The grandkids will love having games and toys that dont need power or internet if everyone is living there in an emergency. The best part is if you focus on having those kind of toys/games now it will be just like any trip to see you when something happens. But for now they will just think they have lots of board games, and legos, and books.

Even if you're not preparing for a SHTF event, it is ALWAYS prudent to have extra food stock and necessities on hand. So many people have the "just in time" mentality. Where they only have enough until the next shopping trip. I raised four children on a very limited budget in the mid 70s to late 80s. Actually it wasn't until recently I realized just how limited it was! It was then I started putting up extras. When you have little ones you don't want to run out of food or diapers, etc.Nothing will break a mothers heart faster than not being able to provide for her children. Another suggestion get the Better Homes and Garden cookbook. It's red and white check and a 3 ring binder. You can probably find one second hand on Amazon for a reasonable price or a second hand book store.. lots of easy to do recipes.

You need to prep without him! Your children depend on you! Every time you go to the store just pick up a few extra canned goods and a bag of rice, next time some seasonings and a few gallons of water. Just keep going and you will be surprised at how fast your preps add up. Sneak it into the house if you have to and stash it under your bed or the kids beds. My hubby is not on board and I've been doing this for years! Please do it for your kids!!

Create a 3 ring binder with printed info. “How to’s” along with instructions on how to use certain products, meal plans on how to combine various food items, directions on how to make that three ingredient biscuit, how to turn off the gas, etc. In an emergency, the Internet may be down. Additionally, reading it will help. Having an emergency notebook is good for all family members. Try to buy a few books to have on hand. First aid how to books are excellent. Any other books relevant to your needs or set up are good, too. For example if you’re growing first aid plants, a book on how to use them helps 😊. Keep in mind if you’re wanting to grow such things, some can take two years to harvest. Starting now isn’t a bad idea...but resources might be best spent on more prudent needs.

@@pegianddon There are some great videos on youtube with ideas. What I find is that a lot of the videos tend to show more short-term focus books (e.g. talking about how to get out of the woods if you get lost to get back to civilization) instead of the long-run. I would recommend getting some gardending (Also look into soil! Extremely important!) and food preservation books. Same with prepping some good (heirloom and NOT "vault" (I've heard they aren't exactly great quality and I wouldn't want to rely on bad quality seeds to prevent me from starving) seeds and (garden) equipment.

I have one have had the butane burner stove for years bought at Gordon Food Service along with extra canisters. These are safe for indoor use. They originally were used for food demos. I have used mine several times to make percolator coffee in but they can also be used for frying and heating soups. You can even buy a pressure "cooker" not canner to cook dry beans in fast about 20 minutes, same with raw meats like a chicken. Mine came in a carry case for easy storage. I can't say enough good things about it and they are affordable as well as the fuel canisters. I bought a 3 pack recently at Gordon Food Service for $8.00. They last a long time. I also have bought from the thrift store a couple of fondue pots which use the sterno fuel canisters. Good for heating soups in. Sterno fuel also last a decent amount of time I think it says 3 hours on the canister. After each use just put the cap back on it'll quench the flame safely. I buy mine at Family Dollar $1 each. Big black sharpie marker. Hang it near your supplies. Use it to put an x on anything coming up on its expiration so you can easily see the items that need to be used up first. I use this trick in my pantry, and sometimes have to create meals around those items. I check dates every month. I maybe end up marking five or six items max a year, mostly lesser used items. It will save you a lot in the long run, even if you properly rotate because it’s a nice visual reminder of what needs to be used, especially for specialty items you may use less often. It’s easy to forget about things that are not part of a normal rotation.

Hey Fam!!! Great shift with the shelves. You've done a great job in 2 months!!!!! Don't for get paper plates, plastic cups and forks spoons and knives to save water and trash bags. I know it's a process, it's taken 3 yrs to get 80% of where we want to be. Having several different ways to cook off grid is important, especially if you have to boil water. Charcoal, propane, Rocket stove, solar oven (All American Sun Oven works great!!! and made in IL we love ours.) and campfire. Also lighting, Oil lamps and candles for fall and winter, solar and battery for spring and summer. Think solar path lights in planters that can be moved out in the day and in at night. Don't forget fire...lighters, matches, flints.

