Had a chance to stop out at eurocycle in Las Vegas in early December when I was visiting the west coast. Not one salesman in the new showroom even looked up at the computer to ask if me or the other two people I came with needed help or anything at all. Not one word was spoken to us! Would not buy from a dealership network like that. Only redeeming part was that the one guy relegated to the used showroom was absolutely awesome! Just happy to talk about what they had and cool stuff that they’ve had previously. I’d stay cautious of euro cycle when buying new. Customer service seems to be down to “get them a bike and get them out”

BMW has been making bikes before they made cars. They've been making bikes longer than anyone with the exception of Harley and Indian and look at those brands now lol I've ridden countless other brands and bikes, and BMW still blows most of the competition away in my opinion. RnineT especially, I've been in love with that bike since 2014, amazing machine. They get it.

The Japanese still do quality control, reliability, cost of maintenance, and price-to-performance better in my opinion. How has your experience been with reliability and repairs? Bad/expensive? Not trying to talk bad about your bike, but I want your honest opinion.
@ConorHildebrandt
@ConorHildebrandt 2 жыл бұрын
@@cesartapia610 oh no for sure, 100% agree. Even in the car world, no one does reliability better than the Japanese. But for all around "the best", I find BMW stands alone. And I mean like, say an H2 vs M1000RR (I've ridden both). Sure, H2 is faster in a straight line, but that's about it. The RR is a precision made weapon with high quality finishes and attention to detail. Where as the H2 looks and feels like it was bought at Walmart haha ANYWAY, I digress. I've had 2 BMW's and have 2 close friends who I ride with frequently one also has BMW's, the other has Ducati's. My two BMW's (2014 BMW F800R, bought in 2015, traded for my current bike in 2020) was the most reliable and rock solid bike ever. Put about 30,000 kms on it in the 5 years I had it, and only ever had to do regular oil, and scheduled service at 10,000 and 20,000kms. Each of which costing about 700 CAD. My current bike, 2015 BMW S1000R, bought used July 2020, with 14,000kms, has also been mega mega rock solid. Only have had to do oil and the 20,000km service which again was about 700 CAD. I've put about 7,000kms on it now, I'm obsessed with it. And this is a 7 year old super naked! And can still smoke 98& of anything on 2 or 4 wheels haha Buddy who has also had BMW's has more or less had the exact same experience I have. No problems at all. He also has a 2015 S1000R and an RnineT. Other friend with the Ducati. He has a 999 and a 848 Streetfighter, he's lucky to put 2,000kms a season on them cuz they're always breaking down haha 10-15 years ago, I would say BMW's aren't great, but the last 7-8 years, they have gotten SO, good. Can't recommend them enough.

The original GS in that color scheme was a favorite of wasps. You’d stop at a light, the wasps would gather at the yellow stripes. The light would change. You’d edge forward and the wasps would end up in your lap. Always entertaining.

The roadster BMWs have always been great bikes. The R1250R is a great all purpose street bike. It has all of the power you really need and will do about anything you want it to do. The BMW Rs that are not tourers or GSs have always been one of the better kept secrets in motorcycling. This bike falls right in line with that.

I have a r1250r. Technically one of the best bikes I ever had. Just lacks a bit of soul, kinda liked my Kawa z900rs better for the way it looked but this Bmw is really something special too. Hope you can do a review of one. Almost everything that found it a bit boring or wasnt that interested, changed their minds after riding one. So did I. Still dont find it a beautiful bike but it just does everything so well it is really a secret in the bmw lineup.

@@johnkluge3421 I had a '96 BMW R1100RS. Nice enough bike, but very top heavy and hard to steer in city traffic. Excellent fairing and comfort for freeway rides though; I really appreciated having that after upgrading from a small naked bike. I don't trust BMW reliability though, it's got to be one of the worst in the business. Complicated engine, dry clutch (not good for dense traffic), tons of electrical gremlins, and the earlier ones used to eat transmissions (splines needed better lubing from the factory), weak charging system. Super expensive to repair when something goes wrong. I liked it, but BMW isn't up to Japanese standards of quality control. I'd rather be riding than wrenching, and self service/repair on Japanese bikes is just so much more user friendly. They're better for my budget, but even if I were rich, I wouldn't want to have to spend so much more money on an already expensive vehicle. Just my two cents.

@@cesartapia610 I find my R to be very light and easy in traffic. And you just get used to the clutch. Since buying it new and putting right at 45,000 miles on it, a lot of that commenting in heavy traffic, I have replaced the starter, alternator, and the command unit on the left handle bar. That is pretty good reliability for that much use. I have ridden the hell out of that bike and it has never let me down.

