@kaitlyn__L2 жыл бұрын
@@captainjimo it’s usually the same thing. Sometimes it’s ethanol instead which is also fine. Rarely it’s methanol which is stronger but should also be fine if you use less. They will usually list what the actual chemicals are somewhere on the bottle.

@@kaitlyn__L thanks for the answer. I was starting to wonder if my bottles of ethanol could have been a wrong type of cleaner to use on electronics
@kaitlyn__L2 жыл бұрын
@@Shiroi0moi the only thing to be wary of is isopropyl makes clear acrylic cloudy if it’s left to evaporate on it; not sure if ethanol is the same or not. But most computer equipment is made of ABS or PBT. Even the rarer items like Apple’s use of polycarbonate in the 00s is fine. It’s just acrylic (in my experience anyway) which gets discoloured due to some molecular reason. The only time I’ve seen it come up in restoration videos is a tape deck with a rare-ish acrylic window, which got a cloudy patch on it after isopropyl was applied. If you’re ever unsure as to a material, or its response to your alcohol of choice, you can do a little test spot on the device - inside a battery compartment or on a back corner is usually good.

7:17 Yes, but usually I do that to ensure that the chip won't degrade faster. It's nice to have both of them running cool as opposed to just one. Certain manufacturers didn't use paste on chipsets; IBM did not cool the chipset in pretty much every T4x series ThinkPad, which was a contributing factor to premature failure.

Just my 2 cents, if you see white corrosion, due to water it is almost always a base. Actually almost all of the time on electronics, when you see corrosion, it will be due to base and not acid - even the batteries contain basic solution. So in order to remove it, put some white vinegar on it, then clean it using an ionised water (or even tap water) and then put the PCB in oven at 90 deg. C for 30 min. For extra precaution you can later use IPA, but in my opinion there are much better things (chemistry wise) to IPA. I use IPA only for cleaning lens and old thermal paste - and I do SMD board repair daily.

I bought a Dell laptop from a flea market for 110 euro's, the battery is like new and it included a fast charger as well! I was stunned by the low price, it's a 3th gen intel i5, but when i got home and open up the laptop for upgrading the hard disk and the ram, and i saw that it suffered from liquid damage, so i cleaned all the corossion out of it, there was some damage, but all by all it worked perfectly fine, until . . . The screen cr4pped out, as it turns out, the display also was faulty, the backlight works and you can still see stuff if you put pressure on the lcd itself, but the panel is unuseable like that, so i have to buy a new panel, but this laptop is worth it, there is 16gb in there and a 256gb ssd!

this "trash" laptop is literally better than my laptop in lot of ways(dell latitude 5480, i5-6200U version). really disgusted what people just throw away nowdays. thank you for not letting it go landfill.

I don't know if I want to 😥or 🤬 the fact that this machine almost became e-waste. Appreciate the work you did to help restore it.

You can actually see in the about screen where it says "Touch support with 10 touch points" :P

You had better luck than me. I rescued a HP i5 laptop at an estate sale. Hard drive was pulled and so was the battery. Thing was barbarically ripped apart. I ordered some parts for it to try and put it back together but the hard drive connector was ripped from the motherboard. Still holding on to it. I used a usb stick and launched chrome OS on it. Touch screen and all works.

Why chrome OS, windows is better in every way. That was just my opinion, don't take it to offense. I rescued a HP dc5700 business computer from 2007 it was sitting behind my grandma's tv and the computer was abandoned and it used to ran windows xp professional. It had a Pentium 4 processor with HT technology and I installed windows because it has a greater software library and more open. With windows 10 you can theoretically use a computer from 2004.

@@lathesangiriharan2295 I had Chrome OS installed on a bootable USB stick handy and used it just to test all the other functions of the computer.