First time viewer long time prepper here. Very nice and organized but I'll share something I share with every channel on prepping. I don't know where you are at but here in Ohio and especially this time of the year (Sept/Oct/Nov) we have mice trying to find winter living quarters. They will eat your Ramen Noodles in a heart beat, same with boxed crackers, anything like that rice, spaghetti noodles, crackers. I suggest looking for popcorn tins, cookie tins, large glass jars with tight fitting lids so that you don't loose your food supply. I buy mine in the thrift stores yard sales etc. where they are reasonably priced. I even have a big cookie tin that I store burritto shells in, those have a fairly good shelf life. Same with taco shells. I look forward to watching more of your videos no matter how long you've been doing this there is always something new to learn. Anna In Ohio.

Cooking alternatives: (1) If you have an electric stove, if feasible switch it out for propane or natural gas. I switched mine years ago after Hurricane Fran took out power in this area for 2 weeks. (2) Build or buy a wood burning rocket stove. There are some good plans available that use bricks. I bought a SilverFire Survivor rocket stove a few years ago. Fuel is twigs. Yet, this stove is capable of running my Presto Pressure canner. A lot of fuel for it can be stored in a large plastic tote. Do check it out. There are a number of reviews and how-to on YT. (3) If you don't have one, a propane and/or a charcoal grill with a propane side burner will allow you to boil, fry, grill and bake. Yes, I've baked biscuits in my propane fired grill. (4) Colman campstove (or equivalent brand). Add a 2 burner castiron griddle and the Colman folding camp oven. I have both the liquid camp fuel and propane versions. Love to do breakfast with the griddle. Make pancakes, 'fried" eggs, rashers of bacon just like it's done on a diner's flat top. The oven is small, like a toaster oven. Yet, it can bake muffins, meatloaf, bread in a loaf pan and even a pizza with a pizza stone that fits a toaster oven. (4) Make a hobo stove from a silverware strainer. Google: IKEA hobo stove. I made mine from a similar strainer from Walmart. There are a host of options for this stove, including a DIY alcohol stove (Fancy Feast stove) or a Trangia stove. Can use Sterno and/or chafing fuel. Can use tea lights, wood, Esbit (or equivalent) fuel tablets. (Also quite a bit on this at YT, as well.) (5) Firepit in the back yard. As simple as a small campfire, a stealth Dakota firepit (google), to a full fledged cowboy cooking setup. (6) Haybale cooking -- modern product called a "Wonder Box". Included here is Thermos bottle cooking, too. (7) DIY or purchased solar oven. I have the least experience with this. Understand its a good option where sunlight is readily available. (Have a lot of shade where I'd like to use one.) Hope something or 2 in this list will be a useful option for you.

However, I go to Gordon Food Services and buy the cans you would use at a wedding venue! By the way, where are your water stabilizers, such as Berkey or an Alexa Pure Pro Water Filtration System, that does not need electricity and/or a Sawyer straw. Thanks for sharing and receiving sound advice. Take care!!! Hi, Pegi, missed you today!!! It's nice to see couples working on emergency preps together!!! If Babylon is telling you 3-6 months, I'd double or triple, and please don't tell the neighbors...OPSEC!!! Make sure kids and grandkids keep your preps as the family's biggest secret!!! Camping gear is a great item for emergency preps. Please buy wool hats, socks, sweaters, and blankets. I used to buy boat loads of toilet paper but in reality, you can never buy enough toilet paper. I do have a nice stock to maybe last 6 months. But if there is a long term emergency I have taken old flannel sheets and even bought some at thrift stores. I ripped them up to about 12” squares. I have several squeeze bottles that you use for mustard. You know, the one with the small this nozzle. So, if there comes a time that I need to use these reusable toilet wipes, they are ready. You can fill up the squeeze bottle to wash off the big chunks if needed. You could set up a bucket with some water, bleach, and a lid. It’s just like the old timey diaper pail. You may not want to use them but if your toilet paper has run out these are great.

