I've been an RPSGT (sleep tech) for 20 years. Thank you for all this valuable information! You asked about people whose sleep apnea tests come back negative. One thing to consider is that Medicare about 10 years ago changed the definition of a hypopnea. The private insurers have slowly been following suit. So now what we see in the lab is patients with hypopneas that are continually waking them up but they do not have OSA according to the new definitions. The old definition of a hypopnea was a respiratory event followed either by an arousal or a 3% blood oxygen desaturation. The new definition of a hypopnea is a respiratory event that must be followed by a 4% desaturation, with absolutely no concern for whether it woke the patient up. Why did the definitions change? For the insurance companies to save money of course! They focused on a study by some cardiologists that said 4% desaturations are where patients become at risk for hypertension, stroke, heart attack, all that jazz. So now people only get treated for sleep apnea if it's putting them at risk cardiac wise but they could be having hypopneas with 3% desats and waking up every 30 seconds all night long but they no longer qualify for treatment of their apnea. It's a disgrace!

The beginning of this year I just received my Medicare coverage. My prescriptions are cheaper if I pay cash than to use the Medicare with top tier Supplement. I can already tell that the coverage sucks and that the tail is wagging the dog. Insurance companies practicing medicine controlling doctors and hospitals. I know your comment is 3 years old, but I had to chime in with my own disgust.

This is really helping my 2 with Autism. One is severe level 3 started vocalizing more, much more eye contact, more focus and sleeping more. We are about 1-1/2 months in now.

I was going on 3+ months of no sleep (slept 4 hrs then would wake up) . I took the test she suggests and i was below optimal on vitamin d3 but not B. It's been over 8 days and i am on my 3rd night of 7 hours of sleep. I started with the 15k iu of vitamin D as she suggests.. these past three days have been such a blessing. I cannot wait until the third month mark. I had tried over the counter sleep aids and prescription medicine for my insomnia and it provided no relief.

Which company did you use to test your Bs? ZRT? I have been fighting insomnia for 3 years! I’ve try everything, advil pm, sleepy tea…I finally got an anxiety med & that helps me fall asleep but wake up around 3 am. Ugh! I really don’t want meds! I started her D & B recommendation 2 weeks ago along with my cpap. My sleep is improving with a high dose of Melatonin. Lack of Sleep is a slow death sentence!

@@OceanLife772 I ended up going through quest diagnostics. I hear you, early this year i was really struggling. I will be going in for another test soon as we head into the winter months. Honestly with covid i have been working from home and have rarely gotten out.

I have listened to every video featuring Stasha Gominak that I can find on KZbin… and I have been stringing together the little pearls of wisdom that she drops in each one. I have been using the Right Sleep workbook for five months and I cannot believe how my sleep, my life, my ability to function and think has improved! My gut too - I can suddenly eat far more freely without a host of uncomfortable bloating and pain. Dr. Gominak - THANK YOU! And, as I try like a new evangelist to share your videos and the workbook - I sigh- it is so simple a plan to follow, and folks are too often so dense and unwilling to hear what may be real hope for health turnaround.

You cannot hand your health and well being over to a laborer. That’s what doctors have become. They are victims of managed care. Think about it. Think about their constraints. The least if which is time. Simone Gold is an example of that. She dared to treat patients with what her actual research had taught her- and she did it successfully- she was fired from her job. (She cured Covid patients with hydroxychloroquine).

doctors to survive must convince us they are experts which might be pretty rare... so they manipulate things and maybe often make things worse than letting things just follow their own course

The fact that Dr. Gominak charges 80$ for a "sleep workbook" which literally just says to take vitamin D and B vitamins for a certain period of time is a reflection of her greediness/narcissism. There is little to no evidence for most of her "revolutionary" claims about Vitamin D and sleep and her ideas about your body needing "extra B's" are based solely on her speculation. Please avoid getting sucked into the nonsense this doctor is spouting out and buying her worthless book. Daily intense cardio, healthy diet, and normal circadian rhymn is all most people need to achieve optimal health. supplementing with Vitamin D can also be helpful, but most of the major claims she makes about it are not supported by evidence. Also, her "hibernation theory" is complete speculation and is also not supported by any evidence.

Damn MIke, I was just looking back at Dr. Gominak previous interview you did over 3 years ago. I am so happy to see her back. I just love listening to her so much knowledge and a great delivery. I've been able to improve my health and sleep. Mouth tape, D3/K2, mag supplements, animal based low carb, exercise, blue blocker glasses, regular bed time regular wake time, cold dark bedroom, etc. I will be sharing with my poor sleeping buddies.

