The internet has been and always will be the proprietary technology that has been commissioned by the US DoD. The global standards and protocols in the internet has been set by the same US DoD and adopted by the IEEE and other world body standards. Hence, Huawei is allowed to swim in the web much like the rest of us. Hence, US DoD and intelligence communities (5 eyes) can see what is considered confidential traffic throughout the web and trace its source.

Yes and No. They can prevent some Huawei services from domestic markets, but entirely get rid of Huawei affiliated products would be nearly impossible. But people have to look at it this way...this entire industry is all intertwined with many different parts from many different companies involving several countries. Some companies have highly value patents instead of parts. All they do is design and legal. Some companies don't do anything else but just make the parts. Some just make the equipment that makes the parts. There's so many unique things about this field. Not one country, region or company has complete control over it. It's been that way for decades. There's companies that do business with Huawei that has parts in Ericsson and Nokia too. Overall, Huawei is just one big piece of this puzzle.

Anchorman is professional indeed, trying to ask most relevant questions on behalf of audience in the States and Europe. Three experts also are good and very diplomatic indeed to please the imagined audience in their minds but with their professional pride not to fake or distort. Only thing I want to add is that all events so far around Huawei mght have quite unexpected impact on shaping a new round of the polictically correct thinking and expressions. People want to have simple answers to sophisticated questions. It is human nature.

yep the US can they have the influence and capacity but of course this time at a cost as many telecommunication companies already had Huawei as a major part of their infra replacing it would be expensive and they will not do it just because the US said it

Interesting and knowledgeable guests but says it all really when the university professor will not speak on behalf of the institution that he works for. This is all about who advances and controls the next generation of Technology here. The Americans have been overtaken in some areas by the Chinese and they clearly feel very uncomfortable. I'd say the Chinese are geniuses if they come out of this unscathed and deserving of me buying a P50. Sadly, I think we are diverging and will be forced to choose sides.

You left out one crucial question: Will the country that is putting 5G in be financially able to build the required network infrastructure, and how will security in using the network be confirmed!

James, you've made a fundamentally important point which everyone on this forum is missing : you have fundamental rights in the US (or any democracy) which govts can't tread over. An independent judiciary makes sure of this. In China................................

So much propaganda out there. My gf have been using the Huawei P30 pro for 1.5 years now, no problems. I have noticed that when I talk about things near my Samsung S9+ I would suddenly get those advertisements on my browser. Not saying its Samsung's fault, I love the phone, just an observation.

John made a very good point, when everyone is scrutinising at Huawei security now, it will be more lucrative for someone to slip into other providers, the more scrutiny Huawei had the more secure it will be, if I want to build my 5G network I definitely will choose the one on the hotspot because I will save a lot of verification cost and having the world top cyber security scrutinise it's system on my behalf, for free.

If Huawei is a private company, then why would Ren Zhen Fei handover reign of the company to some unknown person? Such thing is never heard of. The other thing is that a lot of conversation had mistook manufacturing for innovation. USA is still leading tech innovations, it's just that America's high cost had made it not fit for manufacturing, but it could change in the near future.