Great job! I've always been at least a light prepper but I go all in during a crisis. My husband usually just smiles and nods but, this time, he's not just humoring me. This whole situation is beyond serious. I'm trying to figure out how to get my girls and grandchildren, and great grandchildren here, if things get horrible. They're in California and Washington and one of my 2 daughters works in Oregon. I'm absolutely frantic about their safety, and 1800 miles away from them. I'm prepping for them anyway. We all need to do whatever we can, as we are able. Good luck and God bless you and yours.

Great job in 3 months. It's always a good idea to have extra and not just in case of emergencies. Suggestions: 1) get a really good water filter system as water is vital. We got a big Berkey and extra filter which has been great. This way, we can always collect rain water or use the water from our stream if our well water pump does not run due to no electricity. 2) get a few cast iron cookware so you can always cook over open fire if needed or try a solar oven/cooker in case propane or electricity is not available. 3) Put the ramen and pasta in plastic totes with fitted lids to keep any critters out. We put them in 55 gallon steel drums or in 5 gallon food grade buckets but plastic totes are a cheap and easy way to keep anything that you don't want (mice/moths...) to get at, if you have them. 4) Put the smaller bathroom items in small totes so you can use more of the plastic shelf space. Keep up the good work and stay safe and healthy.

The best shelves that I've found are the heavy duty (acrylic??) shelving at Home Depot, they cost around $59. They are not metal. We've used these to hold multiple engine blocks on each shelf (bf had a speed shop). They can easily hold stacked canned goods without buckling. You can also adjust the height of these shelves by cutting down the posts as you want, to stack the heights. I don't use metal shelving for this purpose. I have maybe 15 of these shelves at least in various locations around the house. Don't get the ones at Lowes! Anyway, your pantry is looking awesome!

Hello. I love your work. One thing that has been an absolute boone to me and my family is the use of foaming soap dispensers. Please indulge me. At the beginning of this mess, I needed hand soap but the only thing available at the local big-box store was a foaming hand soap, so I got what they had. It has been a life changer! I noticed that the soap in the foaming bottle was much thinner than the soap in regular pump bottles and when I used all that up, I refilled it with one-half oz of regular hand soap to 7 oz of water. It worked perfectly! Simple math is that it expands the efficiency of my hand soap 14:1. I have not found another foaming bottle in the stores, but on line, I was able to get foaming bottles from Amazon for Method brand and from Bath and Body Works for a complete line of foaming hand soaps, but those were a bit pricey. I am reusing these foaming bottles over my entire house. I have this ratio of one half oz soap to 7 oz water for dish soap on my counter. How many times do we grab the dish detergent bottle for just a "drop" to clean a single dish or utensil? Using the foam expands that 14:1 and it works perfectly. I use this ratio for body wash in the shower, and that is satisfactory, but I have got more work and experimenting to do with shampoo. So far, this is not successful. Any time you can increase the efficiency of any of your products by fourteen times, it's well worth considering. Again, good work. Thank you for sharing.

Propane stoves are a great addition to your preps, also. They add the kind of flexibility we appreciate as preppers. Grab 4-6 one-pound cylinders and you are ready for a short-term bug-out. Get an adapter and you can run your stove off the 20 pound cylinders, like you use for a backyard grill. And don't forget about your backyard grill!! They are great in a lower outage. Charcoal, brickettes or hardwood, last a long time if kept dry and so does propane, just stock an extra cylinder or two. I'm new to your channel, so I might not have seen you mention yet, but you should also stock salt. Plain kosher salt works best, in my opinion, and is easy to store in any air-tight container. It has no expiration date and along with sugar, will make great quality-of-life barter items. God Bless you and your family

Buy your toilet paper from amazon. I recommend the boardwalk brand. You can get 96 rolls at a time. Put those rolls in a plastic storage container, so rodents don’t get into it, or keeping it dry. Also, get a sharpie and put expiration dates on the canned food labels. That way you can rotate your cans accordingly. Good luck.

Pegi & Don thank you again for more tips, I would like to give you a few hints that we have done. We bought a small food saver and some bags and we sealed up our flour, rice, beans and sugar in smaller bags and then we put those into the big five gallon buckets to keep critters out of it and if it does come down to having to use some of these items for bartering then you have them in smaller packages and you're not having to give away your whole bag. We've also used our canning jars to store our macaroni, rice and beans and snack foods that we didn't want critters getting into. As far as more meat we bought things that we could just open with a can opener and eat like dinty moore stew, chili, corned beef and hash, ravioli, and even some canned meat from Walmart called Keystone canned chicken, beef and pork. Hope this gives you some more ideas. Be safe and stay healthy!