What has stuck with me me since your amazing first interview is a referall you made about the proximity of the hypothalamus to the vagal nerve. I was born in the early 1950’s in a small village in East Africa with no upper palate at all. At the age of 18 months my parents moved back to US and I had an amazingly good palate built in a Seattle children’s Hospital. I was the first baby to receive this method of building a top palate, so it was filmed. I have had so many weird illnesses my entire life.Yes sleep problems, blocked nasal passages, weakened ability to perspire etc.And impaired immunity. Could the broken hypothalamus/vagal nerve be a strong possible cause of these odd symptoms. You are an absolute joy to listen to. It appears you love your work. Thank you.

There has apparently been some interesting successes related to fecal transplant for autistic children in order to repair their damaged stomach intestinal flora and fauna. Perhaps look into it 🤷🏼. Good luck and God bless you and your son🙏🏻

In addition to being bonded/earthed/grounded and more of your skin being exposed to the sunlight there is also the phenomenon of the natural negative ion generators lapping at the shore. Crashing waves, waterfalls, forests in the rain, all generate massive quantities of negative ions. 🙂

Such an amazing interview! I love that you let her speak and ask her the right questions; you're a really good interviewer. She covers so much and I'm happy she talked about the vagus nerve and HRV. I wish this was talked about more. I recently bought her book after attending a virtual conference about fatigue and sleep disorders.

@@eugeniebreida it is a traditional wood fired sauna that you throw water on the rocks to generate steam. Its become a sanctuary for decompressing. The added benefit of all the insulation is that it is super quiet. You just hear the crackling of the fire. And music if you want it.

I started watching your videos about a week ago. I’m now taking B complex and D3 vitamins, probiotics, and spending more time outside. I have started dreaming every night! @Carolyn Fulton take vit d and b vit in the MORNING. That includes fish oil if you take it. Turn lights much lower an hour after sundown. No electronics/tech 2 hours prior to bed. If you can notech in the bedroom.

Make sure you never take your b complex vitamins later in the day, you won't sleep good at all. I made that mistake since i fast until 2pm and you have to take b vitamins with food

Mike, I have watched most if not all your videos. This was one of my favorites for sure. The amount of great info in this was mind blowing to say the least! When you asked Dr Stasha a question and she said “I dont know” I gained even more respect for her. I wish years ago when I was metabolically broken my Dr said I dont know, instead of oh well, it just runs in the family, take pills. All my problems “ran in the family” until I followed people like you, Ben Bikman etc. All my issues resolved and at 42 I am in amazing shape. Thank you so much for all you do! You have no idea how many people you are changing the lives of.

Well it seems to be working for me. Now in 4th month. I have always thought I slept well - timewise - but not sure of the quality. Now dreaming a lot and remembering some of the dreams. Noticed my gut seems to be happier too. My D3 was 36 - deemed adequate in UK three months ago. Just about to test again, still on B50. Have much more energy recently.

She is amazing! I have listened to so many of her interviews and using her systems improved my health in many ways. Yet still, it took me 6 hours to finish listening to this because I went back so often and stopped to research some of this in the context of the Australian health service (which is also pretty amazing). I also love Mike as an interviewer, possible the MOST of all the health interviewers, even the doctors, because he lets the guest get on with giving us their info without distraction or a desire for them to educate and assist him. Mike has plenty of video's where he talks direct to the camera with his knowledge if you want his stuff, but when he has a guest he lets them do their thing so beautifully.

@@mirandaweaver2898 guessing a Vitamine D supplementation, walking at least 15 min outside everyday, eating low carb and my last meal before 5pm and learning to breath with my nose with mouth tapping. Oh and I lost 130lbs so that might have helped as well 😉

I increased my REM from 7 minutes a night to 2 hours plus since introducing vitamin D and reducing my B complex from some really high doses my naturopath had me on. Fan freaking tactic

How to tell if you have a real doctor? You find one who is constantly challenging dogma that is not working, asking questions, searching for answers and results. This is a real doctor! This explains why people can eat such different “healthy” diets and do well. Their D and biome are healthy and feeding them what they really need. I’ve been so perplexed as to why some can eat fat and be healthy, eat meat and be healthy, eat plants and be healthy yet I’ve tried all those diets and never got healthy. My D level was 7 back in 2006 look how long I’ve been crippled. Started her workbook two weeks ago and not looking back.

Yes and I think it explains why people need these 'extreme' diets to be healthy to begin with. People didn't used to get obese but eat nothing but white bread all year.

I’ve got my blood level checked and it was 69. Right in the zone! I’m getting it checked again with a different test to see if the first test is viable. The biggest improvement is not as tired and I feel like taking a walk. That’s huge for me. I have a friend though who is doing it with me and she’s had to replace her glasses her eyes improved so quickly and has noticed she’s much more stable and strong.

The sun hits the retina, which is important to activate sleep wake cycles, hence the importance of vitamin A, also.

Sunlight makes melatonin. Melatonin makes sleep and drives regeneration after dark. Blue light And cortisol destroys melatonin.

