This is probably why I never liked Vacation Bible School growing up. I didn't feel "challenged" enough to learn because it all seemed so "dumbed down". But, when your dad is the pastor, it's expected of you to be there every year. I don't care how many "fun activities" they planned or how many silly "crafts" they had us do, I couldn't wait for the week to be over with. I wanted to LEARN the Bible, not do silly crafts and games. I could do that at home.

You were highly intellectual 🤣. VBS is suitable for small children or new believing children/unbelievers. It would be boring like you said to church kids who were taught right.

So true! When I was a kid we didn't have entertainment, we simply studied the Bible. Now youth ministers are glorified babysitters.

And it's often times because at home, parents treat them that way

Wow, this speaks volumes. I used to think teens might be unable to handle deep doctrines. But, boy, oh boy, I was wrong. It hit me more when a 12-year-old girl in my church shared a teaching I did not imagine at her age. It blew me and I was in awe of God, how He worked and is working with these young ones.

We don't emphasize that teens learn doctrine because we don't believe it's important for adults to learn it either.

Yes, start early, speak to them in the language they can understand (age appropriate), and increase in intensity/difficulty level. From personal experience. God bless.

As a 60 year old I would offer that this is the problem with the church today. I was not taught the value of sound doctrine as a teenager and consequently have not taught it to my children and the students I’ve worked with in youth ministry. Shame on us. We don’t know what we don’t know. We have allowed ourselves to be deceived for too long and are witnessing 2 Timothy 4:3-4. It’s time to get back to the basics of sound doctrine with repentance, faith, and obedience. Pray for mercy and grace. Steady on!

Yes, even the adults in churches are not doctrine strong themselves. That’s why most churches in America are ineffective and worldly. Back to the Bible. We’ll have to give an account.

Love this. My 13 yr. old knows and understands 5 point Calvinism as an example. Not here to argue nor debate, simply to state that she understands it and knows that it's a man made system. On top of that my 9 yr. old understands the Godhead (Trinity) principle. Be blessed ya'll.
