Yeah I started with 6inch no-display, my hand hurted a lot and struggled drawing and ctrl+z was my best friend. Then after making good bucks from that small tablet I invested in 13inch cintiq. My hands were blessed. My friendship with ctrl+z starting to loose. My hands were happy. But I don't know why I was not enjoying drawing in 13inch display. Maybe the area is limiting to my big arcing hands. So I did some research and bought 24inch huion pro. And the color and the big biggy area expanded my creativity and all my limitation of limited canvas goes away. Now I love drawing in tablets as I use to love to on paper and pen with a big area to draw. The good thing about big area for drawing is you can use your whole arm muscle to draw arc and thus circles and arcs are smooth and requires less trials. And thats the story of me breaking my friendship with ctrl-z. PS. Ctrl-z is still my friend but not the best. We encounter ourselves once in a while now.

Huion knows their market when they make a cheap tablet not for drawing, but for playing the osu rhythm game. The size might be small but that's actually something of an advantage in osu, if two prompts are on opposite edges of the screen you're going to physically move the cursor there faster than if the tablet were bigger. The fact that it doubles as a decent drawing tablet is just aces. As a tech enthusiast, any piece of hardware that solves a bunch of problems very well is impressive engineering feat.

This reminds me of a video I saw on youtube about how a creative shouldn't let tools be the barrier of wanting to create. In many cases, saying I'll draw/film/animate once I've got that ipad/camera/fancy computer is something you tell yourself as a form of procrastination and *a fear of failure*. If you want to draw, sketch stuff in a notebook. If you want to do filmmaking, use your smartphone camera. And if you want to digital art, don't wait for a fancy iPad Pro, and get started on whatever tablet you can get your hands on. Having a tablet doesn't make you an artist, using it to make the stuff you want makes you an artist. EDIT: I remember the name now! It was "The Toolbox Fallacy".

Well, as long as there is basic feature like pressure sensitivity and acceptable line quality, pro level drawing is always possible. But tool still matters. A bigger surface area or a better pen will give you more efficient workflow, less redo and so on. At the end of the day, I think if you are going to take art seriously, going with a bit more expensive and larger option is better. I bought this tablet a bit more than a year ago because I needed something portable in moments where I could not bring a larger tablet. I was even able to put some Velcro to stick it to the right side of my laptop touchpad and worked perfectly fine. The only downside is that I started to develop pain in my wrist over time, but that's just me, I'm a tall person/big hands, so the tablet is a bit too small for my preference if I'm going to be working for prolonged hours, but for quick stuff and portability, it has nothing to envy from other tablets. Pen pressure works perfectly fine, and it uses the same Huion driver interface options than the rest. I've not being able to figure out how to make the tablet retain the orientation every time I turn on the computer, since I have to rotate it 180 degrees, so the cable doesn't overlap the touchpad. I think it has to do something with administrator permissions on Windows OS, since that's another thing I have to turn on every time I'm going to use the computer. Great video by the way :)

I'm currently thinking to buy a graphic tablet and start drawing digital. This video will be a good guide to how much I should pay for my first graphic tablet. I won't buy this cheap one, but a sub-50 dollars tablet will do the jobs for me. Thank you.

I use the XP Pen Star, and I feel like I can get more precise lines and detail overall. What I do need though is the bigger tablet with side hotkeys, in my opinion for larger paintings (artwork) the larger area allows you to see the bigger picture without using the zoom as much
@Parabueto3 жыл бұрын
I bought an only slightly bigger Huion for around £30 as my first tablet. I've never used one before and not sure how much I'm going to use it. If it turns out it's the best thing since sliced bread and I really want a bigger, better tablet in the future it's at a price point where I wouldn't feel terrible upgrading (It's like five beers at the pub).

I’m mixed on using huion tablets because I had their 580 and their 1080. Both had a pen issue where they would read faint pressure in the hover zone. The 580 came with it and the 1080 had it when the pens rolled off the table.

My first tablet was a huion HD420, the one with the 3 express keys. Cost me about $15 (australian) to get but it gave me my first taste of drawing, the drawings were very bad coz i only really just started drawing. Then the next year I got my intuos small in pistachio green for my birthday and it was a lot less strain on my hand. I have since upgraded to a huion kamvas pro 12 and a Huion HS611 because they're overall just more comfortable to use due to their form factors. Will still go back to my Wacom but the HD420 is personally too small for me. Great to get if you want to dabble and try digital art out, but long term, your wrist will be thankful for something a little bigger.

I remember Apple had a digital pad for the G2. It came in matching colors and was how I got into digital art. Photoshop was relatively new and was not like today where it’s cloud based. Just to give a perspective, zip disc was a thing… a very popular thing. But I have never used a all in one drawing tablet besides the iPhone or iPad.

I started with the Huion 420; I *loved* that thing. It was so much better than drawing with my stupid laptops mousepad thing (is that what it’s called?). I just got my first pen display, and I just want people to know,, the 420 is ENTIRELY possible to start with . I see a lot of people saying it “discourages” from drawing, but it made my life so much easier. It’s great for kids who might not have a lot of money to buy a 400 dollar tablet. Wouldn’t recommend using it for at MOST more than a year, bc it can create wrist problems, but it’s an a-okay starting point.

