Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could kzbin.infoUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.

DC reels for the most part take the thumb education out of the equation. You can achieve the reels max distance with little to no drama.....but some reels can cast further but you gotta go way down in the brakes and know when to thumb (but you're teetering on the edge of blowing up....DC's manage that "edge" and will throw a curl of line up over the frame and still not over run....(You can cast further with some dc reels if you cast with the line exiting the top of the frame not thhe levelwind lol ) They're also very fun....just don't stick them next to a big magnet......
@raktv1735 жыл бұрын
Tackle Advisors I have some DC reels and the casting distance is what I don’t like about them. My no DC reels seem to cast much further with no issues. However, just the sound makes me want to fish with the DC LoL
@Swimbait_fishing5 жыл бұрын
If you want max distance with a reel you are gonna have to come off the breaks, DC or not. I have several dc reels and of course they cast farther with a educated thumb, with the possibility of blowing up
@plfishing50765 жыл бұрын
I have an older chronarch 201e6 I fish with 1 brake on and spool tension set to where the spool doesn’t move side to side and I can get amazing casting distance with something as light as a senko. I think the only reason I can successfully cast with that low of settings is becoming good with my surface iron reels 🤣
@TackleAdvisors5 жыл бұрын
@@plfishing5076 here's a somewhat useless yet interesting piece of information......Throwing z man senkos (because they hold up better casting on a grass field) The old white or red brake shoe antares out performed every other flagship..Steez sv tw, mgxtreme..but almost 20 feet.....but placed second or third when using other types of baits.....(20 casts each measured properly) With a tranx 400 and 3oz tady's I can hit 150 yards consistantly. I was assisting in the guide layouts with the Shimano Tiralejo surf rods and with taped on guides lobbed the same jig 140 yards.....I wanted to shoot for 200 (again measured casting field) but the tape didn't hold and blew off the guides......I posted the vid a few years ago but shimano asked I take it down. LOL

Before I say anything, I been subscribed to Jon b channel since he was jojobarz33 with only few thousand subs, which is a lot still compared to how many subs he has now which is just insane and amazing. I got into digital chip reels when I started watching Jon videos, back when I started high school in 2013. I always wanted one because of the sound and technology that goes into these reels. I finally got my first DC reel which was a this 2018 left hand Shimano Antares MD DC (Monster Drive Digital Chip) as gift to myself when I got back from basic training. Yeah I love left hand baitcasters. I had my reel for about a year now, it a beast is amazing. I love it so much but would never probably get another one since they are expensive af. Something about this reel is different and fabulous. Biggest bass I caught on this reel was a 8 and a quarter largemouth. XB is extreme bait (large baits), F is fluorocarbon, NM is nylon-monofilament line, and P is braided line. If you have the money get it. I understand it expensive. I started out with Shakespeare rods okay I know. But yeah it awesome if you want a DC reel. I would recommend. Now that I have this deployment coming up soon, for a year in two months, I going to miss fishing. Keep up the great work Jon. KFNS

I wouldn't get it! Mainly because it would look really stupid on my fly rod!!! But here's a question Jon.... (from one that doesn't use those reels) Why a you using a right-handed reel when it seems like you have to change hand after every cast???
@sebastianstan52955 жыл бұрын
GoneFishingStories most people do it like that. Typically spinning reels are lefty and baitcasters are right handed, regardless of if the person fishing the reels is left or right handed
@DavidFluegge5 жыл бұрын
Not sure if I can explain, I do the same thing. My right is dominant in fishing, I feel better casting over my right shoulder. My right hand controls the rod from the top and the line as it's going - but then I switch because my dominant fishing hand wants to reel. I say dominant because I am left handed but throw right handed, bat left, golf right. Not sure that helps, but I always figured that is how everyone that fishes with a right handed reel does it.
@DavidFluegge5 жыл бұрын
Since I also fly fish, do you fish with a right handed reel? I use my right as my power hand but then when I land one and get it on the reel (not just stripping), I use my right to reel it in - do you not?
@snookin56175 жыл бұрын
GoneFishingStories i use a lefty baitcaster for that reason exactly (and that i feel confident with my right arm holding the rod)
@GoneFishingStories5 жыл бұрын
@@snookin5617 Yes.. When i rarely use a reel its a spinning reel.... And there the handle is on the left beacuse most people cast over their right shoulder with the right hand being the strong one... Thats why this seems really odd to me :)

It wasn’t $700 though. I think it was just under $200. Sadly I don’t get out fishing much anymore and I’m back in WV so it’s back to trout. Poor gear is collecting dust in the garage.

Is it any better than the Shimano curado dc? I feel like the tech in them isn't to much different. Or maybe not, I could be wrong

Don't change the brakes on your car just buy this. I will stop anything. And it cost more than a brake job

If they pull water, go towards the fronts of the creeks. If it’s filling up, start towards the middle and move back

Which one of the Googan squad is out of Dallas area? I will be traveling there and able to fish the 28th and 29th of June. I was wondering what ponds or lake you could recommend? No boat, shore fishing. Thanks in advance

700 bucks! I think the bass won’t bite just because they’re laughing at you for spending that much for a bass reel! 😜

2:27 a fish literally followed that craw all the way to the surface, blew up on it, and missed it and Jon didn’t even realize it.

Can you skip your baits with that reel? will that break system allow it ?

😜 NOPE! I fish with some nice equipment but to be honest you can actually catch the same amount of fish with cheap fishing equipment... anyone else agree?
@fireturtle75305 жыл бұрын
Depends on the situation. You'll catch just as many dinks, but using a cheap rod isn't going to amount to equal hook ups on quality fish. Skill plays a lot in that too more than anything though.