Pegi&Don be sure to allow the stuff your froze to come back up to room temp before you transfer to sealed storage to allow it to dry completely as it will have some moisture from freezing. I've been prepping since 1999 and I'm happy to see you are storing things you know you will eat that is very important. I would suggest that you stock up on the cooking spices you use such as garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder extra. That is one thing folks don't think about. Also cover your water with a dark cloth to keep light out since the bottles are clear. Keep your eyes out for dark color water containers. Keep up the good work guys.

Another suggestion. I am blessed to have a big freezer myself but, mine is about 25 yrs old. Since I use a lot of veggies in my cooking & just in case our freezer goes out, I've started dehydrating veggies like onions, bell peppers, mixed veggies, potatoes, etc. I know too that you can dehydrate meat but, I've never done that yet. Of course I just started dehydrating myself but, it's so easy besides having to blanche somethings & it saves so much room. I too bought the same metal shelves you have for can goods at Walmart.
@oldtimerlee8820

Meat doesn't last very long when it's dehydrated. It's because of the fat content. When canning supplies return to the market, canning meats is the best way to preserve them for the long haul. I've canned ground hamburger, hamburger patties, beef stew meat, Boston butt pork chunks, venison stew meat, chicken leg quarters and even leftover fried Thanksgiving turkey. Won't be long before turkeys will be on sale again. Plus, I make lots of broths from these meats when I use the hot pack method. Keep your dehydrator going with frozen vegetables, bought on sale prices. All the prep work has been done. Like you, I've dehyreated onions, mixed veg, celery, and #10 cans of canned vegetables, too. Cook rice and dehydrate that. Cook dried beans and dehydrate them. All these are already cooked (if canned) thus those big cans can become single serving mix/match meals by re-hydrating with boiling water. Dehydrate fruits. etc & etc. I bought that style of shelf from Walmart, too! :-)

Look into aquatainer water storage or the big blue barrels if you have a place to store them. Secondly, expanding your first aid supplies beyond the little kits. Make sure you have a stock of the meds you use (prescription and otherwise) as well as additional first aid supplies. I also highly recommend taking a cpr and stop the bleed class! Ok now that I’m thinking... do you have car kits?

Good start. 3 meals a day plus snacks, need a lot more than what's been shown. :-) Most cans are filled with water ..seems like more content. Recommend B&M canned bread, Parmalat milk, canned berries (Oregon fruit), canned salmon. Date each can w description and eventually add in stackable can storage. Mild cheese at Costco went from $4.00 to almost $7.00 and many other products increased by several dollars. Limits are back and hearing of sell outs or shortages in many states already. Lots of caustic smoke here in Cali..doing our best not to have a reason to go out..

Hey Guys! Y’all are doing great. Major Props to ya. A couple tips from past mistakes, gosh do mistakes make wonderful lessons. I’d done 2 major preps back in 2017 & 18- in addition to the bits that I’d been gathering. I thought I’d done a pretty good job. Sure- lots of gear & extras I still needed/need. (Coveting a Big Birky, HAM radio, solar generator & power devices & a few of those nifty survival many in one items.) As well as a deep freeze. (Sigh *) 😊 In December of 2019 rodents got into my garage preps & are right thru food grade buckets. So even though I’d transferred our flours, pastas, sugars, etc. into those buckets; they gnawed right into em. (Even into non-food items, like lotions & sunblock!) I’d been caring for my Dad, along with myself & kids. My Dad passed in January 2020, right before the Rona hit- so you can imagine how upset I was to have been caught unprepared after all of that work! I still don’t have a perfect answer to that problem- except I now have abandoned the garage for food, in favor of an indoor linen closet & our regular pantry. Just wanted to warn others of that possibility- may want to put a few of those Tom Cat safe rodent poison boxes around your supplies. * God bless us all & help us withstand whatever comes our way. Let us keep our wits & humanity.

