I believe Andy has the potential to leave a sizeable impact on skateboarding by the time he’s done with it. For lots of reasons but the one I wanna highlight here is that wearing of a helmet. I love that he unabashedly has always worn it. I think he recognizes that people will have that initial reaction to him wearing it, and that once people see him skate they will have second thoughts about their judgment. I think he’s proving a point. One that I think is a positive one for future generations of skateboarders. A solid example that Andy Anderson. ✊

I have definitely noticed an influx of skaters wearing helmets and pads within the past few years. I’ll say that watching Andy made me realize that I don’t care how I look and that I’m way more confident and a better skater when fully padded

Skating the bowl today and a dude slammed straight to his head in the deep end. Knocked out for a solid two minutes and left in an ambulance . He came to so confused and one of his eyes was crossed. He was wearing a helmet. No doubt he’d be paralyzed or dead if he wasn’t. It really drove home, for me, why helmets are important and looking cool isn’t worth it especially on transition.

No one is gonna wear a helmet in a street part , until they make a helmet that basically is the same size as a hat. Skiing and snowboarding have accomplished making helmets a normal part of freestyle. It doesn't have to be the most protective, high impact thing in the world. It just has to be better than nothing. If we're being honest Andy's helmet does look goofy as hell but it's part of his style.

I think the beauty of all the footage of Andy is it truly shows how talented of a skater he is. You see him on the daily how he skates so well all the time compared to someone that you only see in a video part once every 3 years where every trick is perfected and tried dozens of times. Andy skates how most casual spectators think that pros skate, He lands most tricks and has ultimate control over his ability to just shred nonstop in any situation.

Anderson always has a positive vibe and a unique style that's a compendium of different eras and disciplines. I love his appreciation for pre-90's skating. Btw, it really speaks badly of the skateboarding world that parts of it have a problem with him wearing a helmet. Only a selfish, juvenile moron would be upset by someone wanting to protect themselves at no cost to others. It just means he's doing the wise thing and hopefully setting a good example for kids coming up. And it's a reminder of how hypocritical the skating world can be, talking about individuality and freedom and personal expression while also being super conformist and judgmental.

As a BMX rider and mountain biker. I have had a lot more interest in skateboarding videos because of Andy Anderson. I first saw him at Braille awhile back. Then I got hooked on what Braille was doing. Then I found out about Dan because of Andy. So there are 3 channels I now watch regularly because of Andy. I am on a trip to Boston and I can't bring my bike. So I dusted off my old Element board from the early 2000s and tossed it into my luggage. I will never be a dedicated and good skateboarder, especially at my age. But I absolutely am totally stoked on it right now and Andy can get credit for that.

Everyone benefits from "too much Andy". 1) Andy gets more time on viewers screens, helping his career and business ventures without having to build up his own channels. 2) Channels get more viewers helping their audiences grow. 3) Viewers get more skating content to watch from &&, if you're not a fan it's easy to watch something else. 4) Skating gets bigger as a whole and skaters themselves grow, e.g. Andy being a jack of all trades means street skaters get exposed to freestyle, transition skaters exposed to street and so on... It's win win.

There's no doubt many of the "top" pros have CTE already from the gnarly slams and hits to the head they've had. Not skateboarding, but closely related bmx pro Dave Mirra was posthumously diagnosed with CTE after he committed suicide. As some of these pros that routinely like to throw themselves off mega shit slam, they're likely to exhibit symptoms as they age. Chris Cole already mentioned some memory loss in some interview and he definitely got a big concussion and admitted to it to Phelps in the post contest interview in the back to the berg video on Thrasher's KZbin.

The answer is "No, there can't be too much Andy Anderson." Skaters worried about their image and "frowning upon" fellow skaters. Call it what it is, petty, juvenile gatekeeping. People in the community have short memories. Young Tony Hawk was definitely NOT cool in the "skater community". He was categorically shat upon by the "cool skaters". Now they are all gone or are drug-fucked homelss people and Tony is one of the most recognised and respected individuals (not just athletes or skaters) in the world.

Meh 2 issues I have with some comments here. First off its a rumor that youonly need a helmet in Transition. First time I fell on my head was ollieing from flat onto a small.manny pad, slipping Out and falling backwards. Secondly: "looking cool isnt worth it". Ask yourselves where that idea comes from, that you wouldnt look cool wearing a helmet. Back when I was a kid we actually thought that people wearing helmets was a sign of them profficient at the Sport, whether it was Mountainbiking, skating or whatever. Race drivers wear helmets, so we thought they were Like pro's or posers wanting to look Like pro's. In any case helmets we're cool af and the idea that theyre Not is just as arbitrary. Fact is they save your life, thats really cool.

2:10 I don't think it's ever warranted by true skateboarding culture. To me and many friends, skateboarding was a way to be free from fads or hypes and a way to be creative and free about clothes, thoughts and opinions. As long as there was love for being on our boards equally, there was equal respect and no need to conform. It makes me feel kinda sad how even some of the biggest voices in skateboarding today are drawn so much to marketing and more money, but I guess that is skateboarding today. At least some people like Andy Anderson still embrace the feeling of "it's nice to be different.". And I know most skateboarders are still open to this.

one example of the skate industry being cancer is the resistance to using protective gear. Skaters started off wearing pads but it was industry pressure that stopped them. If pro skaters were employees rather than contractors, they'd be wearing full pads and helmet in every video, but since it doesn't cost the companies anything when a skater gets injured, they frown on the use of protective gear.