Great comment - thanks. I'm looking at the 6" by 4" version called the HS64. It's about twice as large, so about as big as A5 in portrait. As a starter, I'm keen to have something that will fit on my desk that could lead to new ways of doing things. Your comment was valuable. Not sure what to sketch yet, but mostly it's DIY designs or simple maps and lists.

On the topic of screen and graphic tablets. I've gotten an ipad recently on top of my graphics tablet. switching between the two of them depending on my mood I find use cases that is optimal on one device over the other. sketching, calligraphy, concept work is better for me in a graphic tablet. while line work and shading is a lot better for the ipad.

I mean, I get what this is saying, but good tools are necessary, it very much does make difference, it speeds up your drawing process and makes it easier to draw in higher quality, I mean, which is better, a wooden sword or a sword made of steel.

I invested in Huion's Kamvas 16 2021. I have not yet done a bunch of work on it but really like the size, it is a happy medium between 13" (I always thought my macbook screen was a bit small) and a 22-24" screen which can be quite large if you don't have a bunch of desk space. I also have a 9.7" ipad which is good but doesn't have the power for multilayered high res work.

Even though tablets really make life easier, it shouldn't be something beginners think they NEED to have. I've been using simple mice for over 15 years and never had a problem illustrating. At a studio I worked there were this amazing digital artists using that Apple magic mouse that gives everybody carpal tunnel etc. and still got incredible results. So in the end, as any tool, it's just a tool! Great video!

I think this is where clip studio would be beneficial over photoshop as it has excellent vector layers which don't need accuracy, you draw the lines in and then adjust to fit. I feel this little tablet would pair well with that program where the limited tablet surface wouldn't be much of a hindrance. I recall what a pain my little Wacom intuos was over 20 years ago with its small surface area.

back in quarantine my very first dive into digital art was a huion 420, it's pretty decent, although the bad mini usb and the battery on the stylus making it heavy, although I probably played more osu than I should be practicing, it was ok to get started? The tablet was actually shorter than my phone! Then I managed to upgrade to a gaomon s620 and then a xp pen deco L the convenience of size, pen pressure and tilt is amazing, but for the most part you are the main factor, get something your budget allows and you are comfortable with!

i've tried drawing on a drawing tablet like this (H640P) and i just cant seem to get my brain to associate the movement of my hand with the dot on the screen or the distance between the pen and tablet. i dont think theres an easy fix other than have the tablet close to a similarly sized screen. either way i gave up after a few weeks, props to those who can pull it off.
@SmallSpoonBrigade3 жыл бұрын
That's a common problem. I had the same issue when I learned to touch type. I couldn't even see the keys that my fingers were on, but I wanted to look down badly. Ultimately, I don't think there's a way around it other than powering through it or switching to a tablet with a screen. I'm thinking that keeping the tablet where I can't see it and drawing simple figures for short bursts would probably do it. So would using it instead of a mouse.

I think my dad gave me an Asus Fonepad when I was 4-6 years old. I loved to draw on that. I had already forgot about it and found it while I was cleaning my room. I honestly dont understand how that thing still works. It is so old. The app I used to draw on 🖐. No, I dont understand how I even drew on that. Well atleast it dragged me back to digital art so now I'm looking to buy a new tablet or iPad. Im really glad I found it tho, makes mr nostalgic.

I'm drawing for like 17 years digitally and my tablet is a One by Wacom I bought at 39$. A screen one is USELESS, all it will do is speedup the process but I honestly I don't like the feeling of drawing on a glass and there's like that lag I don't like that I never get on a screenless tablet. You can find an old Bamboo for 19$ second hand.

It's small because it's for the OSU game. It's a rhythm game. Smaller areas mean to can hit the targets faster with less extra movement.

I've seen several of these comments too and it's kinda confusing to me. It's like saying this car is ONLY for going to work. You can't use this car for going to the store. It's a car. it can do both. If you look at the amazon page for this list a whole bunch of things it can be used for. Signing documents playing OSU, using it with apps like Illustrator or Photoshop. Huion doesn't really care what it's used for as long as people buy it.
@Daaell3 жыл бұрын
@@thebradcolbow If we go with the car analogy, these tablets are like quadricycle. It looks like a car, you don't need a license to drive it, does what a car can do, but you have to have a good reason to get one. But it just can't go as fast as a car, not as big and spacious as a regular car, but this is what you want, they're great.

I'm a little bit late for this video, but I'm here to point out that I've done decent art (and I've seen people make masterpieces) in a 3DS, which I believe has an even smaller screen. Granted, it has a _screen,_ so that makes things noticeably easier, but still, the size is really only a problem if you're not experienced. There's a cheap program called "Colors" for the 3DS that's designed for drawing. It's a little bit on the limited side (only a few layers available, no pressure control and it doesn't even have a "fill" tool) but it does the job. There's a new version coming up for the Nintendo Switch, and surely that one will have some new features. Hell, I've seen people do amazing works of art without this software, so I'd say with practice the size will stop being an issue.

Can you do a video on a good mid-priced drawing tablet? (I am looking to spend about $500-$600) I bought a cheap screenless wacom tablet and hate it. I hated it so much I gave up on digital art and animation. I am looking for one with a screen so I can know exactly where I am drawing. My goal is to make my art and animations faster and better than using a mouse.