My little one burner sterno type setup really did not cut it during the week of power outage we had with hurricane laura. Seriously consider something that can use actual propane tanks. In a week you go through a LOT of those little cans of fuel. I also suggest learning to can and investing in a canner and canning supplies. You can then pick up seasonal veggies and can them for later. You can get some of that meat out of the freezer by canning things like chicken, beef stew, ham and bean soup or even ground beef. I learned to can 3 years ago and it has saved us an absolute fortune because we can buy things when they are cheap and store them long term without electricity. I am completely self taught. Many great sources for learning how on you tube. Guildbrook Farm has some great beginning canning videos.

This is the first video I have seen from you and I am very impressed. First, awesome that you are open to suggestions from viewers. Your stronger metal shelving is certainly a wise upgrade. I wish we had a basement like yours! I am in Louisiana and basements are non-existent. Have you considered a portable or standby generator? If at all possible, that is a great investment. We used a portable for a long time. Three years ago we had a 17kw standby installed that is a game changer! After Hurricane Laura, our area did not have power for 8 1/2 days. We still had AC, could do laundry, run dishwasher, etc. just like normal. No loss of our frozen or refrigerated food. Food suggestions.....oatmeal, maple syrup, honey, baking goods such as cocoa powder, baking powder, etc. Canned fruits and pie fillings, cake mixes, canned evaporated and condensed milk, dry and canned beans, canned tomato products, pasta sauces. Any OTC medicines, all toiletries, paper plates, etc. You have a great start to prepping and great attitude. Enjoyed your video and will subscribe. Thanks!

A tip I have for you which is something I do is keep ant and roach bait traps under all of my selves. I also keep sticky traps underneath my selves too. The last thing you want is for rodents to invade your stash of goods. Also once a month spray the corners of the rooms with bug spray the smell alone will deter them from coming in there.

I just discovered your channel & LOVED it so I subscribed & requested notification of all your videos. YOU, young man, spoke to the camera as though you BELONG THERE (because you DO)!! I especially appreciated your humble demeanor which I found endearing, as well as refreshing. Thank you for thinking of others by sharing & helping them get prepared. Although I'm not new to prepping, I learned long ago that there is no one person that knows everything, so I'm a big believer in sharing information, knowledge, & teaching skills that others will benefit from. Like the timeless Prepper Mantra emphatically states: "Knowledge weighs nothing" so please keep growing & learning new skills, everyone! The life you save could be that of a much-loved family member, a dear friend, or even your own.

Yes, we don't like spam as it is, but when you fry it, it is really good. Walmart have a luncheon meat that is a bit cheaper and is like Spam, also, even the Dollar Tree has one for $1. When things happen, you will need a variety of canned meats. Also learning to can is helpful in putting back meat.

USA is soo blessed to be able to purchase a lot of bulk food at different outlets..for an inexpensive price tag... . In Canada we pay 2x and sometimes 3x more for the same quantity of food in a case... example: COSTCO Prices = 6 cans of tuna cost us $20 .....3kg of honey $22...... . 2:20 Our 5 Gallon buckets are 12$ each with a snap lid that cracks after use. . 4:00 ..At our Canadian Walmart is 4 liters/ 1gallon of water is $2 . 6:03 ... 3 whole chickens are $30 cad

Also, when storing seasonings/spices, I buy small Mylar bags and iron my seasoning/spices in those. Mylar is among the best storage medium for foods. I use 5 gallon Mylar bags that I usually dump 25-30 pounds of rice, beans, etc in them, iron them shut (after adding oxygen absorbers), and keep them in five gallon buckets with lids. That way the food is double protected. Any dried good, including spice/seasoning, I recommend vacuum sealing at a minimum, but highly recommend Mylar storage. Harder to find Mylar bags of all sizes now after the whole pandemic started though.

You are doing a phenomenal job with your food pantry. I'm so glad someone spoke up about the plastic shelves. I was going to get some but will now get the heavy duty type. I've been working on our pantry since the beginning of the outbreak. Isn't it comforting to see all the progress you have made? I think it's wonderful what you are doing! Keep up the good work and thank you for supporting your wife. It makes things so much easier when the entire family takes this on together. Blessings to you and your family. ❤️
