I'm an old guy with a 2020 softail Slim and it's all the bike I need and want. The softail with a windshield, comfortable seat, sissy bar for luggage, cruise control and mount for cell phone, 107 cc M8, 5 gallon fuel tank, forward controls and you can travel anywhere in US you want to go. It cruises happily all day in 6th gear at 70mph at under 3000 rpm. For me on the highway, the windshield is a must for all day travel to keep the bugs out of my mouth and a driving rain off my face. This bike ticks all the boxes..

It's a cruiser, and it will go all the way around the world. People are generally ignorant when it comes to motorcycles. Wind is wind. If you took the fairing off, and wore a full leather perforated suit with a very good helmet the wind would not wear you out. If you like to cruise around one handed with normal clothes on then it doesnt matter what you wear, its going to beat your ass up. Once you get past 70mph a good aero helmet, protection is a must in my opinion. Ive toured on Softails, Heritage, Dyna, Buells, R1's, DR650, SV650, Versys, and my favorite back road tourer is a Sportster 1200 R .

This bike will do just fine on road trips. I have a bike just like yours and the same year. It has a stage 2. Here is the big thing! I just bought cruise control for the bike. That's definitely needed on longer trips unless your hands are young. I have a 23 Road Glide but I love my Street Bob also!

@@TheMotoJawn it's awesome, the power of the 114 is simplicity amazing. My little red Street Bob has a Bassani 2-1 exhaust, a cheap $400 air cleaner because those prices are absolutely ridiculous, I ran a Thundermax tuner because there is nothing better and I'll argue that with anyone but they $1000. My little red machine runs better because of wiegh to horsepower ratio, it's simply amazing. I spent alot money on my 23 Road Glide that was a 107. I put a 128 S&S big bore kit on it. It runs excellent, but my Street Bob kicks all sorts of ass!!

Hands down one of my favorite bikes, got mine in march with 14 miles, just rolled 2k. I had a 1000$ GC so I did the Harley 1/4 fairing and a few other fun upgrades. I wasn't a huge fan of the windshield blowing it right back in my face and someone introduced me to Denton performance and now I'm rocking a 12" and couldn't be any happier. in Texas a fairing is definitely needed! This bike is Rowdy and a absolute riot, Had a old timer tell me this is the most HD bike that they have come out with since the 80's🤣I rode from Lubbock to Dallas comfortably (5.5 hours)

For my personal tastes the street bob with a windshield is the perfect mixture of just enough wind to know you’re still riding a motorcycle but not so much on the head and chest you’re uncomfortable doing serious miles, mine is just the shield “del Rey” from Memphis shades but does more than enough for me to put in 400+ miles in a day on the hwy.

I've been thinking about maybe on of those smaller ones

I ride a 2020 Softail Standard with the “small” 107 ci engine. It is definitely faster than either any of the Sportsters (except maybe my 1964 XLCH) and my Dyna. The idea that a 114 ci, light weight motorcycle isn’t powerful enough for highway riding is ridiculous. Even fuel range with the smaller tank is manageable. If you need a radio and weather protection, drive a car.

Street Bob stock comes with no wind protection. That would be brutal at 70 - 80 MPH. I now have a 23 Lowrider and that comes with a joke of a fairing. I replaced that with a couple of Memphis Shades windshields but have yet to get their Road Warrior fairing since I live in Philly and keep off I95, SchuylKILL expressway, or AC expressway but they would be great if I ever feel suicidal. I heard I95 is the most dangerous road in the US and that is multiplied around Philly. I80 looked OK as far as traffic though. Unfortunately my job and lifestyle doesn't allow for long road trips but if I retire I would definitely consider those less congested highways. BTW cruise control is a must for long stretches. My LRS comes with cruise control but when I had a Street Bob I had the dealer add that and it is a game changer for the right wrist. All Harleys have vibration in the right controls but cruise control and good replacement grips can help alleviate that.

Luckily, fully loaded 2up and luggage 130miles is all shes got on fuel range running 85mph. A couple hours of that kinda riding, and I wanna stretch.

What to check how bigger suspension can be installed on a street bob. Want to increase the rear shock height by about 2-3 inches for more suspension travel and ride height.

I have a 2005 vrod that I take long trips on once in a while. People kept telling me, and still tell me that the vrod is no good for long distance riding. I seriously disagree. The nice fat tires, and the adjustable suspension make it perfect for the open road. Unless you have a bad back, she rides like a dream. That said, if my bike is great for the open road, yours is probably better.

My 1977BMW 100/7 would cruise at 100 mph at 5,000 rpm smooth as silk. Its all day cruising speed is 120 at 6,250 rpm. Redline is 7,500 . At redline it's as smooth as silk as it is at idle. My Sportster 883 can cruise at 70 mph but I prefer the back roads and only use the interstate highway when I have to. My URAL side car outfit goes 55 mph in the slow lane.

I’m sure super slab is no problem for most bikes now. People forget that back a hundred years ago there were folks trekking across the country on far less. Any bike can be set up to be comfy for the big road it’s just a matter of finding what works for us. Got my 20 yr old sporty set up to ride comfortably for 400 mile days which is enough for my old azz in one day. Lol.

Of course you can take the Street Bob on a Highway. And it can handle it effortlessly. Its like saying can the LRS, Fatboy or Softail Heritage handle the highway? They are all on the same Softail frame and you can add saddle bags, cruise control and fairings. All those that say it is just a bar hopper are just chatting BS. Because they just think getting a bigger more expensive bike can only handle highways.

@@TheMotoJawn I can appreciate that. The one thing I think is very important because I know engines. These 114's aren't water cooled. You can run them as hard as you want to. Doesn't make a difference to anyone. But when you are running an air cooled engine, I have no idea in the world why you would want to run such high engine temperatures just because you can make more power. Water cooled engines can run higher rpms like you want. Give the 114 a break . Torture engines when water is involved.