Blue light breaks the single covalent bond that melanopsin makes with vitamin a in the retina in diurnal animals. Nocturnal animals possess a double covalent bond that doesn't react to the free electron made by blue light hitting the photoreceptor. This is such a key point in our human physiology that it makes studies with nocturnal animals unreliable. How many studies from rat and mice trials do not then belong in the realm of useful valid honest truth?

Really an informative discussion. When I hear a discussion outlining this level of complexity (in a friendly manner) I'm left scratching my head when the same person says something to the effect that 'evolution made us this way". No friggin way! Like Dr. James Tour outlines in some of his talks, we have no clue how to make these systems, given the building blocks and the best labs in the world. And yet we proclaim these systems just happened on their own?? We are more than the sum of our parts.

I've been sick for the past 20 years, and debilitated by anxiety and depression since my son was born 16 years ago. Such an amazing doctor, I've listened to every one of her interviews. I thank God that there's someone like her in this world. Mike's comment at the end about her courage to step out of the box is spot on. Part 1 was where I found about Dr. Gominak (about a week ago). I have bought her book, listened to a lot of her talks, some of them multiple times, and have an appointment with her for my mother. She is extremely curious, a great teacher (she teaches you how to ask questions and think), and incredibly courageous to speak with the clarity and confidence she does despite the backlash she received from her MD community. Brilliant!

For more on D, there are a couple of great interviews with Vitamin D expert /researcher Dr. Robert Heaney who was at Creighton University. He was on this D stuff years ago, long before most. My gut tells me this is one of the most honest doctors I have ever seen and I thank you for that cause I’ve been threw hell with them , maybe not there fault but still hell, after 3 years and a lot of cash I finally checked my Vit d level and working on others , it’s a 22 so I started my journey … I have felt what I would say is dreaming while awake but only when I’m almost to sleep , very weird I have learned to accept these odd feelings but hoping the vit d helps me , thank you doc

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea about ten years ago and began cpap therapy. Over the past several months, I have modified my diet to increase vegetables, eliminate meat and poultry and fish, and severely reduce gluten and dairy. For the first time, the frequency of apnea episodes stabilized, then it started to go down. This is not the only change I have made, but it is the most "daily" change. My osteoarthritis has also improved.

Reducing or eliminating gluten/grain products and dairy would reduce nasal inflammation… and some are allergic to various fish… Congrats on improvements. For me plenty of organic meat and mostly deep green veg serve me well - also sardines/omega 3 oils/cod livers or oil…

Learn TM.org. Then meditate for 5-10 minutes (Other than the normally instructed 15 to 20 minutes twice daily of TM) at the opposite time of day that you woke up during the night the day before. It always breaks that pattern and repairs the cycle! You may need to repeat it for a couple of days. Set your timer for five minutes before that a.m. or p.m. time that you need to meditate, so you don’t forget relief to do it. It’s a great relief!!

In the northern countries where there are many dark months, they used to eat a lot of butter, mackerel and cod liver oil. I found out recently that that's how their ancestors went through the very long winters. I have just now started to give the kids and myself cod liver oil instead of those synthetic useless supplements. We should look more into what our ancestors did where we live, like she said about being outside a lot more before we introduced a new lifestyle. Thank you to these kind of doctors who dedicate their lives to actually help people. Those useless politicians receiving millions from lobbies doing nothing for the people is just so unfair...

For me, cod liver oil from pure, cold ocean waters, that actually come from a cod's liver is preferable to "fish oil" from what and where? I also use cold pressed hemp oil as a supplement, sometimes as part of a salad dressing, sometime just straight off the spoon. Good stuff in there too.

Cod liver oil is great - make sure it is prepared in a non-destructive way. BTW cod liver oil is made from the liver of cod. Fish oil is from the skin of fish- Two completely different things, do not get confused.

This is foundational information. I took copious notes 3 years ago and I did this time too. It is difficult to know who to go to next for more digging on sleep and the microbiome. I was listening to the video and hit pause to ask my friend if any of her kids had ADD and did they smoke? She said yes, 3 of them. And they all can't sleep. That kind of blew me away. Immediate validation. Keep up the good work. The comments are also extremely good and help open up avenues of thought. Thank you.

My sleep went right out the window with hormonal changes.... big time. I went on HRT recently , sleep did improved, then I got a brutal UTI I was placed on multiple ABs took about 3 weeks to clear up. My sleep is terrible again, and my anxiety and depression is horrible. Now I’m on a mission to sleep and to heal, it’s a battle

Good luck! Dont forget exercise and trying to take time to get lost in a thing... like a flow state. Also getting somewhere you can see the horizon. I think these things have a massive psychological impact on how the brain is wired.

After antibiotics they say it trashes our microbiome .Which will trash our sleep .So have to take the proper probiotics to return a balance to our microbiome .Can be difficult to know the correct balance of them .Heard of a study where they compared healthy people's microbiome to unhealthy people's microbiome .To see what the unhealthy were missing .Better to try to replace them than to not replace them at all .
