Molly...you need to see their cover of "The Little Mermaid Medley", where Geoff plays Ursula! One of their best. The theatrical performances are what set Voiceplay apart from some of the others.

One thing I have to recommend with voice play is listen at least twice to every song. Once normally listening to lyrics, but also a second time trying as hard as you can to ignore the lyrics and listen just to the background. There is just so much going on that you don't realize. We at least I didn't until I started listening that way.

Voiceplay is the more theatrical acapella group. This was my introduction to them, too.
@jeffstumpf91293 жыл бұрын
Exactly! They have Musical Theatre down pat. Some of the characters even have cartoonishly evil voices. With PTX, Home Free, and others, Voiceplay has a niche to call their own. And, they are as fun as they are talented.

They did at least 2 other covers from this movie: "This Is Halloween", and "Kidnap The Sandy Klaws" (not one of my personal favorites). For a little less theatrics, but still an amazing performance, I would recommend their cover of "Daddy Sang Bass".
@Zentrix-243 жыл бұрын
Voiceplay is a top A-Capella group. Geoff is an amazing bass with pretty good range. They did a superb job on "The Grinch" as well. And Geoff has put out numerous solo covers and he always does an ingenious job usually with 4 of him doing voice. Great pick and check out more of both Voiceplay and Geoff Castallici videos.
@MrTech2263 жыл бұрын
I think some of the members of Voiceplay worked at Disney World prior to Voiceplay. I know that Geoff (Bass) has worked there. Geoff has vocal range of 4 to 5 Octaves plus he can go lower in the Bass range (subharmonics) especially at the end - note is E1. Geoff Castellucci has his own KZbin channel. On his channel, Geoff does covers of Beatles' Blackbird to Hobbit's Far Over Misty Mountains Cold. They are core of 3 well known A Cappella Groups: Voiceplay, Home Free and Pentatonix. Even some members of each group can be featured on another group's cover. Geoff's good friend, Tim Foust of Home Free has same range of vocals too.

This is the video that got me hooked on VP! They're amazing, and I love how they bring the theatrical side up! 💖 This is one of 4 vids they did for "The Nightmare Before Christmas". the other 3 are also awesome: "Kidnap the Sandy Claws", "This is Halloween" and "What's This". Please, check them out. They have so many fantastic videos! Oh, another VP favorite is "The Phantom of the Opera", I think it's worth your time! Looking forward to more VoicePlay from you! 😍

All these great recommendations but one big omission, 'Just Sing'. A fund raiser done last year, but the cool thing about it is how the relationships between the singers in the cameo appearances and Vp are explained in the [CC] if you enable them.

"You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" by Voiceplay is one of my favorites... it's funny, and the musical arrangement is brilliant, and Geoff is able to showcase his voice in an ensemble of amazing performances, including the featured teenage (I think 16, at the time of this song's release) vocalist Adriana Arellano kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpfFe2Npfc2af7c

I've never seen the film but the title Nightmare Before Christmas gives you the idea. To hear Geoff's full range you need to see his Country Roads or Blackbird or others in his own channel. Voiceplay don't always do mini musicals of course. Many songs are more straightforward singing.

I was exactly what you described: an a cappella fan, familiar with VP, but not familiar with the movie. My initial reaction was also what you guessed -- what IS this? Later, I found a clip of this scene from the movie, and realized that VP tracked the movie very closely. VP's sound varies from video to video due to line-up changes. The group lost a member early in 2020 and a second member this year. They've brought in several guest singers, and one permanent member has been added.

Loving your reactions... I hope you feel better soon!. Very glad you moved onto Voiceplay... I feel like they're putting out the best stuff at the moment (though I love Home Free & Pentatonix as well...). In the last couple of years, Voiceplay has had some members pursue other things, so it's really allowed them to branch off and feature guests and get new talent that adds a really nice change for various songs. Here's some of my faves, which is definitely more biased towards the recent 2-3 years I've been listening to them: Voiceplay Medleys -=-=-=- Little Mermaid Medley (ft Rachel Potter), Moana Medley (ft Rachel Potter), Frozen 2 Medley (ft Adriana Arellano) Movie/Show One-Offs -=-=-=- The Phantom of the Opera (ft Rachel Potter), My Mother Told Me (ft Jose Rosario Jr of Rockapella)[Vikings][Assassins Creed], Go The Distance (ft EJ Cardona of Voctave)[Hercules] , What's This [Nightmare before Christmas] Voiceplay Normal Song Covers -=-=-=- We're Good (ft Adriana Arellano), Carry On Wayward Son (ft Omar Cardona), Warriors, Tennessee Whiskey, Queen in Five Minutes, Man in the Mirror (ft Deejay Young), Panic in Four Minutes On Geoff's channel, you could probably throw a dart and pick one. My fave ATM is Sixteen Toons mainly because I use it to practice hitting G#1 and slides and stuff he does. I look forward to seeing something else soon!

Welcome to the world of VoicePlay. They really are an amazing group, and there aren't any weak members of the group, even their featured guest performers bring some amazing power to the whole thing. Their beatboxer, Layne, is really quite amazing at his job, and Eli (the one in red, who's name is pronounced Elly not E-lie) is someone that you can put anywhere in an arrangement, and he'll do an outstanding job. Sadly, Earl (the one with the beard) and JNone (the one in the black jacket) have both left the group. Earl left over a year and a half ago, and JNone left a few months back to join the Navy choir. Thankfully, they've added a new permanent member with Cesar De La Rosa, and he's very much a well fitting member of the group. They've had some fun work with him, including If I Were a Rich Man/Girl and Hoist The Colors.
