually cannot fall asleep before midnight. Some people have suggested staying up all night and then going to bed around 9pm but even when I stay up all night I cannot fall asleep until around 3am.

Before you start taking sleeping tablets or something similar. Maybe its because you can't RELAX enough to go off to sleep and stay asleep?, so look at ways to relax yourself mentally and physically

When I lay on my right side, my left arm goes numb. It happens pretty quickly too, usually within 5 minutes. But when I lay on my left side, no numbness in either arm. Much more restful on my left side with no numbness.

I found out today that sleeping on your right side will can cause more acid to leak through your esophagus (your stomach) (this will make your acid reflux worse). If you sleep on your left hand side this will decrease your symptoms of acid reflux problems.

Hello Dr. Berg, I begin iF for two weeks and I lost 2 kilo so far, I am happy with the result and want to continue it. But I have a probleem that I do not sleep too well during the night, often wake up at mid of the night round 2:00-3:00, and takes me quite long again to sleep again. I don't have this problem before. So did I do something wrong with my iF? p.s I feel a bit hungry in the night but not much, I can bear it and after sometime is gone. Thanks doctor :)

Karen; I have the same thing happening to me. I never had sleep issues before. (I’m 63). Since I starting fasting; I just lay in bed wide awake for hours- Hoping my body will adjust to IF and this sorts itself out because I miss my 7 to 8 hours sleep.

Very informative video, Dr. Berg. I always go to bed every night at 10 pm and wake-up at 5:30 am and I don't even have to set an alarm clock to wake-up in the morning. I think my circadian rhythms must be working the way they should.

normally i sleep around 11pm-12am, because if i sleep around 9:30-10:00pm, i'll wake up at 1am, feeling so awake like i had an 8-hour good sleep, but i can't just stay awake because i'll feel extremely tired by 6-7am, so it'll just turn into a miserable struggle for me to try to fall asleep again between 2-5am.

Change your diet. I did. After 20 years of insomnia. I'm fine now for past few months. It can't be a coincidence. It worked on me within about 3 days. So worth a try.

@@hamidab7939 Well loads of stuff. So I'm unsure what the exact thing was. But this is what I did. I started aiming for 10 plant things to eat every day. I always eat lettuce. A huge portion as that seems to help. I cut out as much as possible, dairy and sugar. I don't drink alcohol anyway. I am vegetarian anyway. I eat 5 prunes every day and drink more water as I'm sure constipation keeps me awake too and when that's gone I'm better at sleeping. I try to keep a routine as well. But that doesn't work on its own. Let me know how you get on. I'd like to know if it works on anyone else too. Good luck. Insomnia is the worst

Continuously, 48 hours not getting any sleep, just laying on bed with a very clear mind overnight. Likewise, 1:47 of extended OMAD fasting (very occasionally), not feeling any hunger. Totally not tired nor not hungry at all... Supernatural.

I was going through when I was 19 bc I was stressing I couldn’t sleep for days I went to the doctor they prescribed with Xanax that didn’t work nothing works I had panic attacks then I started learn to not gaf when you dgaf everything is going to work fine whoever reading this you’re gonna be okay you’re gonna sleep normal again I’m 20 now and I sleep like a baby every night

I'm in bed by 9:15 and have no issue falling asleep. Its the dreaded middle of the night when I wake up to a racing heart and sweating profusely. I feel like I'm going to have a heart attack and I'm only 39! I eat VERY clean and take the supplements you recommend (I've taken them for years.) I'm hypothyroid and I'm on Synthroid, TSH is in range; I have been incredibly stressed since my Dad and my Sister died within 1 year of each other, it's been 1 year ago now. I really need help. Is this my adrenals or possibly my thyroid? Please help, this is ruining my life....

brother you're suffering from deep trauma and drugs won't help!you are stressing your nervous system beyond its limits!grounding/earthing,breathing exercises like the 4,7,8 and the 3,5-5,7-9 have helped me! I found that until I worked through my trauma I was suffocated by it and look up the polyvagal theory which explains a lot mindfulness can help but again it involves confronting emotions and as corny as it sounds happy memories and gratitude for the time you have had and the realisation you still carry th in your heart helps also!hope this helps in some way and be kind to yourself and take all the time you need,this is bad enough without you adding to it! find peace brother!

had 20 years of insomnia. Waking up at 2am, 4am and so on. Unable to get back to sleep and then dropping off at 5. or 6am. Sometimes I'd sleep through every couple of months but didn't know why. I found the answer. I've slept through every night for 5 months now. Apart from a couple of days. I stopped eating processed food (as much as I could) and dairy.. I also went to bed earlier. On days when I'm naughty. When I eat rubbish. I can't sleep. For example. Today I had a cake, vegan sausage roll and some chips. Had only 5 a day instead of my usual 10 a day. Can't sleep!!!.

I also get off at 730am and am home by 8, I used to shower and straight to bed by 830, I usually am asleep by 9am, however these days I've been getting up naturally at 12 noon AAARRRGHHH!!! My goal is 3pm so I can workout before leaving for work at 6pm. BUT now I'm going to switch it around, I'm gonna to go to the gym after work and aim to sleep from 10am to at least 4pm. I used to take 3mg of melatonin, it only worked for a week so I cut out all drugs..

See a sleep therapist, they can prescribe medications that are for clinical insomnia, such as low doses of Remeron, seroquel, & other meds

January 30, 2019: Thanks very much....good advice. I've developed insomnia since having to live in apartment complexes to finish graduate school. (Began a doctorate program but the job market has only grown worse.) Habit of going to bed late has been reinforced by the frightening tenants. {I'm a morning person.} Tips: 1) Avoid having a bedroom that faces a parking lot; 2) UNISOM is a gentle but effective sleep aid; 3)Take a cup of chamomile tea before bed; 4) Exercise is vital; 5) For added warmth and privacy, affix with tape a measured sheet of light-weight bubble wrap to window pane(s); 6) Make sure your home or apartment has the proper ventilation.....leave 1-2 windows slightly ajar; and 7) You may need a physical, so check with your physician. P.S. Attractive bars on the windows/doors provide added security. A blessed New Year!
