Have you thought of putting a dust cyclone in between the machine and your dust collection? It’ll extend the life of your dust collection bag and all the big stuff will go in the cyclone bucket due to the walls and gravity.

Cut them! Seems to be a common mod on other collectors. The plastic impeller would be my only fear.

Have you tried using the NIOSH SLM app on your phone for testing how many dBs it produces?

I have the Harbor Freight dust collector that looks just like this one. I removed a very similar guard on my DC and it works just fine. I think that guard is there in case you vacuum up a screw, bolt, nut or something like that. Wood chips coming out of the planer or jointer won’t be an issue. BTW, what is the CFM for your dust collector?

CFM is listed as 525. I cut the cross pieces out and it works even better!! 👍👍 Thanks!

No brainer, cut the plastic

How far away from the machine do you think the DC could reach and still collect chips? Thinking about wall mount.

The hose I have is 10 feet, and that has worked great at full stretch. Collector works even better now that I cut out the cross pieces 👍👍. kzbin.infoCFSBfbFlPuA?feature=share

The crosses are there to add strength to the inlet tube. Cut' em out.
