I've only played the games, but I low key got the idea that the image of witchers not having emotions was kinda just part of the superstition and prejudice they often experience. "They steal kids" "they work with witches" "they have no emotions." Just the kinda painting them as monsters thing.

5:10 the way ive always thought about the witcher emotion thing, is that people blame the trail and the mutations as a scapegoat for the horror of being a witcher, its not the magic that kills your emotions, its the brutal training, watching your friends die in agony, and a brutal and often thankless job that witcher will do for sometimes almost a century if they're "lucky". Though i do appreciate that it is somewhat left to interpretation.

It's funny that in the time that the demand for witchers has decreased, but Geralt asked a Child of Surprise anyway, this already tells a lot about his inner desire. I always believe that Trial of Grass does no such thing on him -- the stripping away of emotions, it's just that he's constantly been told that way, that idea then got ingrained into his personality which he couldn't shake off so easily

The books always stated that the Trial of the Grasses takes your humanity away, but not your emotions. The emotions part is assumed by the masses. Geralt constantly shows emotion in the novels, especially his love to Ciri and drive to save her from Vilgefortz. Doug is a legendary voice actor - surely the best of all time when it comes to computer games He was in Witcher 1 - and grunted his way through it, his lines taking only one weekend to record He was in Witcher 2 - this time, there was some serious dialogue and branching pathways - requiring 2 whole weeks of recording Then Witcher 3 - same actor as in Witcher 1 - 6 months of recording! This will surely never be repeated, Douglas is as legendary a computer-games actor as the character he plays Maybe, one day, Dandelion will compose a ballad about him called "The Golden Microphone": Oh hear, oh hear, My humble bard's tale O' a man - whose voice It never did fail etc.

My favorite quest in the Witcher 3 is the one where you help the Baron put his stillborn Daughter's spirit to rest. I don't enjoy it because it's fun, but because of how beautifully written and acted it is. It horrified me, and made me weep. It fleshed out the character of the Baron in such an incredible way. He was such a monster, yet my heart broke for him as the guilt of his monstrous acts destroyed him. In the end he redeemed himself and honored the child his destructive choices killed.