Just saying, the BMW boxer engine has a longtitudinal crankshaft (as opposed to a transverse crank of a parallel twin) and the rotation experienced on startup is due to the reaction (Newtonian physics) of the spinning crank and flywheel. Happens with single engined aircraft too. The engine is smooth because the pistons move in opposite directions and do a good job of cancelling primary imbalance.
@spencerknutsen464
@spencerknutsen464 11 ай бұрын
this, own a boxer, but its a car not a bike (vw beetle) and it has a similar jerking motion on startup, but very smooth once running. A longitudinal crankshaft on a vtwin like a motto guzzi or a honda cx should have the same phenomenon.

I had one in 2018 and loved it, suspensions and oil consumption was the weak point (maybe they've improved since), the rest of the bike was really a blast to ride and sounded amazing even with stock pipe. Loads of torque from the get go.

I'd like to clear up this BMW thing. The demographic that buys these bikes are usually midlife. We have finally been able to purchase a bike after having children, paying for college and working our asses off in order to pay the bills. We have bad backs and are unable to lean forward in order to ride a "cool" bike. I tested numerous bikes and settled with the GS due to the comfortable riding position and obvious ease of operation. Am I going to ride it off-road, No. Am I going to ride it on a long term "adventure", No. I ride it to work and it's the best part of my day. I enjoy your channel, and I find your perspective on BMW interesting. You've got to admit, they're well-built and fun to ride. See you on the road! PS, I hate Starbucks!

Much like the r18, it's not perfect, but it's FULL of character and charm. I'd solidly recommend you get an older air cooled boxer model from the 80s or 90s and rip around with that, compare it to the urban GS while you have it in the shop etc, if you really want to know what a beemer should feel like. Might be a whole new goldmine of hilarious content to explore for multiple bikes.

I used to PURPOSELY use my cylinder heads to pivot on, for tight corners. The shaft drive, especially on the "air heads" caused something called "shaft reaction" which meant you absolutely had to be on the throttle for corners. If you came off the throttle in the middle of the corners, it would lift the rear wheel so the traction would drop. Timing it right, you could get a really sharp, low speed turn by tossing the weight onto the heads, killing the throttle, shift the weight then throttle it again for a 90 degree rotation in the parking lot! Find yourself an "old school" BMW rider who has fun, and let them show you what they can do. Oh, and the even the old bikes had gentle rev limiters, so I was taught to drive it at redline minus 500 rpm.

That is a really pretty bike. BMW succeeded at the looks, but I am a spec sheet loving speed demon so it isn’t in my taste. Looking at it I guessed about 135hp and $12,000 so I’m guessing I look at the big 4 to much. That said I would definitely get some tickets for a giveaway if you fall in love with it and decide to buy. Lol

With the hookup you have at EuroCycles, it'd be cool to see more BMW reviews. I like the RnineT, but to see the new R1250R or have Spike do the R 18 B would also be neat. Not to even mention the S1000RR. Or even a joke vid like the Ural.

I was able to ride the R18 during a factory demo this summer. It really was a beast. It pulls like no one's business with all that torque....not a bad thing at all! It was a blast but I'll stick to my R 72 and 2000 bikes.

I love the look of the Urban G/S and really want one, but I'm torn between a Ducati Desert Sled and this, the Desert Sled just seems better equipped as a Scrambler and has more character according to some, but the Urban G/S looks better and probably drives better on road. If it came down to cost, Ducati, but if I had free choice, I'd really need to ride both to decide.

I have the raw beast BMW R nine T scrambler, 2017 model, and it oozes character! unfortunately the later models are "tarted" up too much, with flashy paint schemes, and other unnecessary features, but the earlier models are very much a proper bike! I too love my R Nine T beast, what a perfect ride for twisty lanes!

Cons of the R90 Urban GS are: non adjustable forks, no RPM, no Fuel indicator and you really don't want to take it off-road other than that its an engineering masterpiece.

I believe that is from Euro5 emission bullshit, and not to do with the bike. Lots of cars have this also. Better check if it is legal before doing that kind of stuff to a bike. Or you can get problems.

Some notes, my KTM 690R and my BMW RNineT both have a hydraulic clutch and I do prefer the feel, you hardly have to pull on the lever. I wish that the RNineT had a quickshifter/auto-blipper. My RNineT has a very good sounding factory exhaust and I have never contemplated changing it. A tachometer is a very expensive option. For that matter, I wish the the 690R had a tachometer too. I have the opposite experience with mine, first gear is easy to find and neutral is a near mystery, same thing on my S1000RR. If fact I could say the same thing about the KTM, which can be quite a challenge to find neutral with. Heated grips are worth every penny. Here in MI, I've used heated grips even in summer months and I'll be adding them to the KTM. I would take the RNineT over a Harley any day of the week. I consider my RNineT to be my cruiser bike.
